  1. McGinty was the Crews of the pitch, but Doogie was great and so was Warming. Donovan was a three time conference coach of the year; Warming took the Bills to the 97 College Cup…two out of three pretty darn good.
  2. I don’t get this drive to always be local. That is a bit micro - didn’t Larry B want to move SLU from a commuter school to a University with national prominence? Why can’t our recruiting strategy be the same way? The Mid-Atlantic is a hot bed of great men’s and women's high school hoops with great programs plus you can leverage the fact their parents can see them play at Mason, VCU, Richmond, GW, etc. Let’s put the tentacles out there! Don’t we want to broaden our scope as more than a regional university? I’m sure the new coach will drive some spikes into the local coaching tracks - these relationships take time - May wouldn’t have hired her if he had any worries about her ability to network.
  3. The dinging has subsided since we won the game - but it wouldn’t have stopped since then had that lapse cost us the W. They don’t talk about the Jim Marshall play much anymore, in part because the Vikings won that game…
  4. Great point, Roy. Do you think that has changed with the neo-Millennials coming in and their overall attitude with authority or has this been the same over the generations, ie maybe Wooden didn’t have to coach up Lew but he had definite issues with Walton (representing the counterculture)…
  5. Not to be a devils advocate here, but why would Ford pursue someone if he wasn’t a good fit? Maybe not in a basketball or team culture sense but a system sense; Ken Niamatololo isn’t going to recruit a pro-style QB to Annapolis because they run the option there. Wouldn’t you want “system guys?” Or do you think Ford is cocky enough to say “bring him here and I’ll learn him my system?” A Penny for your thoughts on the ex-Memphis now ex-SLU guy and his former coach Ford.
  6. Jerry Rice - Mississippi Valley State it happens in all sports - on the flip side - some of the biggest busts in basketball have come from P5 schools. Oden, Hasheem Thabeet, Sam Bowie, etc.
  7. Censorship is a dangerous thing, tho. OP has a long line of credibility in his defense, as well as the first amendment. Taking the digital sharpie out to redact isn’t what our country is about. This isn’t an Info Wars type of claim, either. If Schaz is the Deepthroat of the board, I’ll be damned, but he has not led us astray in the past.
  8. Lol that’s funny. Haven’t been to CoMo since year 1 of the switch. Maybe they needed a full term to improve… but I haven’t stopped laughing since reading this… and that was before I walked into church this morning… getting some looks in the choir loft.
  9. It’s also funny to think MU’s co-eds can stack up against their SEC Cohorts, especially at places like Oxford, MS and Athens, GA. Corn fed hosses versus sundresses. This guy sleeps upside down.
  10. I was there months earlier when PJPII came to town If anyone can find that game for the Billiken Vault, I’d love to see what that atmosphere was like!
  11. This is why you cannot find film footage of the 1999 TWA dome game anywhere online. You are more likely to find the other Zapruder film than the broadcast of that game. I’ve looked.
  12. If that first game happens to be against a DII or NAIA opponent, then you may have a very valid point/concern.
  13. Sounds like a law firm. Agree that we need to just take it a game at a time with Perkins and let his body and his mental approach to the game slowly get back to where he was. Definitely not an overnight thing - the speed of the game will get there over time - this shouldn’t be rushed by the coaching or athletic training staff.
  14. My mistake for not clarifying - he was an assistant for a number of years at Western KY and Oakland Raiders before USD. Good call, Compton!
  15. Possibly third best program in SD after State and UCSD. Good Catholic school, though. Rejuvenated the coaching career of Jimmy Harbaugh, let’s see what it does for Slicked Back Steve.
  16. Yuri, while leading the nation in assists and APG, also had the dubious distinction of leading the nation in turnovers with 138. I guess that may happen, like the HR leader who also leads the league in strikeouts. The message to Yuri should be to keep doing what you are doing, with a little more emphasis on ball security. Go bills.
  17. Steve Lavin to San Diego. Interesting move.
  18. Oscar Robertson perhaps. Edit - nope. Assists weren’t an official college stat when O was playing… unfortunate. He did average (as a pro) more than 10 assists per game a few years in 61 and then from 63-66. Amazing. 9.5APG for his career.
  19. Two things can be true at the same time, right? Both happened last night. Self had a win-one-for-the-Gipper halftime speech and Carolina couldn’t match the body blows. Kansas looked like they spend a little too much time at Pat O’Briens Saturday night in the first half. They entered the second like a hurricane. Self is a crook, but Lord he can coach.
  20. Truth. I’d say we should turn Conklin Summers into McCormick Summers. That guy is a beast. Great touch underneath and defensively his presence in the lane made Carolina alter shots or kick back for a lower percentage attempt. We have no one like him even on our radar.
  21. He’s recycling the Justin Love quotes from 22 years ago…at least he recycles. Missing Billy Packer and his Wake Forest anecdotes.
  22. Tonight’s game best enjoyed on mute with the speed of the modern game really passing Raftery by in real time.
  23. And John Matuszak was 34 when he played Sloth… poor guy. Died four years later.
