  1. Roy your probably a little young for this but in the early70's when the tourney only had 25?teams they tried to have a runner up tournament. I think they called it the commisioners tournament. All of the 2nd place teams who couldn't go to the NCAA's met here in St. Louis for a tournament. I can't remember how many teams were in it but I do remember Bobbie Knight and Indiana were here. All Bobbie did was complain and call it a losers tournament. It was not a financial success. I believe the idea was the creation of SLU's AD Larry Albus. Larry might not have been a great AD but he was a fantastic promoters. In the 70's he staged several doubleheaders at the the old arena, bringing in the best teams in the coutry to play each other. Teams like UCLA would play NC State who had the great David Thompson. In those days there was not a lot of interregional play.SLU would sometimes get to play in the second game of the doubleheader and I assume would have a good payday and greater exposure.
  2. There is nothong wrong with 39% shooting from the 3. Thats the equivalent of a 58% 2pt shooter.
  3. Torch that was a very good post, but I think you are being a little generous to Dreja. Please this is not a Dreja bashing post but his numbers were not high enough or consistent enough to rate a B. To nit-pick I would give him a C+ based more on effort and leadership then actual basketball productivity.
  4. I disagree with the international play. While he may have tired Ian's improvement was huge, part of that must be attributed to his playing in international competition. He won't get any better playing in the Bonner league.
  5. Texas A&m is a preseason tourney.I assume we will play 3 games and it will only count as one.
  6. I'm sure some people will be upset by Bernie but I think he is good for our program. He continually prods us to be better ,to acheive Larrys promise of being a top 50 program. His bit comments about the arena may have helped push Larry to go ahead and bite the bullet and set a date. We need to have high expectations. I don't think anyone wants a coaching change but Brad must give us improved results. If he is the long term answer things must get better. Bernie and Gordon and the media as a whole would love to jump and stay on our bandwagon. In the meantime I'm glad they are out there asking hard questions, putting pressure on program to do better.
  7. I hope your right about Kevin being better then Drew, but Drew was a damn good player who got a cup of coffee in the NBA. I'd be thrilled if he was just as good.
  8. I'd rather have the tournament in vegas but Atlantic City might work.
  9. Brad did say that a lot of JJ's lack of playing time is based on practice.
  10. it's OK by me. By overall athletic department I mean basketball/soccer.
  11. It's not a title 9 factor. Lose 1 gain 1. You just save money.
  12. They save some scholarship money, and some travel money, and whatever Schwent made. The way I understand it the track team is nothing more than the cross country team running long distance races during the spring. I'm sure they won't change scholarship money for the cross country runners,or if they do it won't be much. I think you can look at this in two ways. One, Cheryl is a smart by having 2 Title 9 sports with the same scholarship dollars. The other is why do we have such a mickey mouse operation. Since I really only care about basketball and soccer I'll go with number one.
  13. Grunk was the assistant who did the scouting.
  14. Hey Prez. you didn't do so well on your running of the lines. I guess your not going to be a member of the new track team. Congratulations on your year as blue crew president. You kids did a great job.
  15. There were only a couple of names that I knew and my quess is that people like Sanzere do very few A10 games.
  16. It would be interesting to see what the A10 pays vs.the other top leagues. My guess is they pay quite a bit less. If my memory serves I seem to remember Woolard talking about CUSA having to raise pay and benefits to attract the top officials. As I said once before Wellmer,O'Neil and the boys never looked so good.
  17. Speaking of outside shooting I'm worried about Luke. I'm not convinced that he can shoot it enough to be next years starting 3 man.Don't forget we lose Dreja, someone who can shoot the 3 and help open up the middle. I still hope that Danny Brown can be that guy.
  18. This begs the question of why must we always be in the pack defense. Several times we doubled to help Ian and they passed out for open 3's.Ian doesn't need help, certainly not against Dayton.
  19. I'll take my chances. Split the next 2 games. win 3 in the tournament. Lose in the first round of the NCAA's Win the next 2. Win 2 in Cinnci. Lose in first round of the NIT. Oh hell we'll just win out and become national champs.
  20. Worries about Brad going somewhere is a typical Billiken inferiority complex. I like Brad but come on. What has he done to get hired away? Don't get me wrong I think Brad is a good fit for our program but it's more about potential than results. Were not talking about Bruce Pearl numbers. Lets go to the dance a few years, then a trip to the sweet 16,then you might talk about him at higher profile jobs.
  21. I think Scott does a great job. He does his homework. He actually talks to the coaching staff and gets a little perspective on the gameplan. I don't know if he has any broadcasting ambitions[he does other games such as the MVC] but he seems to work at it. On the other hand Joe Wiley just goes through the motion and adds very little.
  22. I don't know how many min. Clagett played his freshman year but he almost left because he wasn't happy with the way he was used.
