I have reached billiken_roy levels of posting (7/7)

  1. It was never confirmed that Schertz was interested in Mongo Mike, but now it doesn't matter.
  2. I see there have been several posts on the Suns coaching situation. Interesting that @billiken_roy professes he doesn't watch the NBA, doesn't like the NBA yet contributes to the discussion. That is all fine and dandy - everyone is entitled to an opinion, but it is hard to take someone seriously who doesn't watch or know about the NBA. As far as your statement, you need to look at Beal's, Durant's and Booker's stats. Beal had a down year. He was hurt most of it, only played in 49 of the 82 regular season's games. I feel for the man. His performance had nothing to do with coaching, It has to do with his body. Durant and Booker pretty much had typical years. No significant variation from previous seasons or from career levels. Grayson Allen, there one of two dependable scorers besides the big three, was also hurt and couldn't contribute much in the playoffs. The biggest issue for the Suns was the Toxic contract that GM James Jones bought with Bradley Beal. I'm sure he had owner Ishbia's approval, but it ranks as one of the worst moves in recent history. Beal has three years, if he activates the third year player option, and $110 million left on his contract. Unfortunately he has a history of injuries, and there is no reason to think he will magically be able to play 70 to 80 games per season. So you have a veteran superstar on the down side of his career and you have no room to add significant support players. You add that to Durant's and Booker's contracts, and the Suns have no room to add any support players for the team. They have put themselves into a no win position, with an aging team. Durant might be tradeable at $106 million left over two years. In the NBA, it is not the coach who puts the team together. It is the GM, with of course input from the owner and coach. It appears that @billiken_roy thinks the coach traded Goodwin. He didn't. The GM did. This is not like college where the coach in fact is responsible for his roster.
  3. Here is a FAQ on the move from today's Springfield News Leader. https://www.news-leader.com/story/sports/college/msu/2024/05/10/missouri-state-conference-usa-faq-football-fbs-fcs-espn-tv-deal-expenses-clif-smart-mvc-valley/73640659007/
  4. Gotta be a football move. The Valley isn’t having a good off season.
  5. Some of the stuff in Scouting Notes was kind of funny to read. > Pretty slow even at his top speed > Solid low-man help but not really making plays, just good at being in the way
  6. UMass getting interesting. Second pickup in 24 hours.
  7. This is the best of the five or six Schertz interview's I have heard. Slaten spent the next 15 minutes after Schertz by talking about the interview, SLU hoops and college basketball.
  8. Haven't seen Stu's 5/07 article on the baseball team posted yet (I do have one regular poster on this thread on Ignore so maybe i missed it). https://www.stltoday.com/sports/college/slu/slu-baseball-sitting-in-first-place-as-injured-standouts-get-ready-to-return/article_bf411b02-0c9e-11ef-82a3-43d770bb12cb.html
  9. You kind of went off the rails in this Dayton Flyer player discussion, and I had pretty much tuned you out. But wow, you really haven't watched much Pacer basketball, have you. Toppin started 28 games for the Pacers this year. Then they traded for Pascal Siakam, one of the elite power forwards in the league and Toppin went to the second squad. Toppin has been valuable on the Pacer's second team, which if you followed the NBA, you would know is one of the top 5 or so in the league-depends on how you want to measure. (Yes Carlisle brings in 5 guys, so that would be players 6-10. Call him a #10 if you want. Or call him #6.) Toppin averaged 40% from the arc this season. It is hard to dunk from the arc. In the NBA playoffs, coaches shorten their bench. Toppin has been a key member of Carlisle's primary 8 man rotation. He is playing the 4 and 5. He and second team PG TJ McConnell basically put the Bucks away in Game 6. Toppin has a $9.2 million qualifying offer on the table for next season. That's high cotton for a first round bust. You are kind of being rough on Greg Oden. If you forgot, he had three injuries to the same knee in his 3 years of activity. He was only able to play 105 games in his career because of injuries and surgery. A bust to you, but an unfortunate series of events to me.
  10. Here is a draft scouting report written today. First pick second round. [BTW, which pro team do you scout for?] Sure he might return to Dayton; they have an impressive NIL program that made last season comfortable for Holmes. Second round doesn't carry the guarantee or money that a first round does. Whatever he decides, he will be making nice money next year. 31. DaRon Holmes Rob Gray-USA TODAY Sports (Dayton: Forward, Junior, 6-10) Previous rank: 50 (+19) / Best rank: 22 / Worst rank: NR DaRon Holmes had the third-highest jump of any prospect in our latest HoopsHype aggregate mock draft. Several NBA executives are high on Holmes and believe he could be off the board as a late first-round pick. It should come as no surprise after Holmes dominated at Dayton after returning for his junior season by winning the A-10 Co-Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. With the NBA featuring heavy pick-and-roll actions against big men, Holmes can hold his own defensively with his length and foot speed to hold his own on the perimeter and block shots around the rim. During his junior season at Dayton, Holmes became a floor spacer and potential pick-and-pop threat at the NBA level by shooting 38.6 percent on 2.5 three-point attempts.
