  1. Well, I would probably rather see Cody advance than the USA team. I don't care about Canada at all, so I was hoping for a USA smackdown on them so USA and Australia could both advance. If you look at the talent on the USA team, there is no reason they should have lost to Australia or Canada. Very disappointing that they represented our country with that performance. Sort of like those early 2000s "Dream Teams" that did poorly in the Olympics and other competitions. Edit: Also, mods please ban kshoe for hating America. Thanks.
  2. Not happy with the USA performance, but I'm glad Cody gets to move on.
  3. Updating Kwyjibo's post from earlier (based on these results I think some of your numbers were off as well): Canada beat Czech 87 - 56 (+31 point differential) US -> +94, +43, +18, -9 = 146 total (3-1 record, last game vs Canada) CA -> +15, +94, +9,+31 = 149 total (4-0 record, last game vs US) AU -> +28, +17, -9, +9 = 45 total (3-1 record, last game vs UAE who lost to both Canada and US by 94) This margin of victory thing could create an interesting scenario where Australia is up big say 90+ points on UAE, but could be fouling to extend the game and run up the score.
  4. Yes, I meant 4-1. Didn't realize there were 5 games. As a US citizen I want them to advance and as a Billiken fan I want Australia to advance so it sounds like I just want USA to pound Canada in the to dirt for that to happen.
  5. Damn. I really liked the idea of getting Macura because of the reports of him being an excellent shooter. Now that some big boys are jumping in, I think it is only a matter of time before Minnesota offers and he'll end up there.
  6. Does anyone know how the tie-breakers work if USA, Canada, and Australia all finish 3-1 with losses to one another?
  7. Kind of odd that it would be scheduled that way. Do you think it being on a Monday has to do with TV?
  8. 12-17 really isn't that bad of a record (for a buy game opponent). Some of SLU opponents last year for reference: North Texas: 11-19 Tennessee Martin: 7-21 Eastern Illinois: 11-20 Loyola Marymount: 10-22 SIUE: 7-18 Duquesne: 8-22 Fordham: 7-24 Rhode Island: 8-21
  9. Actually Yale was 198 in RPI last year according to RPIForecast.com. Not great, but certainly not an RPI killer like some of the 300+ RPI school we have played in the past. They return 4 of 5 starters as well so there shouldn't be a huge drop off. Further everyone has actually heard of Yale (even if it is for academics rather than athletics), so I would expect better attendance than a game against North Texas or Tennessee Martin.
  10. Agreed. I've been ignoring everyone's signatures for so long I forgot they even existed until Rich broached the topic.
  11. Cody Ellis ‏@codyellis242h Tough loss to Canada today. Gotta beat the U.S. tomorrow to stay in medal contention. #UniRoos The Aussies lost to Canada. Doesn't look good as far as them advancing any further.
  12. I don't think the idea of Grandy getting a few minutes at the 3 is as outlandish as others on here, but this article is pretty much irrelevant. Not only is it completely out-dated, but as another poster (I cannot recall who) said in a thread about Agbeko playing the 3 generally kids always want to play a spot below where they actually fit in college because that is how it works in the NBA. You don't see many 6-6 PFs in the NBA, so a 6-6 kid is going to think "I should be playing the 3" when in reality he should be a 4 and doesn't have NBA talent.
  13. It appears that Oakville did play Desmet on February 14. DeSmet won easily 76 - 48. Berry led 25 with 10 bebounds and Gillmann led Oakville with 13 point and 10 rebounds. Here is a link to Oakville's schedule if you want to check out any other matchups.
  14. Basically Cody's Aussie team needs to win their game against Canada tomorrow to claim that #2 spot to advance to the medal round. I don't know much about the rosters, but doubt anyone will beat the US team.
  15. I suppose technically that is how it worked, but I only took one AP test (BC Calc) and I wound up with 8 credit hours for it.
  16. AY does have to sit out this coming year, but he still counts against the scholarship total. He will be a junior and have 2 years of eligibility remaining after sitting out next year. Whether he should be called a Soph this year or a Junior who is redshirting is up for debate, but it doesn't really matter. The chart is accurate.
  17. I got a ton of credit for my AP classes at Rockhurst. I think it was 8 for BC Calc.
  18. Crawford tweeted this earlier today: Mike Crawford ‏@LikeMike3232m Scored a 5 on my AP Calculus Very impressive. That AP Calc test is no joke. Good to hear that Crawford is very smart and also that he is already knocking out some college credit.
  19. Doing some "I'm bored" searches for SLU news on twitter and I came across these gems. I do not post these because I think it is a possibility. I post them to poke fun at some wacked-out Butler fans (who are admittedly in the minority): Matt Zemek ‏@MattZemek_CFN3 Jul The name that, to me, makes sense for Butler is probably a coach who has no interest in leaving his current job: Jim Crews. Derrick Pond ‏@pondizzle433 Jul @dandakich get Butler on the line and tell them to give Jim Crews a call!! Indiana ties, beat them twice.. Can coach "Butler" players Vince Novinger ‏@VinceNovinger4 Jul If I'm Butler, Jim Crews is my first call. Great track record and understands the Butler way @dandakich @eddiewhite3 I hadn't heard Crews even mentioned as a possibility, but I guess there are a few delusional Butler fans out there who want him. First of all, Crews isn't going anywhere. He was just named as the "official" head coach at SLU a few months ago and why would he make a lateral move to Butler? He probably has more fun kicking the pants off Butler teams than he would playing 4th fiddle to IU, Purdue, and ND in Indiana again. Second, he doesn't seem to fit as the type of coach Butler usually hires. I'm not sure how he would "understand the Butler way". Other than having coached in Indiana over a decade ago, he has no ties to Butler at all. Butler usually hires former assistants or former players and they usually hire younger.
  20. When did you "see the kid play"? It sounds like there has been some reports of him making big improvements over the summer. Therefore, if you saw him play during the high school season, that may not be indicative of his current talent level.
  21. I'm not sure, but I think you only have to sit out a year if you actually play in a game or a scrimmage against another team. I remember seeing an article about the NCAA not allowing some kid another year of eligibility because he played in a close door scrimmage before transferring.
  22. Nice. Hopefully some of their fellow 2014 guys see the scholarships at SLU filling up and decide that they should hop aboard sooner rather than later.
  23. Hendrickson got an honorable mention in the College Baseball Insider coach of the year: http://www.collegebaseballinsider.com/13Postseason/13CBICOY.html
  24. And as long as we are pointing out problems with the Strauss article: "Failing to meet either requirement creates vulnerability, a hard lesson UMass learned after winning nine regular-season A-10 games. It spoke well of a mid-major conference that Butler, Xavier and Temple each gained a berth after winning 11 league games." Xavier did not "gain a berth" in the 2013 NCAA tournament. "UMass has not appeared in the ‘‘Big Dance’’ since 1998 and not won a game in it since John Calipari coached the Marcus Camby Minutemen to the 1996 Final Four." Technically, UMass did not win any NCAA tournament games in 1996 either because their appearance was vacated due to NCAA infractions. Therefore, you would have to go back further to find their last NCAA win (Thanks coach Cal).
  25. Joe Strauss has a chat going on right now on StLToday.com for anyone who wants to shoot him questions re: SLU or his article: http://live.stltoday.com/Event/Thread.aspx?Id=137293
