  1. I can't think that a 50% return on JUCOs even suiting up for a game is worth the effort. I am sure the staff spent many man hours on both Morris and Alexander. Would we not have been better served getting 4 year players who are able to cut it acedemically? I can a pass on Morris, but the same thing happening the following year is another thing altogether. I just don't see ow this can be acceptable.
  2. Twice in two years we have ben burned by Juco transfers. It is obvious this is not the way this program can go in terms of recruiting players. Counting on kids to get nessacary trnsfer credits in the summer is a total crapshoot. The first experience with Morris should have taught Soderberg to not rely on these guys coming to SLU. There is just too small a number of JUCO kids who have the wherewithal to get credits to transfer to SLU. Now we are down a player again. Soderberg has been an impresive floor coach but he has a ways to go on recruitment of kids.
  3. LaSalle is small potatoes. This may be a blessing in disguise as instead of having to weed out some of the lesser teams in the conference many of them are imploding on themselves. Suffice it to say if the lower ranking members of the A-10 whoever they may be will not be associated with SLU 5 years from now.
  4. A poster on another board, who I believe also frequents here occasionally, said he saw Reggie being carted off the floor at West Pine yesterday. Is this true? Has anyone heard any news?
  5. I was at the Lowes in Florissant yesterday and saw a kid about 7 or 8 with a Reggie Bryant SLU jersey. I was pretty shocked, I thought it was an old Laker jersey at first but it had St. Louis on the front. I would have asked the kid where he got it but his parents seemed a little out of sorts as I was following them around for a few minutes trying to get a look at it.
  6. SMS is off this year. I think we play SIU.
  7. I would hope he dominates Gardner and Conley. He has several inches and 50 pounds on both of them.
  8. Starters PG - Dwayne Polk SG - Reggie Bryant WG - Darren Clarke F - Izik Ohanon C - Tom Frericks Polk will be the starter on day one. Barring injury he will start every game he plays in a SLU uniform. Reggie will go for 20 ppg at least. Clarke will be the most improved player on the team from last year. He was in line to start prior to his injury last year. I look for him to average in double digits scoring wise. Izik and Newbourne are a good 1-2 punch at the four. Both are extrememly versatile. Either could start over the course of the season but I give the nod to Izik as the tempo this year will suit his style of play more, his defense has improved markedly, and I think he performs better when he starts. Frericks is a no brainer at center, any night he could give us a double double. I like Drejaj as the spark plug off the bench more than as a starter. He can play any of the guard positions so his versatility is better suited to coming off the bench. He will be the backup pg but I expect Polk to get most of the minutes there. Without seeing Alexander I am guessing he is the second guard/wing off the bench. He appears to have the ability to do more, but at this point I am expecting no more than say Dave Fergerson type play from him. Newborne will be the first forward off the bench and may play with Izik on the court at the same time with Izik moving to the 3 or the 5. Ian will back up Frericks. JJ, Meyer and Husak will be seeing the most bench time. Of those three JJ will be the only one with the possibility of seeing some decent minutes over the course of the season. This has to be one of the deepest teams in recent memory if the newcomers pan out.
  9. Carlos Macauley was a starter throughout his freshman season. I am not sure if he started his first game but he started the majority of them.
  10. Many missed chances by our old regime. We missed out on Joe Hall coaching at SLU and Jim Valvano. Valvano, though he has been all but canonized in death, was still one of the worst cheaters the NCAA has ever seen. He made Ricky Lewis look like an upstanding gentlemen.
  11. Claiborne always with the the glass half empty.
  12. from all Billiken fans. Hopefully Tommie is back in the fold to stay. Thanks for the 1st person updates jalensdad. This has been some roller ocaster ride that I hope is over. I know as fans we will do all we can to make sure Tommies time at SLu is the best it can possibly be.
  13. Has he called into Frank's show since this all came out. He usually makes a call every now and then. Does he still have a show on 1600? I would love to talk about tommie with him and get his viewpoint.
  14. I am more inclined to believe Majority does work for the NCAAs with his poor use of the english language. Have any of you read the NCAA rulebook?
  15. Do we go the cupcake route or the decent team/possible loss route? Cupcake - Grambling, Morgan St, Mercer Decent team - Notre Dame, G'town, 'Nova
  16. Why is the Post gossip writer breaking all the stories on Billiken Basketball? She seems interested enough, should we start an e-mail, letter campaing to have her put on the SLU beat? Kudos to Doug for dropping the ball one last time as he walked out the door.
  17. pleading nolo contendere is the same as pleading guilty but the admission of guilt cannot be used against the defendant in any other cases.
  18. Chris Sloan brought alot to the table but he was not a good PF. He was not a great rebounder by any stretch and had zero back to the basket skills. I have no doubt Vashun Newbourne will be a better PF than Sloan was. I have some concern about SLU's big men but I also recognize that college basketball more than ever is guard oriented. If you have 3 or 4 very good guards they can make a couple stiff big men look really really good. I would love to see a David West or Emeka Okafor in a SLU uniform but I think our best bet at success is getting as many good guards as we can. They are the key to getting to the tourney and staying alive in it. really does anyone recall any Butler big men from 02? How about the guys on Xavier this year in the post? We need competent big men who understand their roles and play within themselves. Star Pf and Centers are very very scarce. Maybe we can get a few more back in college if the NBA approves of a age limit for draftees but until then and even after success hinges on guard play and good defense.
  19. I think we will see Bonner on the Billiken bench at some point. With another year of success surely some of Brad's assts will get looks from other schools, particulairly Anthony Beane. The only problem with Bonner may be that he wants to be a HC, not an asst. He was seriously interested in the SLU job after Romar left but was not given much consideration. He won't be playing pro ball much longer with his interest he could be coaching somewhere before long.
  20. Anthony Jones was a big recruit who did not pan out. He was by far the best player in St. Louis while at Vashon. He never was more than a role player at SLU. Prop 48 was about 6'2 with a decent frame. Never could shoot consistently at SLU.
  21. I think I would like Reggie to have a ring more than Karl or Payton. The Lakers are just boring, you know they don't give their best effort every time out and they don't really have to. They only beat themselves.
  22. This is not a trend I would like to see continued.
  23. Is Landry an academic question mark?
