He taught me nuances of the game, things I before never saw, to watch what happens away from the ball, as opposed to always watching the ball. I could write a book about the Ekker Era, with separate chapters devoted to each semester of his last season, Year 4, '81-'82, my Senior year at SLU, another to the previous season, '80-'81, Ekker Year 3. That was the year SLU had David Burns, the Metro Conference Co-Player of the Year in that, his Senior season, and lost at home to McKendree College. I know losing to SIUe on 12/21/22 was bad, but my Junior year SLU lost to McKendree, which still has to be the worst ever.
