  1. No comment needed. No, don't go up and read about UT's 2.89 GPA.
  2. Ok, this has nothing to do with Jimerson and Weaver, nor Billiken Hoops, but it is hilarious. And you know these guys aren't taking many challenging courses.
  3. I too remember listening to the call on radio. Was it Rammer and Claiborne? I think that was before Earl's time. In addition to the 45, Bonner had 20 boards and only 1 TO. And he played all 45 minutes. It will be extremely difficult for any future Billiken to top that overall effort.
  4. Regardless of what Figueroa has said or not said, personally I have ZERO problem with anyone using COVID 19 as a waiver-reason to get the heck out of NYC.
  5. No offense taken. Certainly there is speculation in my opinion. I underlined guess as a starter. The NCAA hasn't tabled the transfer rule. They moved it back and have changed the process. They want to go through a legislative process rather than use a waiver from the existing rule. This May 20th link from the NCAA provides the latest. http://www.ncaa.org/about/resources/media-center/news/di-council-approves-transfer-resolution I too hope it never comes to fruition. But I would bet that it will in a year or two at the most. Part of the reason is that the NCAA, and I believe they would agree, knows their current waiver program is broken. They realize it isn't going to get any better and the time they spend on waivers isn't going to lessen. As far as the COVID waiver, Figureoa's portal entry has been suggested to be on that aspect. I have read more than one sports column that suggests this flood of COVID related requests will happen. Why wouldn't it? If I was seeking a waiver, for sure I would use 'the closer to home due to the virus' angle. The other common waiver request speculated by writers, will be "I was told there would be a free transfer rule". For me, that one is a 'too bad' response. From Newsday, May 26: The acknowledgment that the NCAA needs to change its rules augurs well for those seeking waivers to play in 2020-21. That Figueroa wishes to transfer from a school in the center of the COVID-19 pandemic makes him a strong candidate regardless. I am not enamored with the ethics of coaches, alumni, sponsors, AAU coaches, etc. who flirt with tampering lines. There are many ways 'to get into someone's ear'. They know how to stretch the boundaries. Enough from me.
  6. The NCAA will get buried this year on COVID waiver requests....I want to be closer to home, I need to be closer to home. Will the NCAA grant them or not, who knows? The NCAA has already given spring athletes a blanket COVID waiver for an extra year. The NCAA has soooo many issues right now, they may just say yes to the basketball waiver requests and get them off their list. Very few transfers may end up sitting. Verbal Commits lists 930 transfers, six added in the past day. How many of the 930 will request a waiver and how many will use COVID in the request? 300? 500? 700? Everyone will likely get one free NCAA transfer after this next season, so why spend time evaluating this pile of waiver requests? It's not like the NCAA has a reputation of honesty and respect they need to uphold. Players transfer from likely NCAA tourney teams all the time. Just about every NCAA school has had one player transfer. Just a random number here, but 60 of the 68 NCAA teams for next season may have had a transfer out. In the Big 10, Maryland, Indiana, Iowa, Purdue, Michigan, Ohio State, all potential tourney teams, lost players. It happens. Let's hope neither French nor Goodwin (or Perkins) take leave. But to think neither has been approached, well, I'm guessing they may have.
  7. Agree. I think it is called, get used to it. Frankly I would now be more surprised if schools had NOT been in Goodwin and French's ear, particularly French as he is from the East.
  8. St. John's Figueroa hit the portal today. Interesting but not surprising rumor on waiver.
  9. Jalen Crutcher is currently ninth on the Flyer historical career list with 470 career assists. He will end up as either #2 or #1 on their career assist list. I'd say he is doing okay. He will be a candidate for POY in the A10. From the Flyer website: After three seasons as UD's starting point guard, he is currently 36th in career scoring at UD with 1,170 points, and ninth with 470 career assists. Crutcher is third at UD in career assists per game (5.0) and second in assist-to-turnover ratio (2.18).
  10. I haven't seen anything on Ryan Daly. Perhaps I missed his announcement, if he has made it. And of course, Mr. Toppin won't be returning to Dayton.
  11. The majority of colleges will undoubtedly follow. Texas announced the same today. This probably means sparse attendance in OOC (if fans are allowed) in every basketball arena. With the campus' all but vacant, it puts the basketball players and staff in a much safer environment.
  12. For my 2 cents, until rosters are finalized, all this discussion is just great internet fodder. Maybe discuss tiers right now, but to be upset that one writer puts one team ahead of another, well, okay. But it is fun to talk about. Even tiers will be destroyed depending on final rosters. But we all can agree, with what we think we know today, that Richmond and SLU should be in the top tier. We all know Richmond has every starter back, plus Crabtree comes off of his transfer sit and they picked up one of Wake Forest's commits. Duquesne returns every player of import except Steele, plus has a nice incoming class. So do they make the top tier? St. Bonnie has everyone pretty much back. UMass came on strong as the season progressed and has the young core returning. Dayton, with Crutcher and Watson, won't be an easy W. Coach McKillop always has a competitive team down in N. Charlotte. VCU was preseason pick to win the A10 last season.
  13. The list keeps growing and will likely be the norm. There will be (hopefully) a lot of college basketball games with no students until mid January. That assumes any fans will be allowed.
  14. I see where 4 players entered the portal in the past 24 hours. I don't think the portal ever closes. And didn't Bartley transfer out of SLU like in August of 2016? I have no idea if he used the portal at that time or just went out on his own. I'm guessing that there could be some more bumps as colleges announce their intentions for 2020/21 sports and workouts.
  15. I'm hoping they stay, but nothing would surprise me anymore. Francis already transferred once, into Richmond. Yes, losing any of those (5) you mention changes the landscape of the A10. It is hard to imagine players jumping from potential Top 25 Teams to another situation, but 21 - 22 year old's think differently than I do.
  16. Thanks for the heads up on the interview. Other interesting comments, this current recruiting class wasn't difficult as they had seen their signees in person. Going forward, it will be much more difficult to recruit as the prospects need to be seen. But a positive is that SLU is concentrating on St. Louis and doesn't have to leave the town as much as others. Ford doesn't know if Covid-19 will keep athletes closer to home or not. He says this next recruiting class may indicate if that is going to happen. Covid budget issues are still being discussed. Ford says it won't effect the number of 13 scholarships. Frank : "Is your roster set for next season." Ford: "We are recruiting every day." On Goodwin and French, "Those guys will be making their decision very, very soon." Actually Ford used 'very' twice describing Goodwin's surgery. "very, very minor". And "he is fine". Not sure if he misspoke, but he said South Florida was in the Orlando Tourney. I'm guessing he confused Siena and S. Florida. He has talked to Pitino, not about a game next season, but says he would entertain a game in the future.
  17. Golden, Francis and Sherod all graduated this month from Richmond. It will be interesting to see if they come back as Graduate Students or skip out as GT.
  18. Very interesting possibility, from Sports Illustrated. Selected paragraphs are below. https://www.si.com/college/2020/05/19/colleges-shift-academic-calendars-sports-impact-ncaa The academic calendar is shifting at American universities as we speak. Will the athletic calendar shift with it? On Monday, Notre Dame announced that it is starting its fall semester early, canceling fall break and ending the semester before Thanksgiving—something athletic director Jack Swarbrick indicated to Sports Illustrated was a possibility last week. That came a day after South Carolina announced a similar move, sending students home before Thanksgiving and then conducting finals remotely. Creighton and Marquette, among other schools, are also condensing their fall academic schedules. Expect more and more universities to follow that trend in the near future. The logic is solid: Students coming and going en masse from campus are at increased risk of bringing the COVID-19 virus back with them, and Thanksgiving break roughly coincides with the beginning of flu season and what many expect to be a spike in coronavirus cases. This is a decision that puts health first and shouldn’t scuttle the semester academically at those schools. But if you apply those changes to the traditional football and basketball seasons, it will have an impact and spur some philosophical debates. If schools want their campuses empty for up to two months, do the sports teams stay and play during that dead time? Are the student-athletes beholden to provide TV inventory for the masses while the non-athlete students have all gone home? Basketball faces a bigger challenge. Its season is just cranking up in late November, with a host of marquee tournaments and neutral-site games clustered around Thanksgiving and many more to follow in the first half of December. Attendance already is quite likely to be limited, but imagining a Big Ten/ACC Challenge played at campus sites with almost no students (other than the ones in uniform) is sobering.
  19. According to the video, he is 6' tall with a size 14 shoe and projected to be 7 ft. Nice job by Frank Cusumano on the interview.
