Dr Bird
Everyone can se the players were gassed after a long season with a very short bench. Why Coach insists on a man-to-man for the entire game makes no sense. VCU simply spread the floor, and let the dribbler take his man to the bucket. Many times, we had no help defense. Coach should have mixed the D up a little, both to make VCU adjust, and to give our guys some help. Anyone else notice that we get creamed at the start of many 2nd halves? We need more halftime adjustments
doowop
Even though RM prefers a man to man defense, a zone at times last night may have given the players to a chance to rest. As tired as they seemd to be, a zone for a short while probably would have helped.
Quality Is Job 1
I don't necessarily agree. A good zone defense doesn't provide any rest. If you watch Syracuse, check out how active all of those players are on defense. Coach Majerus believes you can't be really good at more than one defensive system, so he just works to be really good at man-to-man defense. And rebounding out of a zone defense is problematic. He has said he will turn it over to Porter. We all know how great Porter is.
