  1. So, Tilmon is leaving Illinois, might go to SLU or Mizzou, and the SLU and Mizzou fans are the ones that look like dumbasses? This guy really seems in touch with the situation.
  2. Old Guy typing = Nero fiddling Glad you're so happy while the city I love continues it's trek toward irrelevance.
  3. So, the folks that are opposed to public funding of this soccer stadium constantly throw out studies that were done by experts. These studies typically back their position concluding that public financing for stadiums is a bad investment. Then, a guy with a PhD who studies these stadium issues in far more depth and with far more experience and knowledge than any of us would says that this is a good deal for the City and that people should vote for it. Keep in mind, this guy normally finds that public financing is a bad deal. This time, he concludes that its a good deal. Despite their love for these studies, suddenly, when a expert reaches a conclusion contrary to what they want, these guys now want to criticize this particular study. Let's be consistent gents. You can't lean on studies that were done on other stadium projects and then ignore the one that was done on this project. City residents: Vote "Yes" on 1 & 2.
  4. That's what I was hinting at. I wonder who GloryDays was talking to?
  5. Tatum, a 19 year college student who goes to a school in North Carolina, was hanging out at PBR on a Sunday evening? Guess its possible isn't going to anymore classes if he knows he's in the NBA next year.
  6. If he ends up at Illinois State with Milik, maybe it could be the start of laying the groundwork for a pipeline of guys Ford doesn't want anymore.
  7. My god father was on the team (John Cordia). Someone needs to let all those folks out there that say we don't have the history that some other schools do that we ranked ahead of Creighton & Dayton.
  8. Yeah. I was sad to see that K-State is continuing to succeed. Weber gets too many of our local kids. It's a shame he's so likeable, otherwise, I'd hate him more. Even if he got fired at K-State, I'd be worried he'd land at SIU-C or MoState and continue torment us on the recruiting trail.
  9. I agree that sports teams don't draw new residents. I don't want this particular sports team to come to town to draw new residents. I want this sports team to come for the residents that are already here. So much of the dissent for these Propositions is about the sting we all still have from the Rams leaving. However, not doing a good deal simply because you got burned by a previous bad deal is not smart. Any good businessman evaluates deals individually and doesn't allow past business dealings to affect his current business relationships. This is a good deal. The stadium will pay for itself if the team is a success. The team will be a success. It will be around for years. I guarantee there is no idiotic escape clause in the lease like Kroenke had. Let's not let this good deal go, because we recently got burned by Kroenke. If we do, then we will have let him hurt St. Louis twice.
  10. Agree again. If I didn't buy my Billiken tickets, I would probably take that money and put it into taking a trip somewhere. Then the money would end up somewhere in the Carribean. It is not guaranteed that the money would stay local. Also, those studies don't look at the tax money from the players', coaches', and other staff's salaries.
  11. +10000 I hope you're wrong, but I fear you may be right. The worst argument that I have heard from seemingly intelligent folks is that this is only being done to benefit millionaires. That's crazy. This is being done to benefit the City. The opponents need to get over what happened with Kroenke and realize that this is a different situation. Another absurd argument out there is that the City and State are in a financial mess because of giving money to these stadiums. The City and State are in a financial mess because of their complete inability to bring new business and keep existing business. Part of the problem is the attitude that exists that you can't possibly give a business any incentive to come here or to stay here. That's working out pretty well, isn't it? Businesses seem to not be able to leave St. Louis fast enough and everyone blames that on the Dome!!! INSANE. St. Louis will not turn the corner until this attitude reverses and was see that businesses leave where they are and head to wherever they get the best deal. So, let's stand on our principles people until this is a ghost town. I hope we all keep in touch from whatever other City we find jobs in.
  12. An MLS team will be successful in St. Louis. I will buy season tickets to the MLS team when it arrives. The MLS is on the rise and the NFL appears to be in decline. Look at the NFL's ratings dive last year. If this stadium deal gets done, I think we might look back and say that we were lucky to get out of the NFL and into MLS at just the right time. The owners are putting up a $150 million expansion fee and have agreed to pay the $150 to $200 million remaining on the stadium costs after the City's $60 million. I truly think they need this money to make this happen. If we take a chance on the idea that the owners will pony up the money, we will be without a team. The MLS will give the expansion franchise(s) to other cities. The use tax will take the funds for this tax increase right out of the ticket sales on the stadium. I truly believe that the team will be a success. So, I also truly believe that the use tax will fund the City's $60 million completely on its own. Therefore, the City won't lose any funds that should be going elsewhere. The City of St. Louis and surrounding region has lost way to many businesses or potential businesses to the old curmudgeon attitude that you shouldn't provide any tax incentive for businesses to come to or stay in St. Louis. Remember the Chinese import air hub that we were going to get until politicians shot down those tax breaks. I think Chicago got that after our politicians "turned it down." Let's not lose another opportunity.
  13. If Gillman is not graduating, then I apologize for starting the past two pages. However, I will say that players graduating in three years at SLU seems to be much more common that at other universities. Plus, Gillman is a smart kid.
  14. I hope Underwood keeps his promise to concentrate recruiting efforts on the Chicago area. That would be fine by me. We'll just have to settle for the scraps left in southern Illinois.
  15. Since Gillman is a senior graduate transfer situation, I wonder if he is looking for somewhere to land before committing to transferring. I don't know if the situation exists where Ford can allow him to search for a new school while still under scholarship. If this is possible, I would keep an eye on another transfer possibly developing.
  16. BTW, does anyone else find the Underwood hiring odd? Maybe it was discussed on a different thread, but the criticism of Ford at OK St. was not winning in the tournament. Underwood goes to OK St. for one season, loses in the first round of the tournament, and Illinois wants him to, and successfully gets him to, switch over. He is 2-2 in NCAA first round games and has an over all tournament record of 2-4. He's only been a Div.1 head coach for 4 seasons, three of which were in the Southland Conference. Seems a far cry from hiring Brad Stevens away from the Celtics like some of their alumni thought could happen. What is Illinois seeing in this guy?
  17. I hope Jamal cashed in on his situation. I'm thinking big bump in pay, plus a guarantee for a few years.
  18. So, Tatum went to Duke to make a run at a championship in his one year of college. In the end, he only has one NCAA tournament will more than the Billikens this year. I'm not saying that he made the wrong call. He seems like a nice kid. I also don't have any particular hatred of Duke. Just interesting that after all that was made of his going to Duke, they only got one tournament win over a 15 seed.
  19. I'm worried right now that Tate will leave to join Martin at Mizzou. If that happens, then bye-bye Gordon.
  20. I agree with you about the class still filling up and SLU still turning people away. That's going to happen regardless. What I'm worried about is that they will be filling up on lesser applicants, because the stronger applicants will want to go to a school that is not on probation. I don't think there is any doubt that it will play a role in the thought process of potential applicants.
  21. I P5 that is a dumpster fire like Mizzou that sees that Ford just appears to have turned around a dumpster fire like SLU quickly and that knows he would bring Gordon and Thatch with him might just be intrigued. Like SLU72 said, doubtful, but still possible.
  22. There's nothing wrong with the SSM merger. It is a great deal for the Med School. However, the article mentioned problems after the merger that were associated with the merger as being some of the issues for which we were put on probation. For instance, I believe it suggested that students were being supervised by SSM doctors that are not school faculty. Apparently, that is a no-no. My point was the those problems arose with Pestello in charge. The great scape goat of many on this board was gone by then.
