  1. I'm fairly sure the issue with KS is not money, but rather the support that a walk-on can receive vs. a scholarship player. This has to do with off season conditioning, coaching, one-on-one training sessions, and the like.
  2. At one of the Billiken Club meetings, Brad, who was unable to discuss recruits, indicated that there was a significant difference in support that can be provided to a scholarship vs. non-scholarship athlete. The clear inference was that Kramer would receive a scholarship.
  3. I read an article that indicated he was from Springfield, Mo., moved to the east coast specifically to go to DeMantha for the b-ball exposure.
  4. When you see our plan in the next few weeks please remember to compare to the Louisville plan and you'll understand why it is so hard to compete with the upper echelon programs.
  5. It is not a PSL, it is an annual donation. The lowest tier will be lower than $500-1,000, substantially lower.
  6. Did I hear correctly that KS is not playing with the Eagles this summer and concentrating on improving his own skills and strenth? If so, that would probably hurt Brad's ability to interact with some of the class of '08.
  7. When discussing Marquette, I've wondered if D Wade left after one year and L Hughes stayed for 3 years, would our positions be switched? I certainly don't know, but it may be food for thought. Just our luck, if Larry had only stayed one more year with Love, we might be in an entirely different position.
  8. Earlier this year, Earl Austin stated he much preferred Thompson to Brandenberg.
  9. That is the main lot planned for the games. I know they are trying to work something out with Harris Stowe to use the grass lot to the northeast, but that seems awfully tough for HS, since they use it as a soccer field. A new lot for high end donors is being constructed just west of the new building, but it will only support a few hundred cars.
  10. I was at that game, also. And you're right, they almost won. I believe if Amanda had played throughout the year, they would have won 4 or 5 more games, including the Arkansas game. I think that proves my point. Arkansas, which by the way fell apart the rest of the year, and several others were winable games, if we could have scored a couple of cheap baskets inside, and defended and rebounded better.
  11. Shimmy must see something special in her, because the team is loaded with small players and needs some serious size.
  12. How do you explain our beating GW in StL earlier this year? I guess your explanation is that was a fluke. GW didn't change their trap, our kids just didn't execute as well as they did earlier. If I knew why, I could sell a book to coaches in every sport, at every level and retire. Frankly, you don't know either, because if you did, you'd tell the world the answer. Come to think of it, if you were involved with GW, you would have been pleading for Hobbs' dismissal when he lost to SLU.
  13. If you look on the right side of the SLU homepage, under the schedule. Under the game, it says gametracker and watch. Hit the watch link and it takes you to CSTV, which does indicate the game will be shown tomorrow at 5:30. In St. Louis the Thur. and Fri. games, if played, will be on channel 11, according to the Post.
  14. Lady Bills shoot 23 less free throws than X, even though we killed them in the paint and dominated the boards.
  15. Does a $30,000 scholarship amount to anything other than a big thank you for showing up and playing hard? I suspect that might offset the disappointment of getting in for a minute. Too bad Richmond got hot, we may have seen all of the other players sooner.
  16. It is my understanding that the student section will be behind one of the baskets. They will be benches, rather than seats, for 1,000. The administration hopes the students will attend, stand and that will allow them to accomodate a few more students.
  17. Roy, you are absolutely correct, you're stating my point. There needs to be additional revenue streams. Unfortunately, most of them are being used for debt service. The athletic department will not receive much of the additional revenue. I know for a fact most of the hoped for annual donation increases are going to debt service. The cost to run the building will be very high compared to current levels. They will seek out as many revenue sources as possible, because they believe additional money is needed for the entire department. Heck, we only provide the maximum scholarships allowed in 3 sports, the 2 b-ball teams and men's soccer. Bottom line, in my opinion, they're not going to give up any income that they currently receive.
  18. Hey, I'm not trying to be a jerk, nor a know-it-all. What I am trying to do is to respond to the desire for less advertising at the new arena. I do not know the finite details of the financing, but I do know there are over $45 million of bonds being financed. I also know that the school is taking the greatest portion of the increase in donations to help service the debt. So, the athletic department will not be in an improved financial situation. Unfortunately, they will need to continue to lean on additional revenue streams to support their activities. Ergo, advertising is not likely to decrease. That's my point, nothing more. If you feel I need to have the details of the transaction to understand that, we agree to disagree.
  19. You picked the wrong guy this time, I have over 30 years experience as a commercial real estate lender. If you believe that this new project is going to pay for itself by ticket revenue, and the increased donations to belong to the Billiken Club for priority seating, I'm afraid you're going to be mistaken.
  20. Wake up, the cost of the new building will be greater than the Scott, or whatever it's called this year. Advertising will only decline when donations make up for the lost revenue. The average seat in the lower bowl, within the court, contributes less than $22/yr. to the athletic department. I guarantee you those ads bring in a bunch more. As to future donations to have choice seats in the on campus building, the great majority of the raised money is going for debt service on the bonds. The athletic department will continue to need advertising to support their budget. As I said, there's only one way to reduce the advertising, pony up and write a big check.
  21. Some percentage of the increased revenue will be going to service the debt on the building, not the athletic department's revenue. Remember, the University is not planning on injecting any cash into the transaction.
  22. So, has he been to campus twice? Once, in Januaray, as the attached post indicates and last weekend?
  23. I believe that Nate indicated a week or so ago that he believed Powell would end up at a Valley School.
  24. Is anyone aware of the date of the next Billiken Club meeting?
