  1. Regarding the earlier discussion about Gordon being back in the STL area, he has not left the team.  He played in last nights game and scored 6 to go along with 9 boards.  I honestly don't care about what he does going forward, just providing a point that he IS in fact still Northwest Florida Junior College....as of 11/21.

  2. @slu72

Yuri's 11 assists bring him to a season average of 8.33 per game.  Pending other games being played tonight, that ranks him 5th for all of Division I; and 1st among Freshman.

If you haven't asked slu72 if there's room on his Yuri bandwagon by now, you may want to stick that thumb out high and hope he'll pick you up.

Yes, I know it's only 3 games.  But plenty to get excited about.

  3. This isn't to troll or rub salt in a wound; but hot dang.  We've talked about the possible need for changes to the volleyball and tennis programs; but field hockey is in rough shape right now.  They are 0-15, and are now ranked dead last in the nation.  Only 8 goals scored in 15 games this season.  I know not much has been expected of this program, but this is ugly.  Could there be a point where they'd decide to scrap the team and add something like women's lacrosse to keep the Title IX balance?  Again, I'm not being sarcastic, I'm seriously curious if this is something that is possible.  Theres a lot of travel money being spent on a team that hasn't really been competitive in a long time.

A win or a tie at GW tomorrow and SLU women are regular season A-10 Champs. A loss would give GW the regular season title. Conference tourney is at SLU the following weekend.

SLU won 2-1 with a goal in the 84th minute.

    Baxk to back Conference Champs.

If I know I can't make the next game, I bring the ticket with me and give it to the person next to me If they have someone

they would like to bring to a game. My seat is almost always filled.

This.  We have six seats between three couples + kids.  We bring our tickets with us for the games we won't be at.  Our 6 seats are almost always in use.  I can't recommend this enough.

  6. Bess waived by New Orleans.

Maybe not the outcome we were hoping for; but not necessarily surprising,

I don’t look at this as a setback. Javon got a lot of experience playing with the highest caliber league in the world.

This isn’t the end for him. I KNOW he’s going to have a good pro career one way or the other.

I BELIEVE he’ll get another shot to make an NBA roster.

I HOPE one day we’re watching him as part of the Christmas Day marquee matchup games.

Good luck wherever you go from here Javon. Billiken Nation is, and always will be, pulling for you.

I don't have kids but have one on the way - I was kind of on the side of "if our kid really really wants to play football I'm not going to stop them." My husband, who played football, was the one who said absolutely not. He only played up through high school and suffered multiple concussions, and his knees, ribs, and shoulders are not what a 31 year old guy's should be like at this stage because of it.

This is very similar to my household.  I have three sons.  Wife doesn't care one way or the other if they play or not.  I have said 'heck no' to them playing.

I played up through high school and have had several concussions, and still have terrible knee problems.  They play soccer, basketball, baseball, volleyball, and they're runners...but football is a big nope.

Concussions aside, in high school an opponent was paralyzed on a kickoff return.  The kid on my team who laid the hit wasn't particularly big, fast, strong etc; but the kid fell just right (wrong).  Same could be said for any sport where landing the wrong way could end in the same result; these things just happen more in football IMO.

  8. Just some more love for Javon.  This is a 5 minute interview from Pelicans media.  He talks getting to know the guys, what he sees his roles as, conditioning, and getting to know the guys.  I laughed at him calling Zion a kid.  He also says he liked Oceana on Bourbon St.

Just fun to watch one of our guys on this stage.  I sincerely hope he can eke his way on to a roster this year.  I think chances aren't great for him to make the final cut in New Orleans this year, but I know he'll keep grinding.  Hope someone notices.

  9. For what it’s worth, tonight was such a fun night to be at the game.

The women controlled the game, both in possession time and shots. Felt like we should’ve scored at least 2-3 goals.

We hit 3 posts; and just couldn’t find the back of the net. States’ keeper was solid. Cyclones had a late chance to win, but a good save put the game in OT.

We scored 2 minutes into overtime to win.

Other than the game, the atmosphere was great. 2,400 or so as announced attendance, and it felt like more.

Good student turnout, and my kids loved the human foosball, axe throwing (inflatable), and soccer darts; plus the giveaways.

Props to SLU and the ladies. It really is worth checking out.

  10. I wasn't a big fan at first, but only because I love the old logo.  Mascots are mostly to entertain the kids (both young and college age).

My kids were scared of the two-toned head when it debuted, but absolutely love the all white one now.  So, if my kids are any indication, kids like it and want to see him at games.  That's good enough for me.
