  1. abas, yes, i understand there will be one. probably finalizing details and likely they'll announce it Monday. by the way, REALLY nice job by the SLU Alumni team, Athletic Department, cheerleaders and band in Brooklyn! Shout out to everyone. Great evening at Dr. C's Central Park West apartment building, the Thursday night party at the Brooklyn German Bar, the pre-game party at the Barklays and the nice job with Matt Lauer and the Today Show. Met so many Bills fans Proud to be an alum!
  2. Obviously beating dead horse. But I was at the game yesterday and couldn't wait to get back to St Louis and watch replays to see if my eyes betrayed me and all of us in the SLU section on this play. Fired up TiVo this morning. Just brutal. The announcers were in complete agreement. How does A-10 POY go down lane, get fouled twice, lay prone with no call. A 4/5-point sway in game. JJ probably makes 1-2 free throws and easy 3 is eliminated when Bills forced to play 4 on 5. Ball game. Refs could have called time on the injury, too. Didn't do either. Disappointing neither JC or asst coaches had discussion with refs after the play. I hate when Shaka and others constantly work the refs. But this non-call was so flagrant it demanded strong response. Also surprised reporters didn't ask JC about it post-game (and I read entire script.) Time to get out of this league. Speaking of which, are there any real, quiet conversations going on between powers that be on this subject?
  3. Yes, it's in the Barclays Center. Use Atlantic EmblemHealth entrance on Atlantic Ave.
  4. Right you are. Hate when I hear 21st. Media market is based on number of TV households. The STL metro has larger HH sizes (more families) and fewer singles. So more people, bigger market. Less HH relatively. Misleading. Hope that makes sense. Love the video but would have given both stats. 21 and 18.
  5. Thanks for the info, guys. Now to determine revenue. I've heard the $$ are not guaranteed; may be risk sharing with Fox -- both in ratings and number of teams yearly in NCAA tourney. May be more risk or at least a long number of years to break even -- that's if all schools share revenue equally which is debatable. I still like the NBE for all the obvious reasons but may be more difficult than I thought. Maybe there are others who know specifics of Xavier, Creighton and Butler deals and how FOX deal is structured...
  6. By the way, not doubting at all NBE is the right decision! Just curious what the numbers scenarios look like -- how FOX1 might be tempted to sweeten pie.
  7. Any sense of the numbers? Value of the credits + $2M (or $1M)? Likely NBE revenue scenarios? (Presuming no forfeiture of revenue sharing and SLU gets in tourney 2 of next 3 years, for example?
  8. If I recall correctly, the $2M becomes $1M with a year notice (July.) So $1M would only apply to an invite for 2015-16 season. Otherwise $2M for this fall.
  9. Suppose for a second NBE is ready to expand for 2014-15, either to 12 (if they can agree on a 12th) or to just 11. Either way, the Bills are invited. Hypothetical only. Anyone know the financial implications for SLU? As I recall when the NBE was forming, there were exit fees due if A-10 resignation was not done by July 1. $1M, correct? Plus, we lose a certain number of the NCAA tourney credits. I'm a bit fuzzy on the specifics. But regardless, a lot of money. Now that we're ready to begin year 3 of NCAA tourney credits - and reasonable chance to go even deeper this year -- is the amount of money we'd possibly be leaving on the A-10 table even greater? Harder to FOX1 to find ways to make SLU whole? Is the July 1 date still in play for 2014-15? Any wizards (financial or otherwise!) who know these answers or have done a break-even analysis in NBE? While getting the invite is of course the hardest (and first) order of business, wondering if it is getting harder for SLU to say yes (and FOX1 to help) if invited.
  10. Weird. I only heard Dwayne, too. But I know what I heard in person as did others around me. We all shook our heads. Could there be a PA issue?
  11. Trust me, I'm more concerned about the play on the court, too. Plenty of other threads about that. My concern about Guy is not about him being a terrible announcer. It is about the insult to our player/ambassadors that results from it. If it were you whose name was for four years botched...
  12. Bay Area, About half the nearly sell-out crowd stayed including entire student and band sections. It was understandably more low key than it would have been if Biils won. But nice ceremony. Each of student managers were honored then the five players. They each walked up with their parent(s) and siblings (all in STL from across the US and New Zealand) to shake hands with Jim Crews and Chris May. JC then took the mic and made nice speech honoring the seniors, the band, students, Rick Majerus and fans. DE then took mic and did same, also thanked coaches -- representing the seniors. Very nice. I haven't been critical of Guy Phillips in this forum though he has indeed been awful for years. But must say something now. In addition to above mentioned mistakes, he must have called Dwayne Dwight at least six times last night including twice during the Senior Night ceremony. How does a "professional" like Guy repeatedly botch the name of arguably the team's best player and one of the best Billikens of all time on the last home game of his career in front of his family -- after having FOUR years to get it right? If I'm his mom and dad, I've got to be thinking "...they don't know my son." Friggin' embarassing. And the longer I type this the more angry I'm getting. Could it be that no one from the Athletic Dept has ever thought to bring this to Guy's attention? Are they intimidated? Is Guy's back so protected by Kim Tucci? Or is Guy is aware of the problem but doesn't care to correct it? Someone afraid to fire him? Chris May -- having your PA guy get players' names correct is the most basic thing in that job. All of us make mistakes in life but this is not what this is about. Pathetic. Four years of screwing it up. I wanted to walk on the court after the ceremony and apologize to DE and his family on behalf of the U.
  13. Absolutely right. But I'll take the Beast if I can get it.
  14. Pistol Can you be more specific about the gripes and whether justified? Also whether these are RM-related or go back a dozen years? Thanks!
  15. Congrats, Bomble. Unfortunately, I couldn't rearrange my biz travel to join you and the other DC alums at the game. But I definitely saw your graphic in the NYC sports bar where I watched the game. Very proud moment for me.In a related topic, one other thing I thought was impressive last night was that the the Bills game seemed to be the national game on the NBC Sports Network. The lead-in was the Olympics coverage. At 7pm ET it switched to the Bills/GMU game (at least in the NYC market) and was on virtually every plasma panel in the joint. I didn't even have to ask for the game to be tuned in. There was lots of discussion about the Bills throughout the game by those who already had inkling of Bills' story as well as by a whole new group of admiring fans. Everyone likes quasi-Cinderella, especially in NY. Another reason to be proud of the U.
  16. Absolutely best piece Bernie has written since last year's stories about Rickma's death. Also shows he is following the Bills more closely than casual fan does... ...and is slipping "Saint" past his editors.
  17. At first I thought perhaps their silence was result of being beaten to the story taking place in their own backyard by the out-of-town press. But now too big to ignore. (...or they were goaded into it by McGonigle and Lampkin! ) Glad they're aboard.
  18. then multiple it should be.
  19. Yes, understand she has law degree from SLU School of Law and may have also served as vice-president of Black Law Students Assn on the law school's Student Organizations Executive Board. Not sure about undergrad. I don't know her or the family. But simple Google search returned many stories of her bypassing various volleyball scholarships out of high school to stay home and take care of Jayson who as little guy watched Justin at SLU. Mom went back to school, got law degree later. Jayson seemingly never misses opportunity to recognize the important role she plays in his life. Apparently a remarkable lady. Raised a good young man. Regardless of where he ends up, nice SLU-connected story.
  20. Biondi said no to this. Not exactly sure why. Perhaps others know the story. I don't believe it had anything to do with cost. Ed's family is same class act as he was. Would never say anything about it. Now that Fr. Larry is gone, perhaps can be revisited. Chris May?
  21. Did anyone receive the SLU in the Postseason email? I can't figure out how to post images here or I'd post a screen capture. Anyway, I received it this afternoon. Guessing went to all alums, season ticket holders, friends? Check your Inboxes. Very cool. There's info on A10 conference tourney schedule, various SLU parties in Brooklyn (the good Doc Chaifetz is hosting the first,) TV schedule, watch parties across the country, heck, even discounts with American Airlines and Marriott for fans into NY/Brooklyn for the games. The email directs to a post-season landing page, too: www.slu.edu/postseason This is the way it should be done! Really glad SLU is doing this. Outstanding.
  22. Thanks for the info. I'll reach out to you guys if I can make my trip work, maybe hook up at pre-party. By the way, the alumni office told me this afternoon that there ARE 6 alum tickets left. There will be something like 100+ people in the section.
  23. I may be there, trying to juggle biz trip itinerary. Alum tickets left? Anyone going to pre-game Alum event Meg is throwing? Should be great game, great party.
  24. Yes, indeed. Outstanding.
  25. Yea, sorry! Will try harder. During game, didn't always know what specifically Chaka Khan was belly achin' about. Sorry about ending preposition. But I saw the seal on the monster dunk and no question about the reason for his bitchin' and moanin' beeline.
