  1. Well, I think I had us 23-7 or 22-8. Heck of a season. To all us Billiken fans a big round of applause: God knows we deserve this. And please don't let the parade stop now. Go into AC and open a can of whoop arse on both UMyass and Temple Beth.
  2. What's the diagnosis on RM? He's in St.L or a Pitt hospital?
  3. Rossino's was classic. Still the best toasted ravs I've ever had.
  4. Conk started out of total necessity. If IV had been on that team, he'd have started as well. I'll grant IV made a huge leap, but it was more the summer of Greek coaching than anything else.
  5. This thread should have expired 9 years ago when Mizzery didn't follow up the success of the 3 game series that ended on such a high note for St.L basketball fans. Not a high note from a W standpoint as Stokes got lucky at the end, but it had everyone in the media screaming to make this game an annual event. Needless to say, it never happened.
  6. You nailed it, Bill. When I visited campus in January I took a walk down Grand and noticed across the street from the Fox the little steak house was still open. It's definitely upgraded it's storefront. But every time I watched the SNL skit on cheeseburger.... cheeseburger... cheeseburger, it reminded me of that place. You stood in line and watched 'em cook your steak, no waitresses or waiters. I'm not sure of their nationality but the guys who ran it all sounded Greek. But for like $2.49 you got a steak, granted a little girzzly on the edges, a baked potato, they didn't charge extra for sour cream and butter, and a big slice of Texas toast. You were living large when you went there for a steak dinner.
  7. Forgot RL. You can see he's getting more physical, but still aways from being the ideal RM big, physical guy with a nice touch from the perimeter. Am sure his development will speed up this summer, as he seems to be the type who wants to get better.
  8. He gets my vote. Others that come to mind are IV, but his development before his outstanding JR year took place the summer he played for Greece in the worlds. But then he took a bit of a dive his SR year. TL did develop an outside shot under UB, but it didn't hold up under RM. KL just made steady progress that was barely noticeable since he was the complete package from the day he arrived on campus. Still, I wish RM had him for 4 years. Heinrich comes to mind, but he seemed to fall off from his JR year to his SR year. Mo Jeffers had a breakout SR year, but I think that was due more to becoming the go to guy after Love departed. You can't teach guys how to fly. Baniak never reached his full potential. He'd show us flashes of what might have been then disappear. For the longest time it seemed no Billikens made the consistent strides that BC has. But also on this team you can see improvement in CE, MM, DE (although it's up and down), and JJ. KM made a big leap his SO year because he had to. I'm not sure where he is on the development scale right now, but maybe because he doesn't need to be the man it's just harder to spot. KC, as much as we all appreciate him, has just seemed to be on a level path. CR's development is still a work in progress. Hopefully, next year is his breakout season, because we're gonna need him. So, all this proves is RM is a BB professor emiritus.
  9. I had a couple of accounting classes w/ Joe. Pretty sure he dropped out of SLU as he got the itch to open the bar. Fridays was a little corner grocery store, but can't remember the name. I don't recall the others being open when I left SLU in May of '72. But Fridays was a welcome addition to the SLU campus. As for Bogarts, I had a good friend who got involved with the guy that opened the first one. He then went to work as his accountant as Bogarts started to expand. He eventually became a part owner of the one at LaClede's landing. Did quite well for himself.
  10. Just win at the Dookies place and shut him up.
  11. Chris May should call Debbie Yow and get her opinion on what SLU should do. I think Debbie would say be aggressive and try and put the best conference together you can. That conf would not include the likes of UWM or UWGB or Cleveland St or Or the University of Iowa at BumF*&^ Egypt. There are teams out there that, while they may not consider SLU a rival, the fans of ST Louis would consider them to be our rival. ND would be at the top of that list.
  12. That had to be ugliest game I ever saw. We were absolutely a no show for that game.
  13. Does this season mark the first time we've ever swept X? This would include the old MCC days when they always seemed to have their way with us even when we had Bonner.
  14. Definitely props to KC for putting the team above his ego. And, yes Virginia, he has made layups just too damn few of them. That was the frustrating thing about him w/ RM last year and it spilled over to this year, but in Anaheim he was a different player. I don't know what happened to him after that. I still think there's a destiny game or two for him where he comes up big for us. Who wouldn't want KC to be the guy to nail a buzzer beater that knocks off a KY or a Duke in a game to get to the sweet 16 or, dare I say it, the elite 8?
  15. No, Taj Mahal, I'm not the Wiz. But for SLU it's finish at Duquense with a W. They should be really on a high after last night's win, but not the kind of high that makes this a trap game. Just a, we ain't gonna lose no mo' games mentality. Get a couple of more W's in the tourney, although a sweep and a trophy would be some sweet icing on the cake for us all, especially Conk and Cassity. Since the Pac 12, the ACC, even the Beast are gonna be down in the number of their usual annual "passes" into the dance, I don't see how the A-10 is only gonna be a one bid pony. I'm of the belief last night's W sealed the deal for us, despite the brain cramp we suffered in Rhody.
  16. Disagree. Mack's job is to make sure his minions play with discipline. That whole UC affair was started/initiated by Lyons at the end of the first half when he went gangsta on the UC bench. Mack should have sat him for the first five minutes of the second half just to let him know that's not acceptable behavior for a rep of Xavier University. He didn't and the whole mood just got uglier and uglier. As for post game, no player should have been allowed in the media room per Mack's orders.
  17. Jeez, this is the best conference a supposed veteran knowledgeable sports journalist could come up with for the hometown team? Shameful. The best mid west options for SLU if the A-10 takes a nosedive are as follows: 1.) If they want to go to the trouble to start a new conference you band with X and Dayton and try to coax Butler, Creighton, Valpo, Detroit, Chicago Loyola, Bradley, and Drake to form basically a private school Mid West conference. Yes, there are some weak sisters in that mix, but overall it's got some quality and rivalry appeal. 2.) Join the MVC. 3.) Or SLU really thinks big time and goes to Marquette, DePaul, and ND (yes, that ND)along with X, Dayton, Butler, Creighton and SLU for a very strong 8 team league w/ national appeal and located in major midwest markets. You want to fill the Fetz for every conference game this alignment would do it. This option might also make schools like Georgetown and Nova think about merging their BB only schools to form a mega conference of BB only schools with East and West divisons. Really, the Beast as it's being configured right now makes no sense at all. The only thing they have going for it is their guaranteed BCS bowl deal. If the other major conferences start adding more teams, the Beast will eventually lose this pearl.
  18. I'm envious, Moy, you got the biggest of W's in what must have been one glorious atmosphere... I still got the jinx to overcome. What a great win for the Bills, and for Conk and Cassity especially. Both great kids and what we all expect from SLU student athletes. I've got a confession to make, however, I lost faith last night. Having no feed, no access to CBS Sports, all I had was the GDT. When we were down by like 12, I lost it, turned off the old laptop, and went to bed. Figured I'd wake up and read all about why it's so hard to be a Billiken fan in the morning. I now have much penance to do. Way to go, Bills, my faith has been restored. God did smile on the Billikens last night.
  19. Yeah, help a Billiken Brother out here for those of you lucky enough to have something. Anything.
  20. Just win, baby. The rest will take care of itself. I really expect our D to shut down X completely.
  21. I'm with BayAreaB's take. The A-10 is probably in line for a minimum of 2 bids. They'd have a hard time picking X, even with all their tradition, over us if we've beaten them twice. Also, I do think the committee looks at how a team is closing out its season. If we appear to be stumbling and fumbling our way towards the finish line then our spot may well go to a team that appears to have momentum. This is the biggest regular season game I can recall since the 70-71 game against Louisville at the old Kiel with a tie for the MVC lead at stake. We beat UL that day before a standing room only crowd at Kiel, the most exciting Billiken game I'd attended during my college days. I'm hoping for the same result tonight.
  22. Nice to see our tax dollars our working for our Billikens instead of giving it to unappreciative countries in the form of foreign aid.
