  1. absolutely a bargain they should sell them at the games
  2. on the PD that are armchair fonts with little real support for statements that spew from their pens. You are just stirring the pot, right? Do you have season tickets? Watch the whole season to see if this year is more entertaining and produces a better record than last year. Maybe you will find we are on the upswing and Ian, Tommie, and Kevin are three best players we have had on one team since Gray, Douglas, and Bonner played together. Horace Dixon is the real deal and if it were not for Brad's loyalty to Seniors he would be getting lots of Luke Meyer's time. I am really interested in how good Adam will be when he comes back. Bryce is better than last year as is Luke as is Polk. Why would we consider your comments at the beginning of the season when we just beat Quncy by 24 points when they almost upset SIUC at home losing by 6. By the way Marquette is not ranked as high academically as SLU and if it were not for the legacy of one coach Al Maquire the rest would not have pulled them together for a fine run the last 25 years. AM was 60 years old when he had his run and turned announcer.
  3. for the DB fans-Number one on Quincy led their team with the same 20 points as LM and many were scored when he was "defenced by DB"DM got the OI minutes rans the floor well; HD was productve for the few minutes he got, It would have been good to see more of the second five in a game we cotrolled and won by about 25; the only reason I can see for keeping IV in the game so long was to set a tone for the team as winners
  4. call Margot Lubus at SLU Athletic department; $125 is the minimum per year and I believe you get a 10% discount at SLU bookstore, entry to the Billiken Club at games; you can eat up at the windows overlooking the court while the team warms up; it is a nice view and the money is used to support the teams; for larger amounts they have some appreciative gifts. You get points toward the priority system and in 20 or 30 years when the old guys move on you get their seats-something to look forward to in the capitalist society
  5. that gives us the best offense however is OBi or DB going to move their feet or DB is he going to worry about anything other than standing on his spot waiting for the assist; DM runs the floor much like the new associate coach at Valpo-Drew? who used to battle out from under the basket to post up at the key? That is DM's best move not as a DB stand still wing shooter; seems like the kind of player that shoots better when moving and adjusts his balance automatically and looks a bit awkward when he has too much time to shoot-boy do we have choices-not like the OI senior season where played a 3-4 as a 5 and it kind of worked but everyone stood around and watched
  6. Frank and Bob were on at 10 this morning and did mention the Bills-are they on every day? V time are you going to buy the book on the last 20 years of high school basketball they were touting by Malcolm Briggs. He has paid his dues. I just drove by Sott Trade and the signal broke up badly and they were interviewing Christian Slater instead of talking hockey at 7:0PM as fans trickled in for the Blues game
  7. I'm a member but don't recall the time; I am interested- Romar got good crowds when he had regular luncheons there. It is an impressive setting; I believe Romar lived there for a short while before his family moved here. It should be a recruitung stop when Sodaberg has kids come to town- has a very good basketball court
  8. was the food same or better; more or less same price as last year? Last year the buffet was the only bargain in the building once the former owner and Tiger lover stopped cleaning the building. My wife said it looked like the boxes had new seating arrangements or upholstery
  9. good to see the crowd of students and parents interested in HS-we hope they come back-maybe SLU could offer student tickets to everyone under 21 Five bucks for rafter seats if the new owners don't charge too much.
  10. KL and HD come to mind first as being horses that are fluid that wouldn't wear down anyone want to add to the list?
  11. if we have a scholarship left over why not split it between the walk ons? is that allowed it would sure be an incentive for more than one walk on. If the center from HS can read and write he could be in the mix for the 4 spot if it is split between OBI, JJ, LM, HD at this point That kid ran for 40 minutes.
  12. we are certainly better than last year-even LM is bigger, stronger-but will he continue to bang the rim instead of the boards? I'd like to see HD get half of LM minutes and OBI and JJ get half of the game minutes; it is too bad we do not have a second Polk so we could play agressive defense and man game like Spoon used to do against Grawer's teams; Polk adds speed and interest and his shot looked better he just has to keep shooting and ask TL how to see the middle of the ring-boy is TL improved or what. Ian is smooth and KL is a tiger
  13. glad you enjoyed the game; I think it brought out some St. Louisans who may not have been to the Scott Trade Center before; Obi showed nothing of power forward but can shoot. He obviously does not take chances mixing it up or rebounding; HD on the other hand has the tools you almost wish the team was worse so HD could get more minutes; he will have to earn his time like KL and TL last year; remember KL was not a starter first semester. Wish LM and DM shots would fall for a few games and let them groove a stroke
  14. IV can play 4 or 5 he is in better shape quicker each year; HD runs the floor he is first man to his defensive position, often; he had as many rebounds as anyone in the Blue White game. Did anyone see any stats from that game? LM has one best asset if he is guarded he will pull the other teams 3 or 4 away from the rim. LM has no offensive skills that are competitve-do we want a 3 or a 4 that can't score. If we play twin towers BH can only play center. IV can knock down 3s if left alone. BH can hit 10 footers if left alone. Unfortunately, BH can not get postion against a wide body and I would like to know if BH was in any collisions with JJ or AK because he fell on HD in the Blue White game and it was not pretty. These early games should not be used to reward bench sitters and walk-ons; they should be used for minutes for HD, OI, and BH these are the projects we know LM can play against division II plus teams he is just not starter quality unless he learns a jump shot. No set shots, please.
  15. I left early, usually I can't get enough but two games is a long time to sit stll. I'll go with Billian's proclamation but it would be nice if LM could see the arch of some of the grads. He bangs way too many off the rim to be a starter and his hustle won't make up for it. HD looks like a contributor as a freshman and a star in 3 or 4 years. The alums were good to see but many of them are mere humans, again. Obviously, you could tell who is still playing for real and who hoisted them up or tried the old jump moves with a lot less jump; it was fun and probably a hundred or more people came to watch. Considering the lack of coverage by the post on any thing except who is hurt; I am surprised we have that many who sought ought the free game. My prediction now that baseball is over the post will cut the sports section to larger picture, fewer words and not as many writers who can actually be there for games.
  16. Body resist conditioning? He has not put on strength and pants like a dog in practise after 10-15 trips; he needs to run more and they need to work to find his agility. The guards are going to have to pass high to him and he could be the best shot blocker in the league; if he cared about the rest of his game he could control the court. Hopefully, he and JJ will give quality minutes and I wouldn't mind starts for either of them; how do the opponents match up to us to start?
  17. to either Phillipines or Pakistan whoever was the low bidder. But I think all of Skorkis Webbe' cronies are out of jail now so maybe we will have a new vote on who gets to exclusive cluster "bill" us.
  18. Want a free $120,000 scholarship or a free $50,000 scholarship? If it is scholarship you are after SLU and Illinois would be the choicest. 24
  19. hopefully they do something in good taste like Cook; later posters replied they would get rid of the pools; in 1968 when we were all streets and concrete and saw the fine arts building and school torn down; we voted for swimming pools; some of you may not remember the days of lunches on car hoods in front of the library; because we did not even have a student union or a cafeteria. Biondi is the patron saint of landscapers but he has town down one of the twin stone buildings west of the law school; built the law school; replaced the historic row houses across from Humphreys with grass and metal "sculptures" I graduated from A&S and have an MBA from SLU but we need fine arts and performing arts escpecially with our location close to the Fox, Midtown, Symphony, Keil Opera house; I, too, could accept the modern utiltarian look of the Parks-engineering translocation; however we have a chance to become what Wash U was a better looking campus in the city-instead of a cold city college with little atmosphere-kids do love grass and pools.
  20. much of a preservationist; just west of the law school there were matching stone buildings; he tore one down for a parking lot area and the row houses (high on the hill across from Humphreys where Ussleman's provided our baloney sandwiches before the student union) were razed for grass and Serra sculpture type metal; hopefully thery are smart enough to not lose the grassy area with the swimming pools and chicks; why go to a school that is all concrete and sidewalks. We should vote before removing any swimming pools. In 1968 our legacy was asking for swimming pools and grass we used to have to park in front of the library and eat our lunches on the hoods of the cars. This was a real city school back then
  21. care to comment on why you still support Grawer after he and coach Lee Winfield were fired. I remember how he handled Clagget, letting him sit on the bench so both their sons could start; I remember him getting beat by Spoon's SMS short teams. I remember how he could not coach bigs like Melvin Douglas and made Carlos Skinner into a rebond only 4. I really am thankful that he got the program going with Roland Gray, Monroe Douglas, and Anthony Bonner but we were outcoached worse then than in Sodaberg's first year which was pretty awful. Grawer's charisma versus Bonner's is doubtful and as you or someone said he is retirement age. Please tell me why Grawer still is important to many on this board?
  22. if you watched since August pickups, would you care to comment on who has put on weight? Who is faster and gotten in better shape? And if any of the new comers are ball hungry. I thought Baniak stopped improving because he wasn't quite mean enough and it looked like AK might be scrappier even if a raw freshman. But total I have only seen a couple of hours of scrimmage. Final question are they noww practising same time each day and if so is it still like 3:45?
  23. the practice session I watched still had him shooting a chest high set shot like Slater martin or Dolph Schayes-the last vestiges of the old style basketball before dunking became the thing. My question is not whether LM will try hard but whether his shots will have enough arch to not rim or bang off the board?
  24. LM was shooting line drives; still hasn't figured out you have to have arch on the ball; if he starts we concede 10+ points to the 3 on the opponents team. He is strong, smart, tenacious. I like all of that but don't give me another Sloan who can't finish. JJ lacked concentraction on his shots; as much as I would like to see him use that body I would rather see HD start from the get go. Kramer is a tough little gym rat that will shoot from the half court line and the other players don't do anything but pick him up off the floor when he catches an elbow to the face or gets kicked in the leg. He is going to help; we are fine at guard and center. We look better overall; there were only two other guys upstairs when I left so I don't know if it is okay to sit down below and I was surprised the coach could even watch these kinds of pick ups; I think the rules must have losened? Bryce needs to play; he did not lift weights; He looked stronger; his best defensive skill is keeping eye contact on the player with the ball; he likes to block shots and that is the best of his game; he is not unskilled at offense but he can not take IV no one on this team can. DB and TL had quiet games.
