  1. As you admitted, you are cheap. You are also unehical. What did you learn at SLU? This is a perk offered to active students. If you are not an active student, meeting all of the rules, then you are not eligible. Period. You need to grow up and enter the adult world.
  2. Add my thanks to Diane and the Blue Crew, also. You are doing a great job. Diane, you are showing very good leadership skills. It will get even better as the season goes on. I only hope that you don't get more and more trouble from the Scottrade security staff.
  3. I feel that we have line-up options this year that have not been available for a long time: If ever. The normal starting line-up (assuming JJ is ready to play) might be IV, TL, KL, LM, JJ. The second line, and very interchangable to meet match-up situations, would be BH, DP, DM, DB, OBI/HD/AK. You don't give up much with the subs and this could keep everyone fresh. Not too many teams in the country have depth potential like this. I am excited about this season. It is going to be fun.
  4. He has graduated every one of his players. It makes me proud that every player as the ability to balance their lives in order to give their best in the class room and on the court. SLU players have a future ahead of them. Can you say that about Missouri? Or Memphis? Or Kentucky? Or even Kansas or Indiana? Or any Huggins team? Tat is what Brad has done well so far!
  5. I assume that part of the money his family is paying goes into this publicity and hype. It is part of the package. They generate interest by saying that other programs are looking at him. They probably do this for all of the kids attending there.
  6. I am not saying that we need another project at center. We need someone that can be effective in his freshman year. I expect Bryce to be the starter, but he will get in foul trouble on defense or will need extended time for rest. Sure he could be replaced by a power forward. But I would rather see him replaced by a true center. Perhaps, Knollmeyer could be a back-up center? There are three scholarships available for 2007 - 2008. Our needs would seem to be to bring in guys that will be ready to start in their sophmore year at small forward/wing, center and a combo point and shoting guard. I am not certain that Powell fits those needs, unless it would be at small forward.
  7. That is nice that someone ranks Powell at # 78. However, the last time I looked, we have three freshman forwards. The number one priority for this class should be to bring in a quality center. We will need someone behind Bryce and possibly replace Bryce in mid-season. I am not saying that Powell should not be recruited. I am only saying that he is not the number one need for the 2007 class.
  8. It will be interesting to watch the Stemler situation this year. My bet is that he will be on the bench more than on the floor and his PT will be even less in his senior year. I feel that he made a mistake by selecting Indiana and Sampson. He would have much more PT at Marquette and probably would have been the starter at SLU.
  9. In West County there is a pretty good loyal crowd of SLU fns watching the away games at the End Zone on Clayton Road. I don't know about the crowd for the home games because most of us are season ticket holders.
  10. I am disapointed. I would have thought that something was learned from the fan complaints about the poor reception of KFNS especially in West County and St Charles County. The weak signal causes people to turn off the radio or to tune into some other station. I also have problems with the away games being broadcast on Charter. That leaves out the Dishnet and Direct TV customers. However, my complaint about the TV is not as strong as the poor radio reception. Having the TV on Charter gives me an excuse to watch the games at a bar.
  11. I thnik that they will rate SLU in the upper 40's. 48? And, as the season goes on, their recognition will get better as they win. Remember, SLU will start one or possibly two future NBA players, IV and TL. And neither one may be our best scorer, KL. This season will be something special. Get your tickets now.
  12. V-Time. That is so wrong. Do you think that the education and the opportunities provided for life (not just sports) are better at a public St Louis school or at a Parkway, Rockwood, Kirkwood or Webster school? Remember, sports prepares a person for a job if they happen to be one of the less than 1% of students that might get an opportunity for a professional sports career. Education prepares a person for the rest of their life. Would you want your children to be prepared to play professional sports, knowing that the chances are less than 1%, or to be prepared for life? For example. Players were recently cut by the Rams. If they concentrated solely on sports and not education, they will have very difficult times for the rest of their lives. If they concentrated on education first and sports second, then they will have a chance at living a good life beyond sports.
  13. I remember not to many years ago when Saint Louis University was in the top 10 average crowd of all college BB. Why? We had a winning team, there were plenty of weekend games, we played against mid-west teams, "H Clagmark" were exciting to watch, the St Louis media got behind the team and the St Louis population got behind the team. And there were still only a handful of students. What happened? We didn't win. We couldn't get decent days and times for the games. The Mid-west teams went to another league. The media jumped off in favor of the Rams. Even the radio broadcasts are on a station that is no longer the Sports Station of St Louis. The Savvis center was left to waste. And only a hundful of students attended. This year? The Band is better than ever. Seriously, the Band does more to entertain the fans than those stupid promotions we have had to endure the last couple years. The schedule is better in terms of who we play and when we play. Two great locals and a Pro will bring in some fans that will stick. Missouri is not even a factor this year and Illinois will have an off year. The Savvis center is being improved. The Rams and the Blues are both rebuilding. The quality of play will get media attention. St Louis sports fans will want to see a winning team (see reference on rams and Blues). And, still only a handful of students will attend.
  14. Sorry, my typing and spelling suck today. I need a drink.
  15. I guess that his parents feel that he has a chance at the NBA. $30,000 a year is a lot of money. But also remember that he must first play at least one year of college ball before the NBA. He could come back for a year at SLU, but will probably go ACC or SEC. I am certain that they are counting on him getting a full ride to college and then the big payback of NBA. He will need to get serious about his body. He is too skiny for even their H. S. programs. As for acidemics, they take three classes a day and a study hall. Does anyone have any idea who the play?
  16. Fordham was listed number 86 overall and number 6 in the A-10. That means there are five A10 teams better than Fordham. What makes you think that any of these teams has ben left oyt?
  17. VTIME, I feel as though you often get confused by the difference between a basketball team made up of players playing together and players of individual talent. Coach K has a team of players that he feel best represents the United States and can win. Not everyone can be on the team. Some individual talents had to be left off of the team in order to have a team that could win.
  18. Vashon doesn't have a coach. That is not a proirity right now. Opening school, obtaining books and getting the kids to attend are the priorities. Basketball is very far down the list. Get used to the fact that Vashon as well as all other St Louis Public Schools will be concentrating on education. Vashon will become a School, not a "Basketball School".
  19. What I am saying is the St Louis City Schools are in total disarray and may not be able to recover for several years. If we can believe the news, the district is even facing the possibility of being taken over by the State. It that happens, the State will try to bring the schools up to standards through academics. Athletics will not be a priority. This does not serve well for the kids that want to make something for themselves. And for most city boys, the only way they can make something for themselves is through sports. If there are poor sports programs or even no sports programs, some kids will not have opportunities to go to college. Yes, I feel that Floyd Irons is really gone. Maybe a private school will pick him up like CBC did with Bob Shannon. I understand that the AAU summer programs are important. However, kids need to play at the high school level in order to get on an AAU team.
  20. In my opinion, Powell and any other player who wants to go to college should be looking for a new high school. Remember, Vashon does not have a coach. For that matter, Vashon and all other city schools may not even have respectible sports programs. The city schools are going to have a hard time even opening the doors. Unfortunately the kids are going to be left behind. And kids like Powell will no longer have exposure. If they want exposure, they will need to spend a year at prep school. Or they will need to transfer to another school. Because of residency restrictions, it is probably too late for transfers to other public schools. Can Powell transfer to a private school? Can he qualify? In your opinion, what is the future for sports in St Louis City Public Schools?
  21. Yes, the V will fall apart. That school is being restructured for juniors and seniors only as a communications skills school. Frankly, any kid should with athletic abilities or should try to get out of the St Louis Schools as soon as possible. Not just Vashon, but all St Louis Schools. Don't want. Get out. Now! There is no hope for a couple years. It will be nothing but in-fighting and none of it will be about getting kids an education. Sports will be left very far behind. Some kids are not going to have a chance in life. And the Board members just don't care.
  22. I expect 18 pts from IV, 17 from KL, 16 from TL, 10 from the starting 3 (LM or DB), 6 from the starting 4 and 10 from the subs = 77 pts. Hold the enemy to 65 and out rebound them by 4 and we are dancing!!
  23. We are very fortunate that we have options. That alone is much more than we have had for the past few years. Each will bring their own skills and abilities. We are just going to have to wait to see which one develops as the starter. I expect that there will be development and improvement from year to year. Just having the presence of a 6'8" forward, with back-ups, on the court will make IV better and also make our 3's better. As for the type of player they should be: I would like them to watch films of Steve Novak.
