  1. thanks for the quotes.... creighton would be excellent to have in the league you may have missed some of this since you are new - some of the posters get on here and don't realize who has some real info and then act foolishly and then they don't post. i can name at least 5 posters with good sources of info who have quit sharing because they get fed up with the nonsense.
  2. Agreed - that thread is getting ridiculous. I think we can cut you some slack considering you have produced the most substance on this board during the last couple of months. It is nice to hear some recruiting info especially after the past 9 months we have had to endure. Thanks for all of your hard work Blogman!
  3. My brother-in-law and I are going to the Duke game and then heading to Chapel Hill to see UNC play Long Beach State. Should be a fun trip. Who on here is going to the Duke game? Where are you staying? Is there a SLU pre-game reception? Look forward to seeing some of you there.
  4. I was thinking about you this evening and when you told me back in April that Loe would not be dominant this year.
  5. The Post sucks. My hometown paper back in Indiana is better than the Post and their operation is pretty weak. When I moved here I had a subscription for a month and immediately canceled it; I haven't had a subscription since. My brother-in-law tells me often that if you want to read the story first then pick up the RFT. He is right.
  6. WIU had a meltdown that was SLUesque.
  7. Unfortunately, SLU appears to have already screwed this up. They are very capable of making it worse.
  8. Billikan, I agree. Guy shows a lack of professionalism by coming to the games unprepared. I think Chris Brose would be a nice replacement. I know he said before that he is not looking to push Guy out but I think he would fit in nicely. Maybe his name should be mentioned in the emails suggesting a change in the PA position. I thought he was great when he replaced Guy shortly last year.
  9. Perhaps he will be the go-to guy in the future but there is zero leadership now. Very frustrating to watch.
  10. We really lack leadership which was very apparent this evening. There is no go-to guy on this team.
  11. Agreed. This guy sounds like a moron. Here is what I will say about how RM has handled this MU thing - he has taken it to the media and is getting some attention. I don't know if it will cause a game to surface but at least he has gotten the attention of someone other than us on the board.
  12. The Men's Billiken Basketball Team.....
  13. Figured this much as he was not in the photo shoot. I know McCall, Jordair and Rob missed it. There are two new walk-ons in the pictures. Should be an interesting season.
  14. That's hilarious - Dr. Benofy! Is he still there? His handwritting was that of typed print. (Dr. B - Dr. Benofy taught physics at SLU in the early 90's). I think Dr. B hails from a town ruled by Kilroys and Crimson and Cream if I am not mistaken. Dr. B - are you from IN or just study at IU?
  15. Just having some late night fun here but you said a very good passer and Skip said a great passer. You did in fact change his words.
  16. The "obscene roster turnover" is secondary to growing pains, especially with large class sizes and being bottom-heavy in youth. This will start to fade and even out as the current sophomores get older. These guys want to play because they are decent players that want to contribute and win. These guys are not dumb either, they see the caliber of guys coming in and know that playing time will be harder to come by. These guys don't want to be role players in the current system - they want to be heavy contributors and will go elsewhere to find it. You have a few stars that are established and these guys aren't going away for awhile - the future is pretty clear. Things are looking up for a few reasons: 1. Classes are being balanced by the its own devices. 2. We lost arguably the 9th and 10th players to more playing time - that means our team is getting pretty good and competition for playing time is reigning king (this makes everyone better and helps them develop and improve). 3. We gained a new JJ who will likely be more aggressive and create for the other players. I think this guy will get to the paint and make things happen. I suspect this will work better for the system and players we currently have and incoming. 4. The new JJ has hair consistent with a baller. Instant upgrade. 5. The usual suspects to the 23 win season are coming back and are getting a better supporting cast and possibly some of the usual suspects will be taking a supporting role to the new guys. I am not sure how you came to this conclusion about Jett but I think RM has a better scouting report. RM has been chasing this guy for a year and a half - that has to tell you something. You are putting too much weight into the Scout, et al rankings. Jordan wasn't even position ranked or rated by Scout where Jett at least has a position rank. I am sure you have not seen Jett play more than most so I am pretty sure you have no more additional information to support your claim. I have a suspicion that both RL and neo-JJ will surprise you next year. That said, I am looking forward to next season more than ever.
  17. Would you read it if you are signing as the representative and on behalf of you child? Regardless if you trust or do not trust the seller.
  18. Sounds to me that the parents and the kids should read the contract and ask questions prior to signing. Do you read every contract you sign line-by-line? When you buy a car do you think they are going to discuss all of the possible bad things that can happen or what will void your warranty? No, that takes away from the excitement and the moment. There is some salesmanship going on; I am sure the number of windsprints each day is not discussed to obtain full disclosure.
  19. If these kids were coming to the school for the "school" and not the basketball program then why aren't the Ivy League school breaking into the Final Four every year? The reality of it is this: the majority of basketball players looking to play college ball are not choosing a school, they are choosing a basketball program or a coach (Look at Coach Cal bringing his Memphis recruits with him to UK - UK is a $hitty school academically in comparison but they didn't care). Look at RL - he doesn't know diddly about the academics of SLU but he sure knows the coach. The coach will develop him because he is known to develop bigs for the next level. He chose SLU for the team chemistry but not the chemistry department in Monsanto Hall. These kids all think they are going to the NBA. School/schoolwork is an obstacle or obligation to many of these guys not a privelege or goal. There are some exceptions like the poster-child to all student-athletes in the Lisch kids. As a matter of fact, I am sure how the coeds look is more important than school and plays more of a factor in their decision making than academics. So, you are right - they aren't very smart for not caring about school and the academics and making it a large weight in their decision-making; however, they think their brain is less likely to make them successful than their fade-away or 3-point shot which ultimately is their ticket to the NBA (and they all have some delusions of grandeur in thinking they are NBA bound - but it is a little understood since they have heard they are going to the NBA all their life). One other thing, if the coaching staff is truly an ambassador to the school then shouldn't the school share the blame for kids being "run off" rather than just the head coach. The school is the guarantor of the scholarship not the coach. Also, can you define above "play basketball".
  20. I think there may be few things in play here. First, the AD may be waiting for the semester to end prior to making an official announcement. This would allow JJ to finish his classes without any distractions. If this is the case then I think it is a classy move. Second, I think the AD may be looking for some parity in equalizing the bad news with some good news and doing it in one announcement rather than bringing too much attention to the fact that we had a player leave. Just announcing someone leaving looks bad and I think it takes some of the pressure off the player leaving coupling good news with their departure. I think you are making too much out of pairing these announcements.
  21. Roy, I agree that these individuals are fine people and gave their best to SLU while they played. No doubt that the longtime fans of SLU are proud much like a parent is proud of their child/children. Watching the program take the roller-coaster ride over the years between mediocrity and decency has become the norm. I think what these posters are saying is that mediocrity is a thing of the past or at least what we see as mediocre will be redefined. I appreciate your fandom to the program and willingness to stick it out through thick and thin all these years; however, I don't think we are trending like we used to. Mediocrity will be redefined and our players will be better than they were in the past; because our incoming players are getting better some will leave because of playing time. Of course they want more playing time, they are better, more competitive players who are winners and sitting the bench is not in their persona and is frankly unacceptable. They are competitive and want to win by contributing. It is the nature of the beast. Roy, one other thing. You are digressing from the point of some of the posters by nit-picking some insignificant details in their statement. You have to look at the big picture. I have to say that just because someone is unhappy with their playing time doesn't mean someone has to be blamed or that a wrong-doing has been inflicted. Sometimes the player just isn't happy. It is part of being a competitive program and it makes me happy that we are achieving this level of competition within our program. We will only get better and this is a good sign of better players to come.
  22. You are on pace to hit 2,000 posts in this thread - tonight!
  23. All of these complaints are totally unrelated to the fact that RM is taking us to new heights and is creating a winning program. Complain all you want - fixing his "flaws" will not make this program win more so really it is irrelevant. By the way, sometimes a little destructive reconstruction is good for a stagnant program.
  24. He visited Utah in order to load up on muscle milk, try on a few garments and see where RM made his name known (his way of understanding RM by paying homage to history) on Utah's dime.
