  1. Crawford tweeted this earlier today: Mike Crawford ‏@LikeMike3232m Scored a 5 on my AP Calculus Very impressive. That AP Calc test is no joke. Good to hear that Crawford is very smart and also that he is already knocking out some college credit.
  2. Doing some "I'm bored" searches for SLU news on twitter and I came across these gems. I do not post these because I think it is a possibility. I post them to poke fun at some wacked-out Butler fans (who are admittedly in the minority): Matt Zemek ‏@MattZemek_CFN3 Jul The name that, to me, makes sense for Butler is probably a coach who has no interest in leaving his current job: Jim Crews. Derrick Pond ‏@pondizzle433 Jul @dandakich get Butler on the line and tell them to give Jim Crews a call!! Indiana ties, beat them twice.. Can coach "Butler" players Vince Novinger ‏@VinceNovinger4 Jul If I'm Butler, Jim Crews is my first call. Great track record and understands the Butler way @dandakich @eddiewhite3 I hadn't heard Crews even mentioned as a possibility, but I guess there are a few delusional Butler fans out there who want him. First of all, Crews isn't going anywhere. He was just named as the "official" head coach at SLU a few months ago and why would he make a lateral move to Butler? He probably has more fun kicking the pants off Butler teams than he would playing 4th fiddle to IU, Purdue, and ND in Indiana again. Second, he doesn't seem to fit as the type of coach Butler usually hires. I'm not sure how he would "understand the Butler way". Other than having coached in Indiana over a decade ago, he has no ties to Butler at all. Butler usually hires former assistants or former players and they usually hire younger.
  3. When did you "see the kid play"? It sounds like there has been some reports of him making big improvements over the summer. Therefore, if you saw him play during the high school season, that may not be indicative of his current talent level.
  4. I'm not sure, but I think you only have to sit out a year if you actually play in a game or a scrimmage against another team. I remember seeing an article about the NCAA not allowing some kid another year of eligibility because he played in a close door scrimmage before transferring.
  5. Nice. Hopefully some of their fellow 2014 guys see the scholarships at SLU filling up and decide that they should hop aboard sooner rather than later.
  6. Hendrickson got an honorable mention in the College Baseball Insider coach of the year: http://www.collegebaseballinsider.com/13Postseason/13CBICOY.html
  7. And as long as we are pointing out problems with the Strauss article: "Failing to meet either requirement creates vulnerability, a hard lesson UMass learned after winning nine regular-season A-10 games. It spoke well of a mid-major conference that Butler, Xavier and Temple each gained a berth after winning 11 league games." Xavier did not "gain a berth" in the 2013 NCAA tournament. "UMass has not appeared in the ‘‘Big Dance’’ since 1998 and not won a game in it since John Calipari coached the Marcus Camby Minutemen to the 1996 Final Four." Technically, UMass did not win any NCAA tournament games in 1996 either because their appearance was vacated due to NCAA infractions. Therefore, you would have to go back further to find their last NCAA win (Thanks coach Cal).
  8. Joe Strauss has a chat going on right now on StLToday.com for anyone who wants to shoot him questions re: SLU or his article: http://live.stltoday.com/Event/Thread.aspx?Id=137293
  9. Also it sounds like Joe Strauss will have a SLU column in the PD tomorrow: Joe Strauss ‏@JoeStrauss43m Wed column to P-D, @stltoday re: SLU hoops' position w/in a diminished Atlantic 10.
  10. This FoxSportsMidwest article is more about his 2013 recruiting exploits, but I figured this was as good a place as any to post it: Crews gets Saint Louis recruiting back on track
  11. Ellis value to the team is sort of enigmatic. Based on his shooting and offensive numbers, you could probably make an argument that he actually hurt the Bills offensively because of how inefficient he was. He shot 33% from the floor and the same from 3pt range, he only had 33 assists, and wasn't an really offensive rebounder. Aside from being a decent (but not great) 3 pt shooter, his best best offensive qualities were not turning the ball over and his stellar FT shooting. On defense, he didn't seem like an elite defender because of a lack of athleticism. He didn't block a bunch of shots or anything in the post and wasn't a great rebounder. However, he did have a good number of steals and obviously took a ton of charges which do not show up in the box score. His overall numbers seem kind of poor when you break them down, but I think he did enough "little things" well/great to contribute overall. It is hard to argue that he wasn't valuable given the success the team had.
  12. I hope so too, but without an Aussie assistant coach it might be difficult to convince kids to come to the Midwest.
  13. Thanks. That is sort of what I expected. ESPN isn't a great place for recruiting info especially for non-BCS schools. I assumed the yeoman's work Pistol is doing here was bound to be superior.
  14. http://insider.espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/basketball/mens/story/_/id/9425032/2014-non-bcs-basketball-recruiting-primer Anyone with ESPN insider care to share the SLU 2014 recruiting summary (if any) from this article?
  15. Fox 2 posted the video on their website: http://fox2now.com/2013/06/30/billikens-evans-barnett-on-sports-final/
  16. Right, I was curious about it as well, but I figured it was okay to post since Fox 2 had a graphic about it that they displayed during the interview.
  17. The interview was done by Martin Kilcoyne (ch 2) not Doug Vaughn (ch 4). He basically just served up a bunch of soft leading type questions, but that is about what I expected. It is just nice to see SLU get some press over the summer.
  18. EA Jr didn't mention the Big East either.
  19. No mention of the Big East if that is what you mean.
  20. Evans and Barnett are on. -Talking about working out over the summer and life on campus over the summer -Excited about having built the program up -Dwayne says he doesn't feel pressure being the leading scorer and rebounder -Jake says it is fun to have developed along w the other seniors -Feel like they have a home court edge at Chaifetz, shout out to the fans for being loud -Never worried about Crews "interim" label, Crews did excellent job w transition -Both are going on mission trips this summer Here is info on donating to their trips: give.cru.org Evans #0764158 Barnett #5552488
  21. Larry Legend on now. Talking about the NBA draft and the local kids. Now about his NBA career and playing w LeBron. And on to basketball camp he is putting on at CBC.
  22. http://collegebasketballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/06/30/davell-roby-becomes-saint-louis-first-2014-commitment/
  23. Based on the timeline it seems like Roby just fell in love with SLU upon visiting. I don't think we get a commit like this if Roby was touring West Pine Gym instead of Chaifetz.
  24. I like this: John Martin ‏@JohnMartinCA10m Davell Roby: "I really found out about (SLU) when Memphis lost to them in the NCAA Tournament." John Martin ‏@JohnMartinCA3m Writing against deadline, but I think Saint Louis is a perfect fit for Roby. Athletic slasher with good length. He can help early.
  25. Here is Jayson Tatum's mom on SLU's latest commit: BCole_Esq ‏@Brandy_N_Cole4m @BWeixScout looking forward to the story. That's a good look for SLU!!!! He's niiiiiiccccceeeee!!!! This probably means nothing, but I'll grasp at anything that indicates SLU has a chance with Tatum.
