  1. I didn’t realize that the Ramblers Assist Coach Matt Gordon was DBO here from 2008 to 2011.
  2. Good news. Who else is on the A10 squad? Each conference squad gets four, with max of two from one school. EDIT: Okay, got a partial answer. Rene Castro-Cannedy (Duquesne) and Matt Mobley (St. Bonaventure) are two of the three.
  3. What was surprising for me was that Johnson is academically a Junior. First, good for him. Second, that puts him in a GT possible category after next season. To me it's also likely he returns so that he can graduate May 2019 and assess his options. Foreman being only a Junior is somewhat disappointing. What was he doing at Rutgers? But the other side of that coin is that he likely won't graduate this May and won't be eligible to GT. Of course, the site could be wrong and all this could be smoke. I also think that this says nothing about Welmer returning. He could stay and get his Masters, a la Crawford. It's 50/50 until we hear from him or the staff.
  4. Coach Integrity just got hosed to the tune of $21,226.42 per minute for the services of Michael Porter Jr. Great Deal Coach!!
  5. Just for S and G, here is the current academic class listed by SLU People Finder for each returning player. Seniors: Bess and Welmer Juniors: Johnson, Foreman, and Santos (this was surprising) Freshman: French
  6. The Illini’s Michael Finke added his name to the GT list. 6’10” stretch. 9.8/4.6
  7. Moser reportedly made a base of $420K this season. Hurley's number at Rhody was reported to be $1.1M. X is paid Mack $1.6M. Pitt would pay whatever they have to to land a 'profile' coach. All jobs open or likely soon to be open. So how much will Moser be making next season and where will it be?
  8. 34 on the list today, Sunday March 25. Take your pick.
  9. For me, the biggest drawback of the A10 is the lack of Midwest schools. We grab onto Dayton as our 'rival' because that is all we have. But still, how many drive to Dayton for away games - me guess is very few. If you can't get to an opponent's gym for a game, all you have is trash talking on message boards. Has Brown Indian made St. Bonnie a hated rival? Don't think so. Give me 4 schools within a two hour drive any day over the spread we have now. Media markets no longer mean what they once did. I can get any A10 basketball game on my TV or computer. I can read any news paper from any city on my computer. Overlapping media markets is a term from the 1990's. So give me Loyola. Give me Bradley. Give me Belmont. Give me some more Midwest schools where we can develop something special. Heck if UMSL was D1, I'd say bring them on in.
  10. That doesn’t fit the hate narrative very well so it can’t be true even though Porter said it on national TV.
  11. Hardaway gets Memphis HS 4 star recruit Alex Lomax for next year, who flipped away from Wichita State. Lomax played for Hardaway at Memphis East.
  12. It's McCarty going back to Evansville. He'll leave the Celtics bench and return to his home town. You can go back to criticizing Guy Phillips or the Chaifetz Banners now.
  13. I agree Schmidt would be a good hire, but a tough sell for the Pitt community. He indeed has done a great job at Olean. Their first choice was Crean, Hurley was next, so they are at least down to Plan C. Reportedly they would snap up Miller if Arizona bounces him.
  14. It looks like the going rate for a coach with even minimal NCAA tourney success is $3 M per year. Apparently Mark Schmidt's name is in the running as Plan E or maybe Plan F. Looks like they are already down to Plan C. Pitt realizes Schmidt would NOT be a home run. Schmidt's wife is from Western PA.
  15. I posted this on the other Coaching thread. Is next man up David Cox? URI fans assume he will get the head job since he has been the Associate Head Coach per Hurley's last extension. If Cox is not hired URI will have to pay a buyout, plus Cox is responsible for recruiting a majority of the current underclassman and the great incoming class. And he has a perfect career head coaching record! (3-0 filling in for Mike Rice at Rutgers)
  16. URI reportedly offered Hurls $2 million/year for 7 years and a new practice facility to be completed within 2 years per Jeff Goodman. Everyone knew going in UConn already had a dedicated practice facility in place and could top URI by at least a million for any offer. Now is next man up at Rhody David Cox? URI fans are assuming David Cox will get the head job since he has been the Associate Head Coach per Hurley's last extension. If Cox is not hired URI will have to pay him a buyout, plus Cox is responsible for recruiting a majority of the current underclassman and the incoming class. Two other names surfacing are Nate Oats from Buffalo and John Becker from Vermont. Oats was on Bobby Hurley's staff at Buffalo and earned the promotion after he left for ASU.
  17. According to Pat Hickey of the Evansville Courier Press, current Boston Celtic Assist Coach Walter McCarty is the new front runner for the Purple Aces gig. He is an Evansville native. He also notes that Xavier Assistant Travis Steele withdrew his name as a candidate for Evansville when the Chris Mack to Louisville rumors started.
  18. Louisville AD, "Thank you Dave Padgett for the great job you did, considering the position we put you in." "Thanks, but goodbye". Hope Padgett hooks on somewhere else.
  19. Evansville grad transfer Ryan Taylor has heard from Butler, Northwestern, Vandy, South Carolina, Ohio St, Ole Miss, Wisconsin, Oklahoma, Illinois, Georgetown, Creighton, Minnesota, BC, Indiana, UCLA, Arizona, Wake, Miami, Purdue, Baylor, Maryland & Missouri. Think we have a shot?
  20. Kermit Davis gets a nice salary at $2.5 million with an assistant coach budget of $900,000 at Ole Miss. For those with short memories, Davis got caught at Texas A&M in the 1990's for using a street agent to go after a Syracuse transfer. He got canned for it but now has made his way back. Louisville has loaded up the Brink's Truck with Marshall, Smart, and Mack on their list. Hardaway made official at Memphis today.
  21. Pitt offers Hurley a multi year contract at $3M per. That tops UConn's offer, and undoubtedly any offer Rhody can make. Hurley needs to go. Does anyone remember Ben Jacobsen? He was the flavor of the day a couple of years ago, could have jumped from N Iowa but stayed. Unless you can repeat, ala Miller, Marshall, Smart when he was at VCU, you have to jump when you can. Rhody would be an A10 top third team next year if Hurley stays. But he won't, and his excellent recruiting class will collapse.
  22. I think most fans enjoyed the budding rivalry with Butler. They are close enough for fans to go to away games. But unfortunately, now, Butler has left us in their rear view mirror.
  23. Ha! Yeah relevant unless he brings a bunch of relatives with him.
  24. True. The actual spring signing period is April 11 to May 16. After that the players would sign a financial aid letter rather than a LOI.
