  1. I think it's hilarious how some of us try to make projections based on an hour of observation. C'mon guys, it's just one practice! I wouldn't be confident in projections based on three games, let alone one practice. Shouldn't Reggie Bryant's scoring success in the Big East be a better gauge for his potential contribution than a 15 minute scrimmage? Also, Ross Varner has been an impressive practice player for a couple of years now. That hasn't meant much in actual games.
  2. "my comments were wrong to make. my comments were in response to people posting comments about how good all three would be immediately and how all three were upgrades to kenny brown." Roy, maybe my memory is faulty but I don't remember any of the regulars saying that Husak would be good immediately or that he would be an upgrade to Kenny Brown. The board consensus has been "project" ever since he verballed -- an intriguing project but a project nonetheless.
  3. Fish 9 ppg Bryant 14 ppg Ohanon 11 ppg Sloan 9 ppg Frericks 7 ppg Drejaj 8 ppg Clarke 4 ppg Vouyoukas 4 ppg JJ 2 ppg Varner 2 ppg Total 70 ppg I think Varner and JJ will fight it out for most of the season for that 9th spot in the rotation. JJ is athletic but he can't really get his own shot. He'll be more effective in the coming years once he learns to either a) take his man off the dribble or score with his back to basket. This year he'll probably be limited to putbacks and finishing after the guards penetrate and draw his defender.
  4. It looks like our former point guard Randy Pulley is still overpenetrating. Hope he finds his niche with the Tigers. http://www.tigerboard.com/boards/missouri-...message=1048052 "But it's said that Pulley can shoot OK from close in. He did manage to drive inside twice, but he got stuffed twice."
  5. Roy I'm going to be laughing about that 3-sided jab the rest of the morning. That West Virginia game is going to be key. If our guys can get the best of them like they did at Savvis, the Billikens stand a very good chance of being 4-0 after the first four games. That would be a nice confidence boost to start off the season.
  6. Sorry, you must be thinking of someone else. I didn't go to La. Tech.
  7. I think the influence of both men has been overhyped on this board. They've shown themselves to be excellent administrators but no one gets what they want all the time.
  8. If Trach gets what he wants, then why hasn't GW been a good basketball team in five years?
  9. There is a big difference in getting a committment from Josh Fisher, an unranked kid who had already signed to play for Romar at Pepperdine and recruiting a top 50 player like Jamal Sampson, who was highly sought after by every school in the PAC 10. With that being said, the only local kid that I blame Romar for missing on was Phillip Gilbert. David Lee had his choice of Final Four contenders, Jimmy McKinney went to play for the most successful program in the state, Darren Brooks was a partial qualifer, Marcellus Sommerville committed to Iowa out of high school and Gary Buchanan went off to prep school on the East Coast. Stetson Hairston is a nice role player but he isn't a program maker.
  10. Intangibles aside, this is what both teams are replacing Wade 21.5 ppg 6.3 rpg 4.4 apg 2.2 spg Jackson 15.4 ppg 7.5 rpg 78% FT Inside out combo SLU is replacing Perry 17.1 ppg 4.7 rpg 3.2 apg 1.0 spg Brown 6.7 ppg 6.4 rpg 41% FT
  11. Inside out combo Marquette is replacing: Wade 21.5 ppg 6.3 rpg 4.4 apg 2.2 spg Jackson 15.4 ppg 7.5 rpg 78% FT Inside out combo SLU is replacing Perry 17.1 ppg 4.7 rpg 3.2 apg 1.0 spg Brown 6.7 ppg 6.4 rpg 41% FT I love our guys but Marquette lost quite a bit more production.
  12. When's the last time we had a 6'8 225+ lb power forward with hops?
  13. You mean the same Memphis that is currently winless in CUSA play? Wow, the Big East is really putting together a powerhouse football conference.
  14. Yeah, but Ian is out for the first ten games. JJ's gotta play.
  15. "One comment that Brad made at the Coaches' lunch this week, was that there are only 4 scholarship athletes this year that have any significant(more than a few minutes) playing time with the Billikens" You could say that about the Oklahoma Sooners every two years. Their roster is usually composed of 60-65% jucos.
  16. I mean the latter half of his high school season.
  17. The staff has been able to get quality pickups from Indiana, Iowa, New Jersey and Israel in the spring. They've undoubtedly evaluated a lot of kids this year that we've never even heard of. Please be patient. It's not a Terry Evans or nothing scenario.
  18. "My point was that if you have a talent like Evans available, you have to take a chance on him." I don't think you understand the severity of Evan's knee problem. He just had another surgery on his knee last month and is shutting it down until next month. I don't expect that he'll even play significant minutes until sometime next year.
  19. I'm not sure where this impression that Lisch is just "a nice player" is coming from. Chris Sloan is "a nice player". Kevin Lisch was arguably the best player in the St. Louis area last year AS A SOPHOMORE.
  20. This is not a contest to see who can have the most athletic wings. Brad and his staff are trying to recruit the best TEAM possible. North Carolina had four top 30 wing players last year but got their butts whipped by less talented teams that they couldn't match in the frontcourt.
  21. I want to a see a few Vashon games first but if Polk is again healthy, I'd expect him to start next year. Before his injury, he was that good.
  22. Lisch already has an offer on the table so I don't see Terry getting an offer from SLU with all the other guards/swingmen we have. In addition, Terry is literally sitting out until Cardinal Ritter's first practice. Way back in February, I feared that Terry wouldn't be the same after his injury and so far it's not looking good.
  23. Matt was better as a sophomore than Falker was as a senior. I doubt he's worried about playing behind Falker or Foster, who is a rail-thin project.
