  1. When he says "our own", it's difficult to discern whether he's referring to GW or the Atlantic 10 Conference. While perhaps our academic mission may not be identical to that of GW (I don't know enough about GW to say either way), it's safe to say that we are as strong academically, if not stronger, than the majority of the schools in the conference. Sounds like he could stand to do his homework.
  2. This is really hilarious and for some reason I am really intrigued by BilliLou. What exactly was the reason for creating this mascot?
  3. I wish I were old enough to have witnessed the Ekker days. These incidents sound pretty hilarious now, although I'm sure they must have been hard to stomach at the time. I want to hear more about BilliLou!
  4. And what happened to the Baby Billiken?
  5. From the Georgetown Athletics web site: What is a Hoya? Many years ago, when all Georgetown students were required to study Greek and Latin, the University's teams were nicknamed "The Stonewalls." It is suggested that a student, using Greek and Latin terms, started the cheer "Hoya Saxa!", which translates into "What Rocks!" The name proved popular and the term "Hoyas" was eventually adopted for all Georgetown teams.
  6. Ah, so we're throwing the Big East in here too? Isn't a Hoya a bulldog? He could take on the Drake Bulldog. I forgot that we have two teams with Golden Eagles mascots in our own conference - Marquette and Southern Miss. We could also have a free-for-all with all the schools who caved in to political correctness and changed their mascot - Marquette, St. John's, UAB (didn't they dump the human blazer mascot in favor of a dragon?)
  7. That Muskateer is pretty big, and he has a sword. That makes for a tough fight. Pirates are dangerous too. Now a fight between the Muskateer and the Pirate might be a good one. If you wanted a full and evenly matched fight card, I think our Billiken would have to fight the DePaul Blue Demon. The Bonnie could fight the Saluki, IL St. Redbird vs. Louisville Cardinal, St. Joe's Hawk vs. Marquette Golden Eagle, etc. I guess the Tulane Green Wave fights the Indiana St. Sycamore.
  8. That's a good question. Out of all the Valley mascots, I personally wouldn't mess with the Evansville Purple Ace. He bears a striking resemblance to a street pimp/gambler/thug, so if you cross him, he's likely to cut you. At the very least, he might introduce you to the back of his hand. He could easily have a .32 gun in his pocket for fun and a razor in his shoe.
  9. Well, including my newly purchased season tickets, we're at least +2. When do we receive our tickets anyway?
  10. So you're not an SMS fan, you're just a ****** bag. Got it, thanks for the clarification.
  11. UT-Martin beat us last year as well, but just like SMS, I wouldn't call them a better program.
  12. So SMS had a higher RPI than we did last year?
  13. I've noticed that in addition to the ad, a lot of the SLU-related materials that have been arriving in my mailbox lately (such as the homecoming mailer) look outstanding. Having worked with graphic designers for several years, I can tell that SLU has put together a talented creative staff. Keep up the good work!
  14. I don't think porn references are lost on any generation.
  15. We do have a great group here, and thanks for everything that you do for us. This has to be one of the most intelligent and respectful sports-related message boards I've ever seen. To someone like me who doesn't have much to contribute, it's an extremely valuable source of information. I find myself always bringing up bits of information that I've read here to friends and family members who are now under the false impression that I am some sort of knowledgeable basketball insider. I'd just like to thank everyone for making me look smart.
  16. I'm all for dressing to impress, but I'd much rather have the Bills suiting up in baggy shorts than 1970's, ABA-style nut-huggers any day. With the retirement of John Stockton, it may be a long time before we see those shorts again.
  17. I know! I just keep refreshing the page to see what news will pop up next. If we are able to land Liddell, hopefully our chances of getting Shaw will improve!
  18. Henry Kiel was once mayor of St. Louis.
  19. There are plans to rehab the Metropolitan Building, so that should be starting soon. It's supposed to be apartments, and you're right, residents is what the area needs most. Trampe is renovating the Medinah Temple as office/performing space for arts groups. He'll lease the space to the groups at a reduced rate. The Warehouse of Fixtures building was purchased a few years back by an out of town developer who had plans to build lofts there, but obviously, he's dragging his feet. Is the warehouse you're talking about the Hart Printing building - kind of an art deco - yellow/buff brick building?
  20. Yeah, that later became Jack in the Box, and that's been torn down too.
  21. I forget which temple is which, but there is one on Olive, just east of the Metropolitan Building that Trampe is about to rehab. Now that I think about it, I think it's a Medinah Temple, with the Moolah Temple on Lindell as you said. It's easy to overlook because its not nearly as impressive as the temples on Lindell.
  22. Exactly, I think it was called the Marina Building. It's a shame that it couldn't be saved too, it was a beautiful building. I have seen renderings for the building that will eventually be built there though, and it looks pretty nice - a combination of retail and residential.
