  1. Yes, it was up to a billion right before the 2008 crash and several bad investments that caused some worry at the end of Biondi's tenure. I'm sure it's easier to fund raise from fat cats when their own porfolios are way up over the last few years.
  2. Endowment is up to 1.5 billion per recent message from Pestello.
  3. I think the biggest question for this team is at point guard. Ford essentially handed Collins the keys and gave him more leeway (while screaming constantly at him) than any other frosh of that class. Bell, Hargrove, and Jimerson all got buried on the bench at certain points. Never Collins. He was great as a frosh, and this year improved in the turnover category (A/T ratio improved from 1.7 to 2.8). Otherwise he was the same guy. His splits, from 2020 to 2021 were not much improved (37/36/56) vs. (40/24/67). He played basically the same (31mpg) this year to last if you take out the URI injury-game. He can be tenacious on D, but also can struggle against bigger guys. If Nesbitt can handle the point, I think the best lineup is probably Nesbitt, Thatch, Perkins, Okoro, and Linßen. If they need to go smaller, Hargrove, Williams, or Strickland for the German. My hunch is that Ford will keep his loyalty to Collins. Which is fine, if Collins improves. I love watching Collins play. He's a blur and an amazing passer and tough as nails. He's the captain of a top 50 offense. Ford needs to recognize that there are other guys who deserve court time if Collins continues as a low-volume, inefficient scorer.
  4. If you put Yuri more in the 15-20mpg range, and played DJ more, along with J-Good, as duel PGs, I think the team has a higher ceiling. Yuri is a pure PG, but there were too many games where we could have used more scoring and more length on D. Jacobs had the best basketball body on the team. I'll say it again: Ford mismanaged it. DJ should have gotten more of Yuri's minutes last year and this year. Ford was always willing to give Yuri the keys and Jacobs has a higher ceiling as a player. I think Ford is enamored with Yuri's leadership, toughness, and passing. I get it. I love Yuri too. Jacobs didn't have a great motor and got disciplined for something in Feb 2020. Also seemed like the kind of player who didn't appreciate getting yelled at constantly.
  5. I think most of these posts are missing the point. Ford mis-managed DJ, who probably should have gotten some of Jimmerson and Yuri's minutes. Yuri was allowed to make mistakes and learn from them. DJ made mistakes and was yanked. DJ brought defense, rebounding, shooting, and ballhanding. Jimmerson brought.... shooting. Look, I love all of our guys, but DJ should be pissed, and smart high-majors will look at the tape and realize he was one of SLU's best five players when healthy.
  6. SLU can drive to Louisville on Friday!
  7. Yeah, this is dumb. Play the loser of Duke vs. Louisville on Saturday.
  8. I think Travis needs to be not so tight with the bench. If you're going to play Bell 11 minutes, you can play TJ 10 minutes. I'd also like to see Ford throw multiple guys at Lofton: Collins, Thatch, and Jacobs. Lofton basically never comes out of the game. Bonnies are essentially a 6-man team not built to play consecutive days. Osun is the best defender in the conference and the key to their elite D (24th in the country). They need to get him in foul trouble or occupy him so he's not holding a lid on the rim. They are a very good 3-pt shooting team. Let Osun get his inside. Bottom line: we're deeper and better and Perkins needs to score 20. Let's go!
  9. Bills had 11 TO at the first Timeout of the 2nd half. Finished with 13. That was the key to holding off UMass after our shooting cooled down. Overall this was a great win. I would have liked TJ or Jacobs to get some confidence. Linßen, Has, Perkins, and Thatch are playing their best ball right now.
  10. I'd say bare "maximum." You never know what kind of shuffling will happen in the next 9 days, but our NET should get up to 36 or 38 after today, and beating Bona on a neutral court will get us in the top 35. I'm not saying I wouldn't want to win the finals, but I think a close loss to VCU on national TV would be enough. Win two more, and we don't need the committee's judgment. But this was a nice win.
  11. We forget how NET can fluctuate "early" in the season and it includes margin of victory and loss. UMass has only played 14 games so a 33-point victory on a neutral court gave it a NET bump from 129 to 109. I'm assuming that's why our NET went up 3 spots to 40 without playing a game. I still think the Bills need to win today and tomorrow. But I'm more confident now that winning those two games probably means an at-large bid. We're now 40th in KenPom as well.
  12. It's a tough slog for Dayton to win 3 games in three days. Davidson is a great draw for them: soft team, offensive-minded, no good bigs. I can't see Dayton holding up to the pressure of VCU on a third straight day.
  13. Yes. I mean, VCU has been a more successful program for 15 years, but BC was original Big East and now ACC. Huge media market. No other power conference hoops in Boston. Tons of prep talent within 3 hours. And selling kids on playing Duke, UNC, Syracuse, etc..
  14. BC should hire Schmidt. I think he went there. They're not hiring Mooney. Rhodes may also get a look.
  15. Let me update these chances: Bills lose in Quarterfinals: 0% chance to make NCAA tourney.
  16. Rooting interests today: Lasalle over St. Joes Fordham over GW NC State over Notre Dame Minnesota over Penn St. Why is Mizzou an 8 seed? 6 Q1 wins, but their NET and kenpom are below SLU's. So lame. I would love to play them in the 8/9 game.
  17. Nobody is conceding. People are just speculating about the odds. Sure, winning the conference tourney gets us a bid. That's true of every team in a conference. It's really a shame that the refs blew the VCU game. Otherwise this team would maybe be looking at a 7 seed if they won the tourney.
  18. Assuming Friday is against UMass, that won't move the NET much. Saturday against the Bonnies could provide a nice bump. Maybe to the 37-39 range. Then a loss to VCU might hold us in the top 40. Still very tight. Gotta wonder if Ford would schedule another game next week against a team like Memphis if the team has a NET of 38 and 8 days off.
  19. Yes, depending on the factors by which the Committee decides these things. The obsessive, emotional reaction on the board in general about the Committee and lack of fairness is not borne out by empirical measure.
  20. The committee just doesn't think that way. VCU may also lose today and get bounced by a George-Mason team on Friday and be on the outside.
  21. There are two paths: 1. Win A-10 Tournament 2. Beat U-Mass. SLU enters A-10 Tourney seeded anywhere between 3 and 6. Will need to win potential Thursday game, Friday game, and Saturday game against Bonnies or VCU. Three more wins, including a Quad 1 victory next Saturday, gives SLU a NET between 30-35. A loss in the finals to SBU, VCU, or Richmond won't drop the NET more than a slot or two.
  22. J-Good, French, and Perk combine for about 85 min/game this year. It was higher last year. I can see 25 of those going to Okoro, and the rest spread between Thatch, Jacobs, Hargrove, Strickland, and Bell. If Bell remains in essence the third big and Ford mostly plays one big at a time, it may pose a problem.
  23. VCU up to 31 in NET. Richmond down to 60. They're only dancing if they win the A-10 tourney.
  24. Looking back at the stats, Dayton outscored us by 8 at the line, drew 23 fouls while committing 15, and outrebounded us by 2. We're a more physical team that didn't play like it. I expect Thatch to play more. I hope Jacobs is mended and breaks out. Crutcher, granted, destroyed us in last game, but we have the better player in Goodwin. He is a good passer and Dayton has shooters. I hope our rotations are better. Bottom line, they lost to URI last night, they're 7-6 in league. Bills need to play well, but they're a fringe top 100 team.
