  1. Before Tarkanian was at UNLV he was at Long Beach State (I believe) and when he left there, they went on NCAA probation. After UNLV he went to Fresno State and when he left there, they went on NCAA probation. We know the mess in which UNLV was when he left and you think the NCAA harassed him? You deserve credit for knowing that when Ron Ecker left St. Louis U. they were placed on probation because he held illegal practices but the difference is that St. Louis U. did not tolerate that type of behavior and Ecker was dismissed. UNLV not only tolerated Tarkanian's behavior but from the comments on the Rebel message board, the supporters encouraged it.
  2. In line with what you are saying, I recall that Kroenke also went to a prep school for one year before going to Mizzou.
  3. I am not sure that having coaches on the committee is fair to the coaches. It could place them in a difficult situation at a later time. The situation could arise that if a coach was not particulaly supportive of an AD canditate and that person was hired, how supportive of that coach would the AD be at a later date if the AD became aware of the coaches earlier lack of support. It may not even be a conscious lack of support but human nature being what it is that is a possibility. I know the coaches where not on the search committee at USF but in that situation, if the reports are true, I am not sure how supportive Woolard will be of these coaches when they face some difficulty down the road.
  4. We will know in a couple of years about Grimes.
  5. I have seen Grimes a couple of times so I may not have a strong basis to make this statement but if people think JJ had problems with commitment to hard work and consistency, Grimes has a complete aversion to those ideas.
  6. I think it is interesting to note the sentiment about Brad's input as well as that from other coaches into the selection of the new A.D. If U.S.F. applied that thinking into the selection of Woolard, he probably would not have gotten the job there.
  7. Bhremer also coached the Bills succeeding John Bennington. When he left the program was in a shambles.
  8. Why is a scholarship going to become available tomorrow?
  9. I will add another comment to this line of thinking. As long as the board relates to SLU sports or any SLU activity, that would interesting to read or ignore if the interest is not there but posts and comments should be relevant to SLU. If somebody wants to write about unrelated topics find the appropriate venue.
  10. These kinds of and diatribes and general B.S. will drive me off this board. If you have your political opinions, that is great but write the New York Times or the Post Dispatch. Keep it off this board.
  11. If this weekend was a dead period or downtime for recruiting and visits, what is the story on the other scheduled visit this weekend?
  12. I heard he is a definite committement now. Possibly the departure of McKee opened a scholarship for Gasparic.
  13. There was an announcement of signing another player in this morning's P-D. He is a goal tender from Webster Groves H.S. I do not have the paper with me an I cannot remember his name but his coach is a former Bill's player.
  14. This episode sounds reminiscent of the Don Imus situation. Supposedly, Imus invited Kerry to appear but Kerry declined. Imus accused Kerry's staffers for not telling Kerry because Kerry would certainly have accepted. Imus proceeded to blast Kerry and the next day Kerry called and told Imus he was correct that his staffers did not tell him of the invite and Kerry would be happy to appear. The next day Kerry appeard they sucked up to each other and Imus has been supporting Kerry ever since.
  15. You made an excellent point regarding the timing of conference realignment and the positions of the sports media pundits. That is the reason you always have to be skeptical of opinions of the so-called experts.
  16. It could still happen. The exception is that one of them will not be Gonzaga.
  17. Following that reasoning, you have to question awarding a # 1 seed to Stanford which Packer endorsed. It seems to me that if you believe Stanford deserved a # 1, you have a hard case arguing against St. Joe.
  18. During the telecast, Packer also made the point that he felt that Oklahoma State (I refused to say or write Ok. State) deserved the # 1 seed. It seems that he cannot give up the ghost and admit he was wrong.
  19. All teams can continue to practice until the end the NCAA tournament. I think the practice of most coaches is end practices after they are eliminated. In Feinstein's book about Bobby Knight, "Season on the Brink" he made the point that Knight forced his to continue to practice until the last legal date which was the day of the NCAA final. I believe Indiana was eliminated early that year and Knight was not satisfied how they finished the year.
  20. The game between Memphis State and Providence in the semis was one of the most exciting games I ever saw. Providence jumped to big early lead but when Barnes got hurt (I believe a knee injury)Providence did not have a force inside and Memphis eventually took control of the game. Another memory from that year was that the Bills played Memphis in the final regular season game at Kiel. The Bills won 70 to 56.
  21. I have a brief story regarding this issue. My wife and I were at a "Tip Off" club get together at Humphrey's. This was shortly after Brad was receiving some heat for not recruiting Ahearn and reportedly Steiner was upset. During his comments, Brad remarked that he was talking with Steiner recently about something related to his comments but my wife's observation was that in actuality, Steiner was probably trying to recruit Brad's son who we had heard was a pretty good player.
  22. Triangleandtoo was pretty tough on Woolard. On the Notre Dame board there are some articles from a South Bend and Ft. Wayne newspapers that give some insights into the N.I.T. committees thinking on the selections of sites and other peripheral issues. Most of the problems and other issues that Triangle mentions are out of Woolard's control.
  23. One thing interesting about the South Bend native who lived in St. Louis is that he did not mention that he went to school at Notre Dame. I have always been a fan of N.D. especially in football (even though some N.D. alums can be arrogant) and a posting by a clown like the South Bend native cannot be taken too seriously.
  24. Schasz and davidlee, I graduated from St. James a few years before you. I finished in 1956 and stchuckbillike graduated in 1953. Schasz, I hope you enjoyed st. Pats in Florida.
  25. Just returned from the parade in Dogtown. This is my first year for the parade but not for Seamus McDaniel's / O'Shea's. What years did you go to St. James? If you remember O'Shea's, our times at St. James may have coincided. For the St. Charles Irish, I understand that Seamus McDaniel's is opening a place at Winghaven.
