  1. simply telling a kid what classes to take is not a violation. I'm sure SLU has assisted prospective athletes on the courses needed to be eligible. Hell, I'm sure we told Brandon Morris what he needed to take to become eligible. Now if they helped him pass any of those classes...
  2. we only used 4 scholarships this past year, right?
  3. is that all the CUSA bottom feeders got to play Cinci, Marquette, Louisville and Memphis while the MVC schools did not. You have always stated you didn't like the RPI because it helps the big-time conferences and hurts the smaller ones. I'd love to see what the RPIs of the bottom CUSA schools would be without those games.
  4. was diagnosed by a neutral party to have a leaning disability. By the law (Americans with Disabilitites Act) he is allowed to take an untimed ACT, which he passed. The NCAA, in its infinite wisdom, didn't buy the disability however and thus Tatum ended up sitting 1.5 years while any other player would have only sat one year. There is a LOT of smoke around the Mizzou program but I don't think it is fair to say EVERY recruit has smoke around him. that being said, this Horton thing really stinks in my opinion unless daddy horton paid for everything on his visit to St. Louis. I think it is fair to assume that the Mizzou program, or large boosters of the program have donated to DJ's foundation. If the foundation is then paying daddy Horton (whether through plane tics, hotels, or appearance fees) you essentially have the Charity acting as a middle man. This is 100% speculation (but not necessarily crazy speculation) but if only hard facts are to be discussed on internet boards they would all be silent.
  5. just his dad who was such a special coach he had to be brought in from Texas for a charity game. Who paid for what is just speculation on my part and if Mr. Horton paid for everything then I have no problem with it. Anything more than that though...
  6. from this board it may be from the Demtrious Johnson All-Star game a month ago. If you'll remember the coach of the National team was Jason's dad although Jason's dad was otherwise unaffiliated with the national team. Much like how Demetrius flies in Billiken and Mizzou recruits to play in this game, he specially brought Mr. Horton in to coach the game. Now technically there is nothing illegal with this scenario but if people can't realize that there is something immoral about a "charity" paying for the flight and hotel room of an out of town coach when a local guy could have done it for free then they are blind. And if Mr. Horton received an "appearance fee" for coaching then Mizzou did nothing but launder payments to Jason through the Demetrious Johnson charitable foundation to Jason's father. Now, if Jason's father received no appearance fee and paid for his own flight and hotel room then I will agree there is no problem. But knowing Mizzou, I kind of doubt it.
  7. can taketh away. If Quin has enough power to get a convicted felon that shoots to much and isn't very tall a European contract then surely he could get the same team to drop that contract if Rickey talked. I don't know if Quin is that powerful yet, but it was your suggestion.
  8. Blue: SLU Depaul Marquette Cinci White: Louisville Memphis Charlotte Red: UAB Southern Miss Tulane South Florida Houston joined the White a year later.
  9. The deposition was taken in March for Christ sake. If Quin wanted a clean program he should have walked up to the compliance officer 10 minutes after the deposition and said "the DA just asked me if I knew anything about Lane Odom paying Rickey cash. Can you look into this. And oh, by the way I was asked about some clothes I gave Rickey." The truth is, Mizzou, from Alden on down was hoping this whole thing would go away. Thats why its such b.s. when Mizzou claims they "self-report" the violations. They haven't self-reported anything until after the Post dispatch discovers it. That isn't self-reporting.
  10. of course it may leave the stadium less then full for the biggest game of the year.
  11. would be great but I'm not sure that either is going to happen. If Meyer came to me tommorrow and said I want to be a Billiken I'd take that over waiting on the possibility of Liddell choosing SLU (he's got a lot of good choices out there) and then the possiblity of him qualifying. Give me the sure thing.
  12. It sounds to me like Luke is waiting to hear from Stanford. can't say I blame him considering they are a better program and a better school. Hopefully his parents will want to see him play near home. I don't know if anyone knows this but with the Stanford admission requirements do these players do an early admission or something? Most admissions aren't done until the Spring but obviously most ballers won't wait until then. I'm sure that Montgomery has indicated he has an offer in hand if he qualifies. I hate to ever hope a kid doesn't get accepted to a chool, but...
  13. The statement that most jumped out at me was Alden's the day he kicked Rickey off the team when he said, "Quin has assured me there is nothing left to hide" or something of that jist. Now from a timing standpoint, he knew at that point the Post was requesting the deposition transcripts and I assume he knew about the line of questioning concerning the clothes, the money and the cheating withing the deposition. If he did not know about the questions that came up in the depostion he is probably about ready to fire Quin right now. I find it hard to believe Q wouldn't have mentioned to Alden that Bunge claimed Rickey cheated and took cash and the DA questioned him about it. It stands to reason then that none of the last week's news was really news to Alden. For that reason, I think Q's job is safe for now. Of course, if these allegations are proven or substantiated then Alden will have no choice but to fire him because Q lied directly to him. That is my take on it.
  14. but I would guesstimate with 95% probability that Lorenzo and Cameron did not do the same activities here that they did at Washington. Thing is is though, that Mizzou has already been proven to do that kind of stuff. Whether it is Lane Odom calling Rickey Clemmons 50 times during a 12 week period when you are only allowed 1 call per week or Quin jumping the gun on Conley, or the free flights for AJ and Paulding's mom's, or the "accidental" bump into with McBride during a dead period, Mizzou's recruiting has been shady from day one. The NCAA hasn't deemed any of these incidents to be major in their own right (the Conley thing is still under review despite his reinstatement) but where there is smoke there is fire. There has never been any smoke at SLU so thats why we find it hard to believe anything could be going on. The biggest piece of smoke people have on us is us not wanting to publicly disclose any secondary violations.
  15. in terms of actual punishment handed out, (Although it would not be beyond the NCAA to come down harshly on Mizzou for the shoes and clothing not because those in themselves are serious but because they believe, yet can't prove, Bunges allegations) but the fact that someone who obviously has intimate knowledge of the prgram and players says these things should scare the hell out of Mizzou fans. Here's my thing with Bunge, when she gave this deposition she was trying to win a court case against Rickey. The last thing she wanted to do is make up some stories about Quin Snyder and Lane odom that the defense team could later use to show that she was a liar. And because these stories did little to improve her case she has no reason to lie. She may have been mad at the Mizzou Atheltic Dept. but would you risk Clemmons going free just to get in a jab or two at Quin? If her goal was to bring down Mizzou she would have shceduled a press conference the day after he pleaded guilty and said what she knew. Its a sad day when fans portray this abuse victim as some sort of criminal in the whole process. As for the Lane Odom thing. She says she never told the prosecutor it was Lane Odom. It sounds to me like he was fishing (he used the words "what if I told you Rickey received cash from Lane" instead of "she claims Rickey received it from Lane." So far this girl has been nothing but truthful in the happenings so I for one believe her.
  16. First of all, who knows if Shaw has actually been offered. P-Diddy is generally right on stuff but the buddy of his could be wrong. Secondly, who knows if when the article was written SLU had offered. Thirdly, who knows if the term "high-majors" was Shaw's or the writers. Matt could have said "I have offers from SLU, SIU, SMS, etc. but am still waiting to hear from a couple others." The author could interpret that as high-majors. Personally, I think Billiken fans have ben pretty arrogant when it comes to his recruitment with statements like "surely he'll pick us over SIUC", and "he isn't CUSA material" and a basic assumption that if we offer him he'll certainly accept. Quite frankly a school like SIUC that has been hot on his trail since day 1, has been dancing the last 2 years, and hasn't waited till just now to offer has a lot to offer. Hopefully we haven't blown this one.
  17. certainly muddles things a bunch. If it was just public accusations and denials that is one thing but both the girl and the coaches have testified under oath to different things. Somebody must have been lying. Strangely there has been no word on what Clemmons testified to under oath. That may hold the key. If he starts testifying that he took cash Mizzou is screwed. If he remains silent or testifies that he didn't take money then Mizzou will be fine.
  18. http://www.columbiatribune.com/2003/Aug/20030801News006.asp Apparently Bunge (the victim) also claimed that Clemons was given answers to Barton county exams in advance. Personally, I don't believe that anybody smart enough to pass 24 hours in 2 weeks would need to cheat.
  19. The powers that be at Ole Mizzou are certainly covering their backside on this issue. Last week Alden was quoted as saying "Quin and Odom have guaranteed nothing illegal has been done with Clemmons" and now Quin is quoted as saying he has no knowledge of Odom's actions. If you can't see that Odom is going to be the fall guy on the whole Clemmons saga people are blind. The shoes and what not are stupid and minor. That being said other schools have gotten in trouble for less. Still, this article will only amount to something of the cash stories are true and unless Clemmons starts talking Mizzou fans have nothing to worry about (in regards to this article).
  20. I'm sure you are looking at the population of the city only. The metropolitan St. Louis area is between 2.5 and 3 million. I'm sure those other cities will also increase but St. Louis' urban sprawl makes those numbers look silly. We are a much bigger city then Indy.
  21. If there is any dirt, and I'm not saying there is, Clemmons effectively hold's Quin's job in his hands.
  22. He squarely put all of the blame (if there is any blame to be had) on Quin's shoulders if something does come up. Speaking hypothetically, if something did come out, he would have little choice but to discipline or even fire Quin, since it would mean that Quin flat-out lied to him.
  23. is how they can both be ranked #8. I could of sworn Brandon Rush was a senior to be. Can anyone confim he is only a junior to be. That is very exciting news about Polk. He must have had a good camp.
