  1. You know what I found humorous. When BC was standing next to Green, you could see he was just slightly taller than Green, even though he is "undersized". Green was awesome, but his wing skills are what make him a great player.
  2. I thought Dobbs was fantastic, but I never thought of him as a big guy. To me, he was a wing guarding people inside because we had nobody else. It that Bills team had our inside men, Dobbs would have been starting at the 3 position (and the Bills would have won a few more NCAA games).
  3. Bonner was a 1st round NBA draft pick. I think I would like to have a 1st rounder at any position, not just PF. I do think Conk was the best PF SLU has had since, well Bonner.
  4. Yes. Bernie mentioned last year that Colorado and V Tech got snubbed even though their rpi was in the 20s. However, I do not believe this was true, I think both their rpi numbers were in the mid-60's, at least a site I looked at stated that. I believe MO St. was the one team that got snubbed, but they finished in a logjam with 5 other MVC teams that made the tourney: Wich St, N Iowa, Creighton, SIU, and Bradley. SLU is easily in second.
  5. I actually didn't keep track of how he shot or anything and I am not assuming anything. I just mentioned this because I was expecting a Dustin M type and instead saw a guy throwing some dunks down off of rebounds and appears to be about as tall as Glaze.
  6. When watching warmups before the X game, ET actually stood out to me. He seems to be almost as tall as Glaze and is more athletic than I thought. I think he has a frame that could add some muscle. Definitely a bigger wing guy. I believe Majerus is looking for taller wing guys and redshirting them to get better at their outside skills. He probably would redshirt Manning and Glaze if he could do it over again. Majerus speaks about kids talent and what they could be in a year or two. When they hit the floor, he then shifts into their weaknesses in his sound bites. From the sound of it, I believe he thinks Manning has Reed type of talent but can sit his Freshman year since he has some upperclassmen ahead of him, unlike Reed his 1st year. My guess is that they will go with DE and JB at the 3 next year and KM, JJ, and MM will split time at 1 and 2. I just don't think the Freshmen will play D the way Majerus wants it played out of the gate to justify a lot of playing time. I remember Majerus said that he would sit KM his Freshmen year if he could have afforded it. But if Carter comes out like Augustine or Collison or something like that, it could obviously change things (think that is a longshot).
  7. McCall's has gone from a terrible defender to a mediocre defender at the start of this year to a good defender to a great defender at this point. He is one of the main reason's this team has improved from the start of conf play. Just great at denying the pass to his man. His overall ballhandling has improved also. I am excited about the rest of this year, but I am fully expecting the JJ/MM/KM combination in the backcourt to be one of the best in the country next year.
  8. Yes, Conk is the most improved player of all time. There is several to choose from in the upperclassmen, Fisher, Sloan, Carlos his senior year but Conk is by the far the best. And everybody always brings up former players that would make good coaches, but for the most part I think it is hard to predict that and I never had strong feelings on that. But I do believe that Conk is the one guy I have seen play at SLU and think "that guy might make a great coach". One thing always sticks out with me - he is maybe one of the best help defenders, but when you sit down low at a game and here him direct the defense, it is like a coach on the floor on the defensive end. He makes others better on the defensive end. He has maximized every ounce of potential in himself.
  9. Really, I like them over Fordham, St. B, Duq, and LaSalle. I could go to some road games and the home crowds would be bigger. And Bradley is having an awful year, but they have had some success lately.
  10. That league existed at one time. It was called the Midwestern Collegiate and only Butler stuck with what is now the Horizon.
  11. You could argue the same thing about the two incoming freshmen next year. You are going to have JJ, KM, MM, and DE probably demanding close to 30 minutes a game and JB is probably going to be taking whatever time they don't get. 120 minutes for those 3 perimeter positions is all you get. And with 5 big men next year (and CE will surely be starting at the 4), there is not going to be any room down low.
  12. I would think SLU would match up Evans against Aiken. He gives up a 4 inches but I don't know if that matters on the wing. Conk guarding Roberts. Still going to be a tough game. Bills can't let their guards get the better of them, which has happened too often in the A10 this year.
  13. I think he is more than an inch shorter as I think they stopped shaving inches after the current juniors. However, I do think he will replace Conk's production next year. Maybe not exclusively posting up, but still score a lot of points. Needs to tighten up the ball handling and the pull it more from the outside.
  14. That is what the Assistant said in the postgame to Rammer. He played extremely well in the 2nd half. They were calling it tight, so Jett and KM knew they should take it to the basket and score or draw the call. Not sure why Jett, was not the one starting, but McCall has been playing well and it probably makes sense to start him with Evans.
  15. I thought we were getting screwed the 1st half. The fouls were bad on both sides but they were taking extra steps every play without a call.
  16. Agreed. Rationalization to blame the 5th or 6th guy instead of one of the leaders and favorite players. I am ecstatic the team has done this well this year. And I was hoping for the 1 road win for the last 7 days. And I think we are holding all the home games and winning at least 2 more on the road and possibly 3. Saying that KM has disappointed. Essentially, his production has been replaced by BC. I am not going to talk about vague things like leadership and taking control. His production and play is not up to what he was as a Soph, much less what I expected from the "only player that Majerus had the NBA talk" and all the other stuff that was mentioned. His 2-pt shooting % is not very good, can't convert a layup recently, his FT % is poor, he is not penetrating enough to lead to baskets by himself and others, and he made some boneheaded fouls on those 3-ptrs. And his underperfomances are usually against the better teams. The only good team I thought he played well against was Washington, a game which he was great, not just good. I would not mind if he actually pulled up for a mid-range jumper on the drive. When he does pass off the drive, more times than not, SLU gets a basket, so I would like to see more of it. By the way, as much as KM has not met expectations, BC has exceeded them. I don't think those two items are correlated. If KM gets his game back, SLU can be really tough, instead of "On the Bubble". I also want to say Ellis has been good, and a turnaround from last year. Offsetting that, I think RL has struggled for the most part, but I think he is just starting to come out of it.
  17. Here is the comparison: Conklin is a taller version of Jeff Harris. They are both exceptionally strong, with a whole lot of toughness, relatively quick, finish around the basket against bigger opponents, great help defenders, good off the dribble within 15 feet of the basket, set monster picks, but neither was a skywalker. Conklin is taller so he is playing a better as a senior. Conklin is also a very good passer.
  18. Staying undefeated would be awesome. Worried about the letdown also. Luckily the team is deep, so it is something that can be overcome. How they shoot from the perimeter will be key. They had a hard time knocking down outside shots that 1st game in Anaheim, and that was their worst performance to date. That is what I am most worried about in this game - staying hot from the perimeter on the road. Team is playing awesome by the way. We have 3 guys scoring consistently and 9 guys contributing. I don't want to jinx us, so I am not going to say anything else.
  19. Agree with most of what Roy said. The difference between when KM/KC/BC/JJ were on the floor vs any other combination was surprising. The 4th year kids are playing really clean, JJ fits in with them the best, and the rest junked it up a bit. I thought are guards would just annilate them and that did not seem to be the case when any of the 2nd team was on the floor. I will say that the team finally looks like Xavier or Temple, they look great. For years, we have been too thin, and now they finally have some muscle all-around. Don't get the poster that complained about the trainer. Evan looks like a football player, MM is stronger, Conk looks in top shape, Glaze is a beast, Ellis looks a little stronger, and KC has even gotten stronger - that was the biggest surprise, he is not muscle-bound by any stretch of the imagination, but he does not look frail anymore. And it seemed to help him on the boards. I am shocked nobody is talking about the full-court man-to-man pressure. SLU is making an effort to really pressure the ball in the full and half-court. Conklin looked great helping to deny the guards on the inbound pass, he seems to be moving great. Of course, there were some growing pains with this, the 1st team did this well, while Cardinal's guards seemed to be able to drive on any pressure that MM, CE, JB applied. I do like JB's shot, quick and good form and he nailed a couple 3s. His D and ballhandling need work. I was thinking that DE might be the 2nd best player on the team, so I was pretty disappointed in his play last night. I thought he would tear them up inside last night and that did not happen. However, I think DE and MM are trying to catch up with the quick pace and in a few weeks, will start to fit in better. They showed what they could do last year. If Ellis keeps playing like that, he ain't playing. I bet SLU goes small whenever they get a chance with BC and DE inside.
  20. 1) Well they destroyed the 1st 3 teams. Can't really get much out of the Canada trip, since it is hard to get an idea of the competition and the games were played with little time to rest or prepare. 2) Yes. The bigger question is at Center. 3) No, I think Evans will be one of the 2 or 3 best on the team. Again, just from stats, RL may have been the one to have a subpar trip - he needs to put points on the board to be effective. 4) Yes - it was not much of an injury. 5) No, my guess is too raw. One or both could redshirt, possibly. BC, RL, CR, and CE are in front of them, with DE moving down in a quick lineup. 6) Better, but I am not sure he makes the jump to starter, that was assumed by many on this board. 7) Have to add in KC, JB, and DE - 6 players for 3 positions. I think that is a good problem to have. 8) Help obviously, he has started the last 2 years. Best passer, good handle, good D. I think he will fill in the taller spot shooter role now that KM is back to draw the opposing team's attention. 9) Yes, although hopefully he can transition defensively in the early part of the year. 10) Yes and he does not have to be a scorer to do so. If the other 4 guys on the floor are all scoring some, the fourth guy does not have to be too much of a threat. I believe he competes with RL to start.
