Nobody has suggested May be fired for tennis or field hockey facilities. But by all means keep arguing with nobody.
Do you fully understand or control these budgets? (The if you never played you can't talk fallacy)
Another nonsense statement. Anyone suggesting improvements to facilities have done nothing but show comparable sized schools or modest facilities. It's only been the other side that has extrapolated it out to the SEC. (see Roy or Hoosier)
You took all that time to write that out, because you don't care about Tennis right? Just weird, man.
I have no delusions of where Field Hockey or Tennis sits in order of importance in college athletics, especially at SLU. What I do believe is that on campus facilities should be bare minimum for a school like SLU, just as it is for similar schools.
Like I've said, if Crews and Ford don't fail, then we likely have these facilities. But it's not our job to give Chris May slack that he can't figure out the budget to provide bare minimum facilities because his hires didn't pan out and he didn't get that sweet NCAA money.
Outside of basketball and now, shockingly, soccer I have little interest in all the other non revenue sports. You are correct, I do not care about tennis. I also know less then you about the athletic department budget but I'd guess you don't know much more than I. Your definition of minimum facilities obviously is much different from the AD and that's fine but.....I'd guess you'd still have different definitions if we had a few NCAA Tourney credits had Travis ever lived up to expectations........

It is quite odd and they argue so vehemently. God forbid we question why a school like SLU can’t outclass the facilities of the local high schools in all sports. And I’m one who really doesn’t care about college sports beyond football and basketball. It just seems odd that questioning facilities that meet no standard is some aggressive take.
ROI might have something to do with it. Would indoor tennis courts or a first class baseball stadium help or hurt the bottom line? There's little chance of any revenue being generated by either and, I'd argue, little in the way of prestige generated.

Bad post.
It's also true, though somewhat hyperbolic. We're sniping about tennis and field hockey now. What's next? Salt water instead of chlorine for the diving team? It' only fair since Country Day has salt water pools. Heading to see the Billiken women play soccer tonight. Wondering why I won't have heated seats and a heads up display to explain the stuff I can't figure out from my Ted Lasso soccer education. I understand Lindenwood has heated seats.....

Everybody aspire all you want. Argue passionately for your belief that every sport should have the best of everything. Try to get the athletic director fired for not funding to your standards. Spend other peoples money with abandon in your head. Prioritize budgets you don't control or fully understand. Compare SLU to institutions they don't resemble or aspire to be like. It might actually help the situation but don't get butt-hurt when people laugh at you a little on an internet message board......

Who cares. This board is just getting silly. Sorry bro @OkieBilliken but no one who doesn't have family on the team will travel the earth like you to watch baseball, much less tennis. You can make a case for baseball facilities that makes sense to me. Despite the current Cardinal team sucking arse, this is a baseball town. We do not live in a hot bed of tennis and spending shitloads on facilities would be crazy. I miss Jimmy Connors too, but that was a LONG time ago.

Has anyone heard any updates on this new facility? You’d think with how facility upgrades are so celebrated in college athletics and help with recruiting you’d hear more about this project. Very weird.
May was assured the site was a Native American burial ground and when that wasn't the case it took FOREVER to import some remains to assure it was cursed. It'll be announced presently......

Not sure what tickets normally cost but got an email from the ticket office with free tix for the first three games. Took advantage of the tix for BYU. I can talk my lovely wife into nearly any sporting event preceded by a pretzel and beer at Urban Chestnut. The opener is supposed to be ugly on the weather front....
Hey @courtside! On the 22nd, I'll be the big guy wearing the blue StlDenise3D (my lovely wife's company) shirt, if you want to come over and kick my a$$ or, you know, just say hi....

It is a GREAT DAY in Billiken athletics when the only thing to beotch about is the non-revenue (not ever) sport of baseball. Not enough people care about baseball for it to supplant BREAK DANCING as an Olympic sport. God love Coach H but when he retires or leaves the same number of fans are going to go to the games as go now. Could the Billikens charge money to attend games if we had MICDS level facilities? No. Is the Big East going to give a rip about our baseball complex? No. It would be nice for everyone to have better facilities, hell I'd like a new hot tub, but I'd rather get a new floor with the Arch on it for the only sports that matter.......

I tried watching archery, and the archers had all kinds of counterweights and aiming scopes attached to their bows. Take all that stuff off! Legolas just needed a wood bow with a string, and he could outshoot anyone I saw in the Olympics.
Well......at least they don't allow compounds and cable releases. Archery is freaking hard. I use a 45lbs Bear (cub) stick bow from the 70s. As a fairly strong grown ass man it's a total pain in the buttocks to hold that at full draw for any length of time, much less hit anything with it. Legolas was in a damned movie and invented surfing on a damn shield.......

I took off my shoes so I could use my toes, went to the Billiken roster page, which has all players listed, and counted 14. The NCAA limit is 15. If Coach Tillett is fine with heading into the season with only 14, I guess it’s her choice. I just think back to last year, when we had to get Knox College as a replacement at the last minute because Davidson couldn’t muster enough players to play a game, or back to Lisa Stone’s last season, when we played with only 7 a couple times, and 6 players in the St Joseph’s game. I think I would want 15 just in case, or to use in practice if nothing else. But, if Coach Tillett is comfortable with only 14, I guess we play with 14.
Hold one for a midyear transfer?

Much to my surprise I made a search on bofa and it came up with Bank of America. BofA credit card points are worth $0.01 each. The shares are $40.01 each.
Need to check the urban dictionary. (and yes that is where this unhip 55 year old had to find it.)

Interesting - but not real encouraging - article on the recent NCAA meetings and the power conferences vs the rest:
If I have to spend March scouting new trails to hike and rivers to paddle and lakes to fish, I'll probably be happier than waiting to get further rooked by the power four or five or however many there are. When March Madness gets blown up, I may take in a women's game or two or maybe even a soccer game. Haven't been to a men's soccer game since my kids were on the field.....

I have a sneaky suspicion this might be the case. Makes me dislike the Adept personal even more.
05 is one of the few people in the world that may be a bigger SLU fan then myself. Pretty wild to push out the die hard fans. Was hoping this would change with the new crew. Need to cater to the younger fans if they ever want to be big time and not be left in the dust.
Yeah but the problem is that really, truly, diehard fans are prone to bouts of assholery and unrealistic expectations. Not saying this always the case or the case with 05 most of the time. Only takes an occasional bout of assholery before everyone gets butt-hurt.....

This is pathetic.
The crowd size is limited to vested interest parties alone because the facilities in question negatively impact any casual baseball fan’s decision on whether or not to attend.
The ‘product’ on the field at least this past year was on par with programs that draw far larger paid attendance. Those programs do not have fan facilities along the lines of a little league.
This isn’t hard to figure out.
I had no idea how many disabled folks were interested in Billiken Baseball!
Sorry hard to see more baseball fans, much less paying fans, without a ton of changes and years of buildup. Again it's not a priority for hardly anybody. Still sucks but.........

Like @Littlebillsaid WPG is either already ADA accessible or absolutely should be. It's not really 1 to 1 situation either, you could easily access the court in a wheelchair.
I can't believe you're arguing that because it's not legally required that we shouldn't have made it possible for people confined to wheelchairs to easily view Billiken Baseball games. Jesus F'in Christ. My Catholic highschool wasn't ada compliant and I used to carry a kid down the stairs everyday. Just saying, if your average crowd is under 100 for a free event......maybe, well, not highest priority.......

Here's the bottom line:
The Billiken Baseball bleachers are not ADA Accessible. The only thing that needed to happen is a concrete walkway and a ramp. It's been this way since May arrived. If May is the decision maker, this should have been sorted at some point in the last 10-15 years. If May is not the decision maker and the BoT would not approve ADA Accessibility additions then what is May still doing here. They are making him look incompetent.
If we were charging admission that might be a problem. Should we also make West Pine ADA compliant because I'd be shocked if it is.

Ok, in good faith, please show me the athletic department budget. No guessing allowed. I'd like to know your immediate priorities, how you'd fund them and what you'd cut. It's pretty easy to say tennis or whatever is under-supported without knowing any details or having to make decisions about it. Do you go out and buy a new car every time your next door neighbor does?
Oh and I think Willie mentioned indoor tennis courts, you know, if we wanted to be on par with local high schools or whatever. I think both sides are guilty of debating against the extremes, not that Willie is that.....
