14-4 is a tall order for this team, or any Ford Team.

Last five seasons, conference record is 49-33.

    21-22, 12 & 6

    20-21, 6 & 4

    19-20, 12 & 6

    18-19, 10 & 8

    17-18, 9 & 9

And each of these teams was "the deepest we have ever had".  And BTW, I'm not big on excuses.

I agree 100 percent but that is only 2 games better than the best season and I do not think they will be 14-4 I believe is will be another 12-6 conference season.  The 2 blow outs this season concerns me and not protecting home court against Boise State.

We need to start beating non-cupcake teams by double digits to improve the computer rankings.

As much as losing to Auburn & Boise St in winnable games sucked, I'd guess our NET is actually hurt worse by getting destroyed by Maryland and Iona.

The NET seems to consider highly blow out wins and losses.

I am sure when the selection committee considers an at large bid they do not want to select at team that could get blown out in the first in both halves.

For an at large I think they look at the last 10 games and last season it would show 2 blow out losses to Davidson.

I do not trust this team to not get blown out on the road again, it has happened twice this season.

Providence beats ranked Marquette. That plus drake were officially locked for an auto bid.

Probably if they finish 14-4 in the conference with no home losses and going to the finals in the A10 tournament.

What concerns me the most is potential blow out losses on the road.

Our team is entertaining and coach Ford has them in contention again.

We have two or three groups of fans at the moment: 1) apathetic if it rains or snows they watch on TV

    2) fair weather: if we win three games they show up if we lose two they stay home

    3) the really dedicated who ***** on the Billiken Messsge Board but think buying a Tshirt is a major donation

    4) dedicated season ticket holders that goes to most of the games.  I sit around a lot of those folks.  I complain on this site but I am doing better.

3 seasons ago at the Dayton game the people next to us that hardly showed up did not go to the game because of the prediction of snow.  I asked them when the showed up the next home game and they told me the weather.

  5. Another electric home game.

The crowd participation made it electric.

We stood for the entire time on the defensive end the last 4 minutes.

The loss against Boise was tough but the participation of the fans was outstanding.  Some good feelings about the team and coaches was lost but the games are fun to attend.

We won, came back to beat a good team and earned a quality win.  I do not understand comments that it should not have been that close when most fans knew this was going to be close.

In my opinion Drake had nothing left in the tank in the last 4 minutes of the game.

Giving up wide open 3 point shots is a concern but I will just enjoy attending the game for now.

The game looked like it was going to be a loss right until the end. Drake got ahead before the half and stayed in the lead for the rest of the game until the last couple of minutes when we got ahead. For some reason they could not get together to get their lead back and lost the game. Hard played game, they were pretty good, the refs were refs as usual, and we managed to win at the end. Feels good to do that. More tomorrow after I can see the box score, it is late tonight.

It was a fun night at the end the crowd was outstanding we were loud.

  7. We had a foul to give with 4.6 even though it worked out on the line they should have fouled again before that shot.

Jimerson slipping all over the floor like last season.

    Pickett has disappeared.

Perkins and Okoro have been great.

Fred and TJ playing defense they need to encourage the rest of the team to do that.

A fan made the half court shot and a kid hit the put shot.

I am sitting by Drake fans and I don’t like it.

    So the answer is yes.

I respect your feelings about the coach and mediocrity.

When I finally took a step back and let my anger go of the way the team lost to Iona and Maryland, blowout and the free throw meltdown at Auburn I realized that this team’s players are not as good as I thought they were.

I think Okoro will look better playing against A10 teams and so will other players.

The tough non conference schedule showed exactly what the team is this season It’s just not good enough to beat those teams.  Boise State is 9-2 so it’s not a bad loss but it is disappointing.

The team is composed of a lot of likable players such as Thatch, Jimerson, Hargrove, Okoro, Forrester, Perkins, and Collins and I wish them great success and will enjoy the games again for those players and likable coaches.

It does not fix mediocrity but I really like coach Ford’s personality and I have really liked coach Tate being part of the team.

Following Brian's lead, I reviewed SLU's Pomeroy ratings, which on the kenpom.com website are available beginning with 2002, thereby fully encompassing the last 4 SLU Coaches.  The results:

    Average Pomeroy

    1.  Rick Majerus 107.8;  2.  Travis Ford 110.14, counting this season (61) to date;  3.  Brad Soderberg 115.4;  4.  Jim Crews 142.25.

    Winning Percentage:

    1.  Travis Ford .595;  2.  Rick Majerus .579268;  3.  Jim Crews .578947;  4.  Brad Soderberg  .519.

Now granted this is not an exact science, for example the first 2 years under Jim Crews, including his Interim year, were played with Rick Majerus recruited players, during which Crews' teams went 28-7 and 27-7, with Pomeroy's of 19 and 35, respectively.  The cupboard was barren in Travis Ford's first season, with the Crews recruits having departed, with Ford's first team going 12-21, Pomeroy 273.  But this study does give some perspective.

Conclusion:  Elements of the fanbase, irrespective of hair color, including this poster, need to come off the figurative ledge.  Yes, SLU had a bad week with 2 losses, we don't like what we're seeing and how things are trending.  But this season is far from over, with 2 more non-conference games, the entire 18 game A10 regular season, and the A10 Tournament to go.  SLU has only completed 35.5% of its season.  While this may not be an NCAA Tourney at large season, as many of us expected, Coach Ford's track record at SLU, in terms of wins and losses, shows that better days lie ahead this season. Since the Situation 2 season of '17-'18 was put in the rear view mirror, SLU is 90-44, .672 under Coach Ford.

Let's keep the faith, Billiken Nation.

Good post, the program has been steady under coach Ford but the team cannot get over the top 50 hump.

When posters complain about hitting the big shot has happened many times under Ford at big game.

Lots of big shots on the A10 tournament win is an example.

My issues are the beat downs under Ford the last 2 seasons.

I am off the ledge and I will just enjoy Billiken basketball again and not worry about ratings.

That's where I was at when we hired him too.  You never know some guys gotta be a good fit see Shaka at VCU and Marquette not at Texas.  But others just can't get it done.  I think we have the latter.  Makes me sad because there's not many things I care more about than Billiken basketball and yes I realize the absurdity of that statement.

I am there with you ABomb on how much I am your self described absurdity.

I got too caught up with this is finally the season this team performs like a top twenty team and I got mad when that did not happen.

Its back to reality that this is a team of nice kids and coaches doing their best and their best probably does not get them to the big dance but will probably win 20 plus and have some other big moments like the Memphis win.

  11. While posters have posted solid evidence about coach Ford my belief is that I overrated the quality of the players and that is an issue.

During the bully ball days those players were much tougher than the players on this season’s team.  There were some bad head scratching loses but those teams did not normally get blown out on the road.

It’s time for me to kick back and enjoy the Billikens season and not be disappointed that the team did not play up to my foolish expectations.

  12. What concerns me a lot about Perkins is that his 3 point shot is gone.

In warm ups before the Boise State game he was hitting about a third of his shots he looked bad and it was no surprise he only played 6 minutes.

Another observation before the game was Cisse hitting half of his 3 point shots in practice.  I would like to see what he could do when he is in a game to get a 3 point shot instead of passing the ball inside and turning it over or missing the bunny.
