  1. "We should never lose to Akron. Ever. Wake up, people." While that "sounds" like an accurate statment, Akron is doing something that the other schools are not. They essentially have an unwritten agreement with IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida. IMG Academy the home to the USA Under 17 squad. Any of their players that don't go professional after graduating high school, seem to end up at Akron. There is no shame is losing to that program. A comparable example would be like if SLU had a direct pipeline set up with Oak Hill Academy for basketball players, only this is on a larger scale in terms of the talent they gather. I do have a legit question about NCAA soccer. I attended the pre-season game where SLU squared off with SIUE. I was actually stunned at the level of violence/physicality of the game. I think there were only two yellow cards handed out. Is that the norm for NCAA soccer. You don't see a Premiership game in england have 2-3 shoving matches, that resulted in no cards being dealt. Was it because the game was considered a "friendly"? - long time reader, haven't posted in 10 years
  2. Hughes is on fire! 18 points with 4 minutes left in the first half. Ben Gordon has matched him. Check it out. Bulls/Wizards ..
  3. They're reporting it on Chicago radio ... bad news for that program ..
  4. Hey Roy, add Dan Gadzuric, Joel Pryzbilla, Rasho Nesterovic, Loren Woods, Jason Collins, Jarron Collins, Tony Battie, Adonal Foyle, Curtis Borchardt, Stephen Hunter, and soon to be NBA'er Channing Frye to your list of NBA players without exceptional talent, but have made it. Oh, the list goes on too. Most NBA teams have a mediocre center. (Take Eddy Curry off your list, that guy is pretty good this year. He lost 50 pounds and is very nimble.) Anything is possible when you have IV's size, and hands, not to mention nationality (NBA teams have been buying foreign lately). I think Luke Schencher of GT would be a realistic example of what IV could turn into, and that guy causes a pain in the ass for most D1 teams. Shaq, Illgaukas, Yao Ming, Primo Brezec (breakout player of late on Charlotte), Ben Wallace, Brad Miller, Curry, and Dampier"?" round out the worthwhile "center's" in the NBA. Not much.
  5. Quick read linked below. Has a Q&A with Larry. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/basketball/...s-timeout_x.htm

  7. Isn't there still a chance that Ben Hans. will grow 4 or 5 inches? That could really change things ..
  8. Hey Bobby, If you're who I think you are, do you still want that Villanova shirt? Send me your address? -Scuba
  9. Bernie Wrote "Sophomore forward Will John and freshman defender Tim Ward are leaving St. Louis U.'s soccer team to sign on with the MLS Project-40 program, designed for underclassmen who leave school early. ... " on a more positive note .. "Former SLU goalkeeper Meghann Burke (Mehlville) is the starting goalie for the Bristol Rovers of the English women's premier division; they're currently in second place in the 10-team league." article http://www.stltoday.com/stltoday/sports/co...akes+good+sense
  10. I wasn't asking about you roy. we already knew where you would have stood on the question. i'm asking if there is that much interest, citywide, in a boxing match featuring a hometown kid. i'm sure tickets will be expensive.
  11. do you think the fight will sell out?? anyone?
  12. Did one of you guys call into KFNS during the "Nobody Asked Me But" segment? Someone just called and said "nobody asked me but shame on KFNS for not carrying the billikens game this afternoon"

  14. He signed with a Greek team, Olympiakos S.F.P. Pireus. Eurobasket Bio: http://www.eurobasket.com/GREplayer.asp?PlayerID=31728
  15. Does 6'8, 290 looks like a weight problem? I'm sure he has skills, but man, Soderberg would work him hard. He's worth a run at if his talent got him into Florida. They have no concept of what to do with big men down there.
  16. What kind of kid is Troy? Similar to his father? Anyone know? Kevin's gotta be very overbearing. I wouldn't want to trade places with Troy.
  17. Eurobasket.com , usbasket.com are related sites that are just huge database's that track all the data you'll ever need. Brown, Dobbs, Fergerson, Fisher, Heinrich, Hughes, Jeffers, Latimer, Love, and Perry pretty cool site
  18. They showed the game "tape delayed" today on Comcast Sports Net in Chicago. Was the game televised in St. Louis?
  19. Hey I know a lot of you have dislike for the NBA game, and really don't follow it all that much, but here's some of the gossip I've heard lately which would effect people in Tommie's age group. The NBA is heading for a lockout next season. Two things might change after a lockout 1. No "second" round in the NBA Draft. 2. We might see some Baseball-Like Draft Rules All rumors ... I think Tommie will get stuck at SLU (for three years at least), no matter how he does.
  20. Looks like the Spurs just signed another point guard in the last 24 hours. Mike Wilks. He'll be competing against Marque. Here's the info .. Wilks joins Spurs: Point guard Mike Wilks, waived by the Bulls last week, has agreed to terms with San Antonio. The Bulls are still on the hook for his $720,046 salary.
  21. I live up in C-Town and watched it live on TV. Luol Deng was fast breaking up the court and dribbled behind his back to avoid a defender, and as he was going up for an easy lay up ... Hughes, who had no chance to reach Deng, pushed Kirk Hinrich underneath Deng as he was in the air. Deng landed akwardly. It was very dangerous. It was thuggery on Hughes part. It was an NBA exhibition game. I'm not too proud of my fellow MCC alum. Then, Kirk Hinrich got up in the face of Hughes. Hughes pushed Hinrich. Then, Brendan Haywood of the Wizards pushed Hinrich. Chaos ensued. The refs threw out the wrong people. Hughes will get suspended though.
  22. I believe that NBA squads keep 15 players. They have 12 active players and 3 reserves that practice, but don't travel with the squad. Their contracts aren't guranteed, so they tend to cycle in and out depending on injuries and "team need." But he'll make the league minimum (not bad for a 23 year old) if he makes it. He's got a shot at that. Correct me if I'm mistaken.
  23. NBA Exhibition Season Started Here are Marque's stat lines so far. Anyone know who he's fighting with for one of the final spots? He has 4 more games to make an impression. Game 1 vs Knicks: Min = 12 FG = 0-3 PT = 0 Reb= 0 Assist = 4 TO = 3 Stl = 1 Game 2 vs Suns: Min = 8 FG = 0-0 FT = 1-2 PT = 1 Reb= 1 Assist = 0 TO = 0 Stl = 0 Game 3 vs 76ers: Min = 11 FG = 1-3 PT = 2 Reb= 0 Assist = 2 TO = 1 Stl = 1 Blk = 1
  24. People tend to criticize the AAU teams that play more games than have practices. That's the issue. If you don't practice it results in a flashy run'n'gun style which doesn't exactly stress fundamentals.
