  1. Agree totally, David. It's called ROI (return on investment). Make it Father Larry.
  2. Al, Bill played in the early 70's. 6'5" or something like that. I knew a couple of guys that went to Vianney with him. They told me he was recruited by Mizzery and a couple of other small schools. He supposedly said, the only school I ever wanted to play for was SLU. He was on Polk's teams and was very solid.
  3. no word from Grand. No word from Milwaukee. The silence is deafening. It is still tough being a Bills' fan...until we sign RM. The longer this drags on, the more it scares you.
  4. From the post above, China too...he can congratulate you in Mandarin.
  5. I'm thinking BM he wants UB back, so he can rip on us year in and year out for NOT trying to attain the goal of top 50 program? I think BM's worried we may land RM, and he'll have nothing bad to say about SLU for a long time. We've been his whipping boy long enough....get it done, Father Larry, please get it done. Bogut's complaining that RM made him a better basketball player, but he doesn't like him. Big deal.
  6. Great idea! Where do I get one? Also, if RM comes you could tie this in with the movie Casablanca. Remember Sidney Green wore a fez all the time. You could call the student cheering section "Rick's Cafe". Too bad SLU doesn't have an Ashley Judd. Hey, maybe we could give an honorary degree to Charlize Theron or Halle Berry. I can see it now, signs saying "You're gonna get Fezzed at the Fetz!"
  7. I think that relates only to scholarships, but not sure. But how would you measure the women's field hockey team at Ohio State getting as many $$ as the football team? Then again it may be a pro rata deal. Good question though, but I don't think it's apples to apples. For example, spent a week end at Pinehurst about a month ago. There was a collegiate golf tournament going on. Some big 10 teams were in it. They all rode in large vans with Univeristy markings. Doubt they flew in on a charter, however, they were staying at the resort, which is a far cry from Motel 6.
  8. They're addressing 3 points right now. Admission of marginal students; travel style; and coaches. Again, this will be a whole new landscape if we get RM.
  9. You get Jai Lucas, you also get that PF from WV that KY's after. He played with Mayo. I read in SI they're going as a package deal. You don't think RM and John Lucas paths' haven't crossed a couple of times over the years? Pass the RM kool aid, I'm getting light headed.
  10. He lives in hotels, unwed, knows Ashley Judd, never found a pizza he didn't love...I'm envious.
  11. Don't forget the multiple NCAA appearances and the run to the final 4.
  12. No doubt, whoever takes over is going to find the talent cupboard a touch bare. How do we replenish at this point is the question. Does anyone know if Angres is out there imploring UB's recruits, who haven't committed, to keep their options open? Like, "hey, you see who the next HC might be? You might want to hold off on signing any LOI's for the time being." Of course, these guys are on the B and C lists, and RM may decide not worth a scholarship. Here's another event that may occur if RM takes it. He's got some scholarship players on the roster, no need to mention any names, that might not be up to his standards and could be replaced by frosh or JUCO's that he really wants. Could we see scholies being pulled? Anderson did it at Mizzou. Cremmins did it at CofC. I think if this get's done, we will be witnessing a whole new world.
  13. Yeah, but Martha Ingramm's on your board. That's one very rich widow, Nashville.
  14. Burwell always seems fair to me when writing about the program. He's been complimentary and critical but always right on. Unlike some others.
  15. that all can agree on, including us on the board and casual Billiken fans, is that the program has never made the full commitment required to reach the goal of "top 50." I believe the construction site off I40 has finally flipped on the light switch for the powers that be. How many more $$$ is it going to take to make SLU a legit force in college hoops; $1mm, $2mm? This seems a small % when compared to $80mm+ in capital outlay and meeting the monthly overhead bill. This is why I think RM will get what he asks for if he takes the job. Big "IF" though.
  16. How many programs could survive that sort of scrutiny and nit picking?
  17. Do you really think we or he would go this far, ie he's deciding if he wants the job, that these details would not have been worked out this weekend? I think the bold move to fire UB at this point indicates SLU, read Fr. Biondi, is desperate to pull off another bold move. I think whatever RM asked for he got or it was negotiated to his liking. It sounds now it's does he really want to return to coaching, and if SLU is the team he wants to coach.
  18. RM would be the best choice. He ain't John Wooden or Dean Smith, but who is?
  19. I don't think any AC is going to cut much mustard with the area's '08 class. Thinking more as a parent than a kid, who would you rather see your son link up with for four years: Billy Donovan or Cuonzo Martin? I think this is where a name like Rick Majerus does better.
  20. According to Broy, Spoon was no day at the beach when it came to schmoozing either. He did have good relations with the local media though. In fact I remember his show w/ Karraker. He was a media darling.
  21. From recent comments by Frank and other posters, it sure seems he didn't go after recruits as hard as the people he was competing against.
  22. RI's not private. Is Temple private or public? I believe it's a state school.
  23. Said a real fine gentlemen. Very good man. He'd like to see him coach at the Patriot League level. Says he would do very well in that environment. Sounded more like a compliment to his x's and o's but not his ability to recruit high level talent. I still sense on this board there are some who are bitter that he was let go. Not just in the manner, but the fact he's no longer SLU's HC.
  24. Decourcy said if you're expecting someone to rub elbows with the fans, local media, etc., he's not the guy to do it. Evidently he strained relations with the Salt Lake media at the end of his career. Wait until he sees what BM does to him if he doesn't win here.
  25. He said that he was from Ohio. You're right 3 star he did seem to be pushing the KSU guy more.
