  1. tsueg obviously has it in for me these days. Old Fart, well, as you used to say way back when, heavens to Betsy, tseug little old spring chicken. You like Romar so much, why don't you move to seattle and cheer on them ol huskies. You think the 'zo years were so great, well then we have different definitions of great. Of course, that's just the old fart in me coming out. He's probably going to blame this year's failure on Cameron Dollar's inability to recruit hs sophomores, or just call his team a bunch of lunch pail blue collar kids.
  2. Now that does tug at your heart strings...Guess, UB knew what kind of player Brandon really was. Too bad he couldn't or wouldn't hit the books over the summer.
  3. What was really interesting was 'Zo's comment: "Hopefully we will realize we are not ready to win in the PAC10 yet".... say what? Hello? Wonder how that statement went over with the Huskie faithful? I'll bet Barbara Hedges is thinking: "Damn, I got the wrong one from St.Louis. Should have gone after their assistant coach."
  4. ...The Bombshell Billiken Babes! The Bodacious Billiken Babes! The Dancing Billybabes! The Billikenettes(take off on the Rockettes, this couldn't possibly offend her),
  5. Never underestimate the power of mighty Q. If this guy ever quits coaching he's got the makings for a used car salesman.
  6. Thank God, all three in the fold. UB brings in a 6'8-6'-9" pf in the spring and SLU is climbing the mountain, baby! Watch out A-10 here come the Billikens! Please, Tommie, qualify and satisfy. This is just a gut feel here, but I think Meyer's, who often gets overlooked in this class, is going to be a big plus for us. I'll wager he's a barracuda on D and will provide us with some three's before all is said and done. One question, and please don't jump on me about this, but is anyone else wondering why Mizzery's three other recruits did not submit their LOI's? Could it be these guys are a little hesitant to sign with a program that is under the NCAA microscope? Once a kid gives a verbal, is he off limits to other schools? Or can they still pursue him officially. My guess is not, but it wouldn't stop "unofficial" wooing efforts by alumni, boosters, etc., or more likely insinuating to the recruit, "Well, you know Mizzery may have some big problems ahead of them." Just wondering, since Q didn't pocket all his letters.
  7. I meant to say he can still sign the LOI without having qualified, right?
  8. Tommy please don't jilt us. Is there a problem here? Why isn't young Mr. Lidell putting his John Hancock on the LOI? Is this just paranoia on my part or did something develop? He can sign the LOI and still have qualified right?
  9. out of towners are dying out here for info on what's up with the Bills. Here are questions everyone is looking to you St.Louisians to for answers: 1.) Frericks back..is he OK? 2.) JJ's attitude. Has UB had him on the couch yet and are the sessions helping? 3.) What is the tenor of the practices? 4.) What's UB's attitude; outwardly po'd but inwardly liking how things are going? 5.) Is CS' or IO's ankle going to be a problem? 6.) How's DC doing? Any progress for the freshman? 7.) Will Ian be a help or mostly a work in progress this year? All this stuff about the A-10 is great but we can get that from ESPN. We want the really important stuff...how's this year's squad shaping up? Is there a Tennessee Martin looming in our future?
  10. tsueg lighten up a little. I'm beginning to think you took over moderator duties from Thicks. I don't see what's wrong with someone giving a report on practice as long as they don't humiliate anyone. I think UB's got a little of the General in him, without the temper tantrum problems. Also, who on this board doesn't know this team is not going to out athletic many of our opponents. Their wins will come as the result of hard work, good D, and a tough mental attitude of "refuse to lose". Oops, hope Calipari doesn't sue me over the use of his copyrighted phrase.
  11. for the GT game. At this time, I'm planning on going...also to Charlotte on 1/28.
  12. I don't wish MU or DePaul(still can't figure why they got an invite other than they are in Chicago)bad tidings in the BE. Crean's a great coach and has shown a lot of loyalty to MU (granted some of it paid for)by not looking at Illinois or Kansas jobs. That said, I do sense a patronizing attitude on the part of MU fans toward us. I do hope they are on a home-home basis with us in 2005-06 but doubt they will do it. I expect they will schedule a couple of national power teams (Duke, KY, etc)and fill in the rest with cupcakes for their non conf schedule. Their conference schedule will be a killer so they don't need to worry too much about the RPI of their opponents, hence no reason to take a chance on playing a tough SLU team.
  13. Granted, success on the court is the bottom line. But I still feel conference affiliation is an important factor in recruiting, exposure, and dance invites. I felt for the College of Charleston last year when they went 26-5, won the Great Alaska beating Villanova and OK state, but lost out on a bid to the dance because the SOCON is virtually locked into one bid for their tournament winner. That said, I like the like minded school concept and the A-10 will definitely make SLU a better known university on the east coast.
  14. The A-10 was the best option for us. Granted there are some bottom feeders, but every conference has those. It's a shame the BB only schools in the BE and CUSA couldn't have used this opportunity to have created the Papal + Charlotte conference we wanted, but that may happen in the future. So, Good Luck and good riddance to UL, UC, MU, DeP, and Sfl. Welcome XU, Dayton, Temple, Umass, Rhody, et al. I do agree with ESPN the BE is a powerhouse BB conference, probably the strongest in the country. But we have improved our hoops outlook as well. Here's hoping some of the lower rung A-10 schools crank it up a notch and it becomes a top tier league. And here's hoping the Billikens continue to improve under UB, who should now be relatively happy, and win a few A-10 titles and tourneys. Go Bills!!!! ps Steve you have to be estatic, but are you the GW signguy or the Billiken sign guy?
  15. Yes, I very much like Fish and Sloan, tseug. But ocassionally you would like to see a coach recruit a player that has the potential to make all conference, second team all conference, maybe honorable mention all conference. Now, I'm not saying Pulley was that guy. But out of all of 'Zo's recruits he possibly had the best chance. So, I'll stand by my previous post and repeat, aaaahhh the irony of it all, zo's best "potential" recruit to SLU ends up at Mizzery. By the way no slam on Mizzery was intended in that post. I'm trying hard not to offend your show me state sensibilities.
  16. Ok, I think I have this one: MVC, Metro, Great Midwest, MCC, and CUSA. Not sure they are right chronologically, but it's 3:42 am here. Why am I up?
  17. Does it seem fair? Where is the justice? Give me a break!@#*^)$! Let's say Pulley goes on to do great things for Mizzery. Here's a guy, who could have turned out to be 'Zo's only legit decent recruit into SLU and he ends up playing for Mizzery, who may well contend for a national title? Randy Pulley on a ladder with a pair of scissors in his hand in late march on prime time national TV cutting down a net. Aaaahhhh, the irony of it all.
  18. because it's a slow day in Charleston. But as far as data points goes, you got to admit we have a full data bank on player's from last night's game. Just trying to summarize.
  19. last night's game? RB-Forget the MP comparisons, he's is own guy, who is a good combo of outside shooter and can get inside ocassionally. And his pants are too long. CS-Lives up to what we expect, hardnosed, the leader, we're solid with him on the court. I think his motivation this year is to make it to the dance...his final shot. RV-Some good, some bad. Needs more aggressive attitude on the boards and on D? Surprising, seeing as how was an allstate tight end. AD-No doubt every game he proves more of a steal, will be a big factor on this year's team. JF-Again, solid. Outstanding D. Leader like CS. Frerick's-Jury still out on whether he is a replacement for KB's defense? A touch better offensively IO-Going to surprise some people, but his D better improve? Clarke-Freshman, but looks to have all the tools. Ian-Just not enough to comment on? JJ-We're still waiting, but not expecting much even when his train arrives?
  20. Thanks for easing my concerns. I'd still like to see JJ step up and give us some quality minutes (say 10-12 mpg), because until Ian shows up we don't have much to fall back on.
  21. A lot of us have expressed reservations about our inside game this year. None of us think this is going to be our strong point (when has it been since AB graduated?)but we know we've got to get some O production out of there and definitely need strong interior D (ala K Brown). I'm having some second thoughts on what I thought would be an adequate interior game this year, to now where I think it may be a real weakness that opponents will take advantage of (especially in CUSA play). If Frericks has to foul to play D, if he is really only 6'7", if JJ is a headcase, RV has shown he has trouble defending inside, and Ian, who will have to do OJT, won't be available until after New Years....we could be looking at some real difficult games. Hope I'm not being a Chicken Little hear, but this is an area of concern when we'll be facing the likes of Whaley, AZ's all McD front line, GT's formidable front, etc....it's scary out there.
  22. You really think he's only 6'7". Hmm that's a pretty short front line.
  23. UB is trying to create an optical illusion here with the long pants. Make the player look shorter than he really is, lulling the opponent into a false sense of security? Just a thought.
  24. 4 in double figures sounds promising. Frericks problems sound scary, foul trouble and health...that back thing is worrisome...bad backs just keep hanging on. 22 turnovers, I expect UB will fix that. From this it looks like we're the same Billikens. Stingy D and low scoring affairs. Got to like the double double by Sloan.
