  1. That is because you are giving the tweet a negative interpretation, you could as easily see the tweet as someone affirming the "stay at home" route.
  2. I think you will win that bet Jimbo.
  3. The truth is cheeseman, that I obviously think differently than you do, and therefore I may be able to come to conclusions (right or wrong) that are hard for you to make. Do you know for a fact that Hassan French is a kid that just wants to party? By the way, kindly acknowledge the fact that I am willing to accept I may be wrong in reaching the conclusions I reach.
  4. This is clear to me about Hasahn French: he is methodical and thorough. He is not someone to make his mind on the spot, he insisted in going through his visits as he had planned, and we should not be surprised if he takes his time to carefully consider what his likes vs dislikes are for each and every one of the programs he visited, and then to compare his findings to what he wants and his goals. When this kid makes a decision it will be a well thought out decision or so I think. It will be an honor to have someone like that choosing our program.
  5. The issue I see is that (sometimes) if I have posted anything, or (always) if I have written a post and then not posted it, whenever I try to post again in the same thread, the old post is still inside my posting window. What I do is to simply delete it and write the new post.
  6. I gladly spend money in subscribing the PD because I think it is important to have a newspaper in our city that provides some availability of local news. Besides that, it is important to me personally to feel I am a part (however small and insignificant) of this community, and getting the St. Louis newspaper and magazines are a part of this.
  7. Tea leaves reading and rumor interpretation, that is what you get Taj. If you do not like it, the real question becomes: what is your concept of reality? If you want some information right now, how can it be reality? It has not happened yet . Dr. B advised everyone not to go pis_ing in their pants. Did you not read that disclosure he made as part of his post?
  8. Oh no, that is not it. It is fun to have fun.
  9. Ah, the fascinating sport of reading tea leaves and interpreting rumors...
  10. I do not think Dr. Pestello is getting advice from Llamas, lions or polar bears. However whoever he got advice from in this regard, he just nodded his head up and down and signed the contract. Now that he is getting a backlash questioning the new mascot, he is rapidly turning tail and running to get things redone (at probably increased cost). This is not good for someone in his position, when he makes up his mind he should stick with it. This is one thing Biondi had no trouble at all with, the problem is that Biondi did not get any advice from anyone that did not agree with him in the first place. In other words seeking consensus is fine, turning around when you get negative comments is not.
  11. Tongue in cheek of course. Ford's statement "I know where we finished. We won't finish there again" could also mean they could finish below last years' results, mathematically speaking.
  12. Yes, but he had Crews for a coach also.
  13. Two very different things HoosierPal. I have puzzled a lot about the origin of the St. Louis meaning for the word "hoosier" (the non Indiana native meaning). All I can think of is that during the civil war St. Louis must have been garrisoned with Indiana troops engendering a lot of resentment from the local people or portions of the local people, to the point of making the word "hoosier" a put down. If I am wrong in this interpretation of the origins of the derogatory St. Louis meaning for the word "hoosier" please provide clarification. Thank you.
  14. To hsmith19. Personally, I think too many people try to conform to popular dictums, as expressed in the press and the media. I think it is liberating to be able to feel comfortable within your own skin and within your own means and be able to shut down the popular pressure to conform. From that point of view I think it is a good thing, a very good thing indeed. For example, your decision to be an urban pioneer and act on it should be quite liberating to you, despite any disappointments that you know you will encounter in the way. It is a way to say to others I do what I say I will do, and will continue doing it. A very Martin Luther (Reformation era) and Martin Luther King (contemporary) thing to do. Taking a step to be you, instead of a faceless follower of slogans is always a good thing.
  15. The interpretation of tweets is likely to be (or become) a scholarly subject similar to the interpretation of the most obscure passages of the Bible, or the interpretation of the intentions of the Fed. I do not think we should sweat about it. Despite the disaster wrought by Crews, we are a good program with a good coach, nice facilities, and very highly ranked players who have committed to SLU or are red shirts. French has to see us as a real opportunity to get a lot of play time and to shine alongside others like Goodwin. I have no idea what the attraction of UMass may be to him, but I think we are a very attractive program to him.
  16. Bring it on, hope it happens as he says.
  17. I must confess that I do have fun here and there, and that I do love this board, good and bad, all of it. The ones I object to have been placed in ignore (Tilkowsy or however you spell it is basically it)
  18. I am afraid that I am mostly serious in what I post here. However, as I just mentioned, if what I say does not fit you, just discard it. As Taj mentioned, I can be taken as a ______ (your own blank to fill any way you wish), or as a source of knowledge. Your choice.
  19. Actually it is not that kind of burger that I am serving here, and it is not something from the coo coo's nest either. In fact our esteemed Senator Claire McCaskill has been known to state it this way (this is a loose approximation of what I remember she told us the last time she was running): "We live in a day and age of proliferation of media and media based information where people read the news for affirmation not for information." So there. You are following the way the bulk of the population treat news if you discard anything that does not affirm your beliefs. It does not matter what the news may actually be; if it fits you (plural you) wear it, otherwise discard it. Of course this creates a wide opening into the world of spinning, really large scale spinning. Perhaps Disney's dictum: "Dream, dream, and your dream will come true." should be updated to a more current and appropriate version of: "Spin, spin, and your dream will come true"... or not. What a crazy world it has become. Oh, and by the way JohnnyJumpUp, I loved that movie.
  20. William Iken I think the chosen one has lost sight of the fact that we have been competing much better and obtaining higher ranking players than we used to do before Ford became our HC. I do not think we are giving them any money to come here, but the fact is that we are attracting more higher ranking players into SLU than we used to. I think this is good.
  21. GMan Alum, as you will find out sooner or later journalism is a profession where accuracy and reality have little to do with what is actually written and published. A good rule of thumb: if it does not agree with what you think just discard it. This may not achieve much in terms of its wide world effect, but it will certainly make you much happier. I am referring to the Athlon magazine.
  22. I always liked Dr. Pestello;s thinking and pronouncements, one reason for this is that he follows what our faith says about these issues: all men and women are equal in the eyes of God and no one should vilify them for being different in some way. He has done this despite severe criticism coming from every direction and is doing it again. I fully support his point of view.
  23. It is good to be ranked 115 by WSJ, I cannot see the table of rankings since I am not a subscriber to WSJ, but it is still very good.
  24. OK Billy Ken SLU and apparently Louisville took different paths 20 years ago ending where we both are now. You cannot understand why this happened. I would like to give you a name and let you ponder the ramifications. The name is Biondi.
  25. Sulfan not sure if I agree with having to wait a full year to evaluate Ford. We all agree that our prospects for this year are not very good. Well, IF the team performs significantly better than we all expect, we may have a reason to feel that Ford has made a real difference. This is only IF mind you. If they do not perform better than expected I think we still have to give Ford the extra year to show what he can do with the 2017-18 team.
