  1. That was pathetic. Dayton not only beat us on the court, but their fans showed us how real fans act at a college basketball game. What I don't understand about our fans is why so many of them just sit there the entire game without making a sound. All I ask is that people at least clap their hands when we make a good play, hit a free throw, etc. People get fired up about the goddamn mini-basketballs and Jimmy John's sandwiches that are thrown into the stands, but they can't bother to cheer for the team that they purchased tickets to watch. If you can't even bother to make a little noise, watch the game on tv, and don't give me the evil eye when I yell or clap. Save the old timer act for the Famous-Barr Tea Room. And why have the fans been so reluctant to adopt the S-A-I-N-T-L-O-U-I-S cheer that the band leads when they play "When the Saints Go Marching In"? It's a great cheer, but for whatever reason, our fans won't chant it. Can you imagine how cool it would be to hear 10,000 fans enthusiastically doing that cheer? Right now, the closest thing we have to fan involvement is for the "Jaws" hand-clapping. To the older fans - did you guys have organized cheers? If so, what were they? I've always found it surprising that SLU has so many kids from schools like SLUH and DeSmet who were rowdy fans at their high school games (some of the funniest, most creative cheers I've ever heard were at SLUH b-ball games), but when those same kids get to SLU, they act much differently at the games. It also didn't help that the Blue Crew turnout was about six people. I realize that Christmas break has started, but that was still pretty disappointing. There were far more Dayton kids there than there were SLU students. But hey, at least the COCA dancers at halftime were very good. The one kid looked just like Anthony Drejaj.
  2. I say that we should all congratulate the Billikens for putting up a good effort despite the hostile Dayton crowd. What's that, we were playing at home? Could've fooled me.
  3. You are correct, sir. Drejaj has got to go - Danny is clearly better. I was impressed with his defense today, and it was nice to see him do a little scoring as well.
  4. As the guys on the Guinness commercials would say, "brilliant!" This would be really cool too - if the game is on ESPN, you could use the letters E-S-P-N as the first letters of words! Or in our case... C H A R T E R Don't know how well that will fit on a sign though.
  5. I agree, although I think it's too early to say that DC has regressed. He's been injured and really never had a chance to play much before the Gonzaga game. I hope that we see more of him - it seems like he's never been left in a game long enough to get into a rhythm. I also didn't think that JJ looked all that bad out there against Gonzaga.
  6. I like your thinking. I think this team is capable of putting a nice run together at some point this season. Let's not lose hope already.
  7. Billikens Change Two Savvis Dates to Saturday Nights Cincinnati on Jan. 8, and Charlotte on Feb. 12, will be night games. Dec. 13, 2004 St. Louis - Saint Louis Billikens director of athletics Cheryl L. Levick today announced that two Conference USA men's basketball Saturday afternoon games have been rescheduled for night tip-offs at Savvis Center. The Billikens will now face C-USA contenders Cincinnati and Charlotte in the more highly desirable Saturday evening time slot. The Cincinnati game on Sat., Jan. 8, will begin at 7:10 p.m., and the Charlotte contest on Sat., Feb. 12 will start at 7:30 p.m. The night dates became available as a result of the National Hockey League lockout. Savvis is also home to the St. Louis Blues hockey team. "Savvis Center management has been extremely gracious in arranging for these night games, which impact our fans so positively," Levick said. "Although our fans have loyally attended the afternoon games, we have received plenty of feedback over the course of time that Saturday night events conflict less with family activities and individual work schedules. We're pleased to be able to move two high-quality opponents into a more attractive time frame." As a result, four of the Billikens' eight C-USA home dates this season will be played on Saturday nights. The two other Saturday night contests are TCU on Jan. 22, and DePaul on Feb. 5.
  8. I thought Luke Meyer looked good out there last night, even if it didn't show up in the box score. He really hustles and defended well, and the team played its best basketball when he was on the court. I also agree with what everyone has said about Husak. Even though he took some ill-advised jump shots against ORU, he was more athletic than I thought he would be, and was very disruptive under the basket.
  9. Qdoba is pretty good, but for that type of food, I would rather go to Tomatilla - a local chain.
  10. I'm dreading Wisconsin-Milwaukee this week. It baffles me how we miss so many layups - 10 in today's game. In one of the best plays of the game, Polk made a pretty no-look pass to Newbourne, who then made a quick pass to Drejaj, who was cutting towards the basket - he then proceeded to blow the easy layup.
  11. Another minor rant: the Savvis Center has banners that commemorate our NCAA and NIT appearances, however, the NIT banner does not reflect our 2003 and 2004 NIT appearances - 1996 is the last NIT shown. How hard is it to add those two years to the banner? The dating game was pretty bad, but at least the girl who hosted it was pretty hot.
  12. Absolutely disgraceful. If Tom hits ONE of the four thousand easy shots he missed, the game is ours. With about four minutes left in the first half, I said to my girlfriend, "I just hope we make it to 20 points in the first half." With about three minutes left, we hit 19 points and my girlfriend said, "Well, it looks like you're going to get your wish." Now, she is a relatively new Billiken fan and is still acclimating herself to watching our brand of basketball and laughed when I told her, "Don't count your chickens before they're hatched." It turned out I was right. Losing to Oral Roberts is hard to swallow. Yes, I realize that was a very bad joke, but I need a little humor to ease the pain right now...
  13. I think the man has a pretty valid point when it comes to the statues. The only statue that I really like is the Billiken statue in front of West Pine Gym.
  14. Goldschlager is actually cinnamon schnapps. Good stuff. I've done a lot of regrettable things under its influence.
  15. A kinda funny story from my dad, who was the team accountant for the Spirits of St. Louis, the ABA franchise that played here in the mid 70's. They had a player named Fly Williams who went to Austin Peay. Apparently, he signed with Austin Peay without ever having visited the campus, because when it came time for him to start school, he booked a flight to Austin, Texas, and at the airport hailed a cab and told the driver, "Take me to the Peay!"
  16. They did - they won the Ohio Valley Conference championship with a 22-10 overall record. Apparently, they've lost four out of five starters from last year's team. Still, based on our early season performances the last few years, we can't afford to take anyone lightly. I'm extremely excited that another season is about to begin. I probably would have gone to the Virgin Islands to watch the Paradise Jam this weekend, but I am the best man in a wedding tomorrow. Oddly enough, the bride and groom (both SLU alums) will be honeymooning in St. Thomas, so maybe they'll get to see the Billikens play!
  17. Polk seems like a really good kid - he's bright and energetic and should be a good leader for this team for the next four years. As much as I am a fan of all our players, it really is cool that our team will have a local flavor, both with this year's and next year's recruiting classes. After two exhibition games, it's clear that Polk and Meyer both have their own cheering sections. I've even seen people wearing Billiken blue Luke Meyer t-shirts. I'm sure Liddell and Lisch will have plenty of friends and family members in attendance when they join the team as well.
  18. I'd be perfectly happy with another 93-94-like winning streak to start the season!
  19. SLURadioBoy was right, the release originally mentioned the Rams. Now it says "in the NFL". Perhaps someone in the SID office has been surfing Billikens.com!
  20. I noticed that Grant Agbo plays for Truman State. Didn't we recruit him at one point?
