  1. Reading this was like a punch in the gut. RIP Josh.
  2. People are just messing with you. In the dark ages sometimes it would be just 1 or 2 people posting during a home basketball game thread.
  3. Added: Can you name the Notable SLU Billikens by Their Pictures? I'll probably try to do some more picture quizzes, but they are kind of tedious.
  4. I don't think SLU has any real MLB "prospects" that are seniors. However, the MLB draft is 50 rounds, so there is a very good possibility that some of the seniors get picked up in the later rounds. However, they would likely just kick around the minors for a few years as organizational filler.

  6. I wonder if there is a difference in how much a buy game with a D-II school costs vs a buy game with a D-I school. If D-II is significantly cheaper that would be another reason to play more D-II schools instead. I can't imagine that attendance would be affected very much.
  7. ESPN Preview of the SC regional: Columbia, S.C.Field: South Carolina (1), Clemson (2), Liberty (3), Saint Louis (4) The Saint Louis Billikens aren't your beaten-down 4-seed, not with Alex Kelly hitting .340/.427/.546 to lead the offense and a stingy bullpen backing up a sturdy if not spectacular starting rotation. If an underdog is going to emerge from this regional, I think Saint Louis is the pick. The committee is giving Clemson No. 3 Liberty in its first game, which means it didn't give the Tigers death; they should handle Liberty quite easily. But in brutal honesty, any game featuring Liberty and Saint Louis in this regional is going to feel like wasting time, not because of their unworthiness but because of the fervor for a South Carolina-Clemson final to advance to the supers. Some folks around those parts aren't happy the committee sent the Tigers to Columbia in the regional round, but after the moaners finish their final sentence, what we'll have is potentially one of the most charged fields among the regionals.
  8. I'm going to add the 2012-13 RPIs to Pistol's list, so we can get a little bit better judge of SOS. 2013-2014 Schedule: 11/21 vs. Bowling Green - 274, Presbyterian - 340, Georgia Southern - 266, or Oral Roberts - 151 (Cancun Challenge, home sites) 11/23 vs. Bowling Green - 274, Presbyterian - 340, Georgia Southern - 266, or Oral Roberts - 151 (Cancun Challenge, home sites) 11/26 @ Wisconsin - 32 (Cancun Challenge, Cancun, Mexico) 11/26 @ West Virginia - 146 or Old Dominion - 318 (Cancun Challenge, Cancun, Mexico) 12/18 vs. Indiana State - 74 Dates TBD: @ Valpo - 58 @ SIUC - 192 @ SIUE - 304 (if the 2-for-1 has the road game second) Vanderbilt - 120 (site TBD) Wichita State - 37 (site TBD) So top 5: Wisconsin - 32 Wichita St - 37 Valpo - 58 Indiana St - 74 Vanderbilt - 120 For reference SLU 2012-13 top 5 RPI opponents: New Mexico - 2 Kansas - 5 Valpo - 58 Washington - 88 Santa Clara - 101
  9. Playing multiple Valley teams is nothing new for SLU. For years SLU had home and homes going with both SIU-C and Missouri State. I'm not a huge fan of playing so many teams from the same conference, but really it makes sense for SLU to schedule home and homes with Valley teams if they can't get top level BCS teams to do home and homes. The Valley is a decent league and because the schools are close to StL, it makes for easy OOC road trips to the away games.
  10. This issue probably has more to do with having an "easy" major than it does having "easy" classes. You have to be making progress towards a degree and therefore can't just pick and choose all of the easy classes.
  11. Mobile-iken / Big Mac, I have to say that your new user name makes you head hurt. I assume the name refers to the city of Mobile, AL which I have always pronounced (and I assume is correct) MO - BEEL, Alabama. However, your name makes me want to pronounce it MO - BILL because MO - BEEL - IKEN makes no sense.
  12. I think they try to balance this out somewhat. Last year was sort of an anomaly with only 1 true out of conference road game. Isn't there is a minimum number of home games (including exhibitions) that they have to maintain for season ticket holders? This makes me wonder if we have so many road games will they play 2 exhibition games instead of doing 1 game and 1 closed door scrimmage.
  13. I think we have a return trip to Methdale as well. This kinda makes me think the Vandy series (if we have one for sure) would start at home.
  14. Baseball American Columbia Regional Preview:
  15. I tried to fight the good fight in the comments for a little bit, but I realized it was hopeless and I should just ignore it so the post did not receive any more attention. We've already been over this on the board, but it is total BS that this ESPN guy singles out SLU for something almost all Division I teams are guilty of and as it turns out his reasoning singling out SLU is probably not even accurate. My favorite comment is probably the last on by the guy with a user name "tiger" who says he was a SLU fan, but won't be anymore after reading this article. First off, I have a hard time believing this "tiger" fan was really ever a SLU fan and if he was and a one-sided article changes in mind then he is an idiot.
  16. Thanks SLU_PT. I do not like the fact that the author linked back to the Drew article. I was hoping that would fade away into oblivion.
  17. http://insider.espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/story/_/id/9318102/kevin-ollie-jim-crews-poised-lead-teams-breakout-seasons-college-basketball?refresh=true&refresh=true&refresh=true&refresh=true It is behind the ESPN insider pay wall. Anyone with ESPN Insider want to give us a summary?
  18. I don't think anyone has posted this yet, Here is a link to the NCAA baseball "bracket" The way baseball works is that #4 SLU plays a double-elimination tournament with the 3 other teams in their "pod" (#1 South Carolina, #2 Clemson, #3 Liberty). The winner of this would advance to the "super regionals" for a best of 3 series against the winner of the North Carolina pod (#1 UNC, #2 FL Atlantic, #3 Towson, #4 Canisus). The super regional is roughly equivalent to the sweet 16 in basketball. The winners of the super regionals go on to the "college world series" in Omaha. The CWS is an 8 team double elimination tournament. Although it involves 8 teams, the CWS is roughly equivalent to the final four in hoops in terms of the excitement around it. The chances of SLU making the CWS are very slim, but it would be tremendously positive for the baseball program and the school if they were to do so. Having been to the CWS in the past despite not caring about any of the teams in it, I would definitely go again if SLU made the field. The CWS is a crazy party atmosphere with massive amount of tailgating and whatnot.
  19. mods, please lock this thread (and ban everyone who has posted in it). thank you.
  20. Isn't Carlos Anderson a 2015 guy? I'm not sure SLU's level of interest, but as Roy can attest he has been to Chaifetz.
  21. So the weird thing I noticed while I was making the Billiken players A-Z quiz is that there is only one player listed in the record book for Q. This player only has a last name listed (whereas almost all the other entries have first and last). He apparently played 2 games during the 1944-45 season and made 1 FT. Also, not surprisingly, the Billikens have never had a player with a last name starting with an X.
  22. ^Twitter handles for the ones you did not have listed.
  23. This report about Reggie is encouraging, but I'll take it with a big grain of salt because this guy is basically his promoter. As a freshman on a senior laden team, anyway Reggie contributes next year is a bonus.
