  1. It makes me question whether or not he is doing the Tweets. If the Tweets are authentically Pestello then he deserves a lot more followers. As for the mascot, clearly they did not focus group this before the debut. They should have had students in on the design process. I think they could keep the two-tone if they lighten the gray. I am OK with the open mouth, but they need to fix the one eye closed/one big blue eye open look. Just have two eyes open.
  2. By SLU standards, they definitely are. As for the style, I hope I did not build this game up too much, but if anyone is thinking they may pass on this game because it is against a Division III opponent, they may want to think again.
  3. I assumed that there was something there...I may be the only one I know who has never seen Footloose or The Titantic, so those references are always lost on me. Thanks though.
  4. I am guessing that there is humor or wisdom in this post, but I cannot find it.
  5. I am not sure where you read this, but Greenville is on the opposite end of the Christian Evangelical colleges from say Bob Jones. Students do not have to sign a statement of community principles...students can dance...they can live in co-ed dorms...students do not even have to be Christian. Greenville is not going to challenge SLU at all, but they are on year two of playing a version of the Grinnell System which emphasizes both run and gun and perimeter shooting. If Greenville brings the System, they will play a full court press and may even substitute 3-4 players at every break. Grinnell and Greenville led Division III in most offensive statistics a season ago. And, if they are able to run the system adequately, they may score 80-90 points or more on SLU, though as much as the system may be fun to play, it generally does not lead to wins against better teams in Division III. SLU may score 150 points if they choose. Again, SLU will destroy Greenville, but this has the potential to be a fun game to watch.
  6. The Donius Student Center is very nice for sure. I know one thing they did to bolster enrollment was to move to Division II, increase the number of sports and to market themselves as an institution with a proud heritage of athletics. Maryville fields teams in Lacrosse, Men's and Women's Golf, Wrestling, Cross Country and Track and Field, Swimming and Diving, Bowling and Tennis in addition to more traditional college sports. That is a lot of sports for a school of 2,700 students.
  7. According to reports SLU submitted to the Department of Education for 2013-2014, 93% received scholarship or grant aid with an average award of $18K. This excludes transfer students and student who returned after a break in their studies. Only 53% borrowed using federal student loans. That surprises me. SLU students are wealthier than I expected.
  8. They could not have always served beer right? The concession stand used to be operated by students, right? I am not sure how I missed it but I guess I was too focused on the mediocre pizza truck... In regards to soccer, I took a quick look at the A-10 conference today...it looks like this could be one of the worst seasons for A-10 soccer. I know it is early, but has anyone looked closely at how the other teams are doing?
  9. Time will tell but amenities obviously play a big role in recruiting and retaining students. Build or die!
  10. Washington University enrolled a record freshmen class: http://www.stltoday.com/news/local/education/washington-university-celebrates-largest-freshman-class-on-move-in-day/article_db898ad0-68b8-59a0-9d18-b672b7598316.html And a quick thought on the Illinois story: the recruitment of Illinois in general and Chicago in particular by Missouri has been a big story lately, but it goes back a long time--at least 20 years--and represents less than 2 percent of full-time traditional college aged students at public institutions. Not that you suggested otherwise. Missouri schools, both public and private, are definitely much more affordable for Illinois residents based on the sticker price. Harder to know when you factor in the discount rate. http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2016/08/26/us/college-student-migration.html?smid=tw-nytimes&smtyp=cur&_r=1
  11. Not a bad game...a great second half by the Billikens. 1,1XX in attendance...not bad for a holiday weekend. The officials were wearing headsets...is that new this year? Also, they serve beer now. That was a good call though I wish they still had a pizza truck.
  12. DACA exists but the injunction stopped the expansion...shoot, failed to follow my own advice.
  13. He honestly does not care where the players come from, he just knows that this gets others posting.
  14. The Federal laws do not require colleges or university to verify immigration status. The student may have a temporary status through the DACA program. Otherwise, I hope this is the end of the conversation. The troll has found that others have jumped on the suggestion that St. Louis may no longer have the talent to field a national champion caliber team and that SLU no longer recruits enough of the be best players to test that theory. The goal of the troll is to get people to respond. I am going to try that block idea. Thanks for the tip.
  15. Glad to see all the regular posters back again. There are not of many of you but I really enjoy reading what you guys have to say. Lets all agree to ignore the troll. Go Bills!
  16. Looks like SLU played Jefferson College to a 0-0 tie last night in exhibition play. I did not get to go and I generally do not read to much in to exhibitions for all the obvious reasons, but on paper, a 0-0 tie against a community college with the Jefferson College keeper registering a mere two saves... Did anyone see it?
  17. ST. LOUIS – Saint Louis men’s soccer announced its spring match schedule today. The Billikens will play four of their five exhibitions at Robert R. Hermann Stadium, with the highlight being a friendly against Saint Louis FC at Hermann Stadium on Sunday, April 17. 2016 Spring Schedule Saturday, April 2 – at Xavier, 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 9 – vs. Missouri State, 6 p.m. Sunday, April 17 – vs. St. Louis FC, 1 p.m. Saturday, April 23 – vs. Washington University, 7 p.m. Saturday, April 30 – vs. Jefferson College, 7 p.m. Home games at Robert R. Hermann Stadium in bold Dates and times subject to change
  18. That is not the norm. In this case Greenville plays the super up-tempo Grinnell-style offense which focuses on three pointers and full court defense with lots of substitions. You score a lot and give up a lot.
  19. Sorry, I said track but I meant the walkway. Have fans enter the stands from the east side to push the stands as close to the field as possible.
  20. Even the University of Nebraska Omaha has a better soccer stadium. I would like to see SLU improve the seating on the East end of the stadium, installing permanent stands that are adjacent to the field. Move the track to the East side of the stands.
  21. The stadium definitely needs an upgrade. SLU also needs a way to get students back to the games.
  22. Joe Clarke was fired in his final season at SLU, right? His Billikens were 5-10-3 in his final season, losing in the first round of the Conference USA tournament, but he made it to the tourney in all but one of other season dating back to 1983 when he took over for Harry Keogh. He did have a few first round losses, but also had a few third round appearances and a Final Four. The standards certainly have changed at SLU.
