Roy you are missing the point. This is not about the employees of Bear Sterns or their stockholders. This is the 5th largest bank in our system. You can not let them fail because their failure could kill the whole system. As I said before they don't operate in a vacum. American Home Mtg. New Century Mtg, most of Novastar financial were allowed to go broke because the system could absorb that. There is no way Bear could go under without severly impacting our financial system as we know it. Is a large firm more important? Yes because it effects so many more people.

Man I thought Hurbert Hoover died along time ago. Our economic system is built on a solid banking system. It may be philosopically ok to say let the weak go out of business but not practical. Bear does not operate in a vacum. If they fail what is to keep the markets from raiding Citi or Nat City, Lehman or Bank America. How about all the Bear Sterns paper owned by individuals and institutions? Bear failed not because they owned a bunch of bad paper but because Wall Street lost faith in there ability to repay their loans. This is not about sub prime loans, this was simply a run on the bank. I for one am very thankfull that the Fed played Jimmie Stewart. My only complaint is that JP Morgan appears to given a sweetheart deal. Will this be inflationary? I don't know,but we've just gone through some very deflationary mark downs of bank and real estate assets. Protecting a system is more important than free market ideaology.

I think the biggest difference has been Tommie's willingness to take the ball to the hole. Only in the last 6 games or so has he been breaking his man down and going to the basket and either scoring or getting fouled. The fact that he shot 12 throws last night was great. Is this Tommies doing or the coaches? I don't know but it was lacking in the early part of the season.

Here again this is not a knock on Paul but he has limitations. His biggest plus is that he does what RM wants. If we are going to be a top team he can't play 20 min. a game. Assuming the other can learn Rick's offense Paul's time will be severly cut.

This is not a knock on Paul ,but I would be disappointed if Femi could not take a lot of Paul's time.

The announcers last night were touting Stallings for the Indiana job. . His name comes up for some job every couple of years. I don't know how much he makes but I would think Vandy would be a pretty good place to work. He's proven he can win there. I'm sure Dr. B will tell me but I'm not sure why everyone says Indiana is a top 5 job.

Anderson got 1 layup in the second half on a pass from Dunston when Tommie went to double. I could not figure out why Anderson didn't go to the hole everytime Tommie doubled. Our game plan seemed to be better than theirs.

Roy why do you hate Pearl? He's actually one of my favorite coaches. I admire what he did by turning in Dione Thomas and Illinois. College basketball would be a lot better off if people had the guts to turn in cheaters. Besides I don't think Pearl takes himself so seriously.

It is obvious that with the exception of Bryce everyone is being told to get back. I don't know if that is a coaching philosophy,or RM believing this team is uncapable of offense rebounding so you might as well get back. I do wish Tommie had the freedom to go to the offensive board but he almost always rotates back when the shot goes up.

While Eck may start somewhere it won't be at point guard. He really does not handle it that well. In Saturdays game there were a few moments when Kevin and Polk were both out of the game,Tommie handled the point for that time. Tommie had a nice assist to someone inside. I wish RM would let Tommie play the backup point spot instead of Kevin. I've also come to the conclusion that as many faults as he has Polk still has to play most of the point's minutes.

Skip I agree with you about Tommie being a point guard. Yes he turned the ball over too often last year but his court vision is far superior to anyone else on the team. I have also come to accept Polk as the best option we have at the point unless you use Tommie. Paul does not handle it that well, and I think it's killing Kevin's offense when he handles the point. I don't think it's an accident that Kevin handled the point a lot last night and only got 4 shots. I've come to the conclusion that Polks got to play if you care about Kevins offense.

Speaking of rebounding and blocking shots did anybody see the guy from Mississippi State last night. He ended up with a triple double. Had something like 11 blocks . He was shooting something like 25% from the free throw line before last night but made a couple down the stretch to get his double digit points.

I for one don't mind not getting the tip. That gives us the first jump ball,or the ball to start the second half. Getting that tie up can sometimes be big.
