  1. I hope you’re right. But injuries were up across the board this year (I think the short season last year took its toll this summer), but there’s a reason the Giants and Dodgers and Rays won 100 games. The thing that scares me about the Cardinals is while their rotation and defense are elite, they’re not exactly an offensive juggernaut, and I’m not sure how much I trust the back end of their bullpen. If a couple starters aren’t at their absolute best, against the best lineups in the game, the Cards’ lineup isn’t likely to out score their opponent. Not to mention I think the Cards have the toughest path to the World Series.
  2. Not trying to be a jerk, but I’d be willing to bet every other team in the playoffs is saying something similar about the Cardinals. They’ve gone on a remarkable run, but you can’t just completely dismiss the 1st 5 months of the season when they were basically a .500 ball club. I’ll be rooting for the Cards tonight, but let’s pump the brakes a bit.
  3. I don’t live in the Bay Area, so I don’t know all the ins and outs, and feel free to correct anything I have wrong here @Bay Area Billiken, but I mostly subscribe to the idea that cities shouldn’t be paying to build stadiums for sports franchise owners. If you want to give them tax breaks or whatever, great. But it shouldn’t be tax payers’ responsibility to fund a shiny new stadium just so the A’s don’t move. But that’s just me.
  4. Sean, thanks for keeping us up to date! Love your posts and inside info. Assuming everyone understands that anything and everything could change over the next several years, do you think SLU has a realistic shot at being the school for Aaron?
  5. From the 3-point line, maybe. But we’ll NEVER see a SLU team shoot better from the charity stripe than the ‘19-‘20 Billikens. That team will go down in history for their free throw shooting!
  6. Are you trying to say Jim Crews couldn’t recruit athletes the caliber of Jordan Nesbitt?
  7. Yup. Jordan was recruited hard by Dean Smith and the University of North Carolina Tarheels, but he committed to UMSL because he was convinced Tom Bartow was the only coach that could help Michael reach his true potential.
  8. Ummmmm…Michael Jordan, the GOAT, Greatest Of All Time, was an UMSL Triton!
  9. I actually was pretty happy with who was called in, considering Puli and Reyna were obviously not going to be ready. This is BY FAR our easiest window (doesn’t mean we’ll get results). I understand that people aren’t happy with Zardes over Pefok, Arriola over Konrad de la Fuente, Green and Scally being left off, but they could all easily be included next month when we play Mexico. Asking guys to leave their clubs and fly across the world once a month, playing 3 games in a week, then flying back and contribute to their clubs without missing a beat, I think, is asking a lot of these guys. I don’t mind rotating some guys in and out of the roster depending on the window.
  10. I mean, I’m as excited about Mr. Nesbitt as anybody, but when I watched both of those clips, the 1st thing that popped into my head was: “Brett Jolly could do that. Easy.” *Blue Font for anyone who couldn’t tell I was being sarcastic*
  11. Braves and Cards already in, I’m cheering for chaos! Also hoping the Dodgers win and Giants lose, so they have a 1-game playoff for the West.
  12. Keep winning. Get into the tournament and make a run. I don’t think those goals are that lofty. We’re right there, we just need that 1 breakthrough season. Maybe this is it. Who knows? But we’re not that far away.
  13. I mean, I know he plays for BBE, but isn’t Nick Smith from Little Rock? Arkansas is “staying home” for him as much as SLU was from Yuri or TJ or JGood or Nesbitt. Musselman is definitely doing work down there, but shouldn’t we assume some context is required in this situation?
  14. As of 51 minutes ago, MLBtraderors.com has Cardinals and Wainwright agreeing to a deal. Couldn’t be happier for Wainwright. Outside of how great he is on the mound, he’s just such a great dude. And listening to him call some games in the playoffs last year, he’d be great in the booth after he retires. But I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: that curveball he threw to Beltran to buckle his knees in the NLCS is the ballsiest pitch I’ve ever seen!
  15. I heard the rumors too. Weren’t they started by something Shannon said on air? I’m not saying it’s impossible, but there would have to be a pretty good reason, they way the value of professional sports franchises is skyrocketing. There would have to be an offer that blew them away, or health or some other reason.
  16. I agree with all of this. I’m not taking a shot at Cards fans. Some of my best friends are Cards fans and the overwhelming majority have been great to interact with. Just the whole narrative, media invention or not (it is), is nauseating.
  17. I can understand the being spoiled to an extent. They’ve won the 2nd most World Series and haven’t been the worst team in the NL in over 100 years. What irritates me is the whole “best fans in baseball” narrative that gets shoved down everyone’s throat simply because they show up (the Cardinals are usually good, I wonder how many fans would show up if the Cards started rebuilding and playing like the Pirates or Orioles), and are moderately polite to other teams’ players. They’re not any more loyal than any other team’s fans. It just gets under my skin.
  18. And trust me, I’ve run into PLENTY of the so-called “best fans in baseball” who are complete POSes too.
  19. Yup. I also remember 1996, when the Cardinals had a 3-1 lead and then the Braves won the next 3 games 14-1, 2-0 and 15-1
  20. Just for tonight, I’m hijacking this thread, so me and @billiken_roycan celebrate 4 straight NL East titles for the Braves. But in all honesty, I’ll be rooting for the Cards in the WC/NLDS and hoping for a Cards/Braves NLCS.
  21. So I just viewed Perk’s nomination, I had no idea he shot 50% from 3 at Chaifetz. That’s crazy. P.S. if anybody has a recording of the LSU game last year (I don’t know if the Billikens vault is still active on the Tube) I’d love to see it. I watched it live, but I’d love to rewatch Perk and Cam just going head to head, bucket for bucket, down the stretch.
  22. This is so true. Not to change the subject, but TBS had the same effect for the Braves. There are Cardinals and Braves fans in every corner of America because they were actually accessible on a nightly basis before streaming and MLB.tv existed. It also helps that while KMOX was delivering nightly Jack Buck Cardinals broadcasts to millions, they were winning 11 World Championships and when TBS had exclusive rights to bringing Braves broadcasts to millions, they were running a future Hall of Famer out to the mound 3 nights a week and winning 14 straight division titles.
  23. His brand is “unknown” like his Instagram handle. I’ve seen a few of his shirt designs and think they look really cool. The question mark features prominently.
  24. I think the odds of nobody transferring after this season is very unlikely. I don’t know how it will all shake out, but I am sure Ford & Co. have a plan. Maybe Traore is the 4 next year. He looks to have a legitimate jumper. Who knows? But something tells me that slot will eventually get filled.
