  1. "I'm sure Brad would love to take a guy like Jimmy but lets say its April and Jimmy announces his intention to leave (I don't think it'll happen myself but lets just act like it does). At this point I assume the TL situation is still up in the air. Regardless, we only have one scholarship to give and are desparately in need of a power forward. What do you do?" The decision rests with Tommie. Point blank, he needs to decide by the beginning of the spring signing period whether he will be going to prep school or coming to SLU as a partial qualifier. We all love Tommie, but he shouldn't get a blank check.
  2. McKinney didn't go to Mizzou so he could be the third option.
  3. If Jimmy came here, he'd be playing in the A10 not Conference USA. Two guards with his size and jumping ability are a luxury in that league. We'd be fools not to take him.
  4. To be fair, aj told us he would be better as a sophomore than Marque was a senior. He merely implied that Jimmy was in Larry's class. Of course, he was wrong in both cases.
  5. I know you understand jjray, but I don't think a lot of fans understand how hard it us for a kid to go from shooting 12 times a game in high school to shooting 12 times in two months. No way for a kid to establish a rhythm offensively.
  6. Why are you putting this on Roy? He doesn't write like that and he doesn't have any interest in the Kroenkes.
  7. "Earlier in the season we were suggesting that Izik's play was reminiscent of Seikue Barentine's." Who said that?
  8. Afraid not. I'll be at the East St. Louis/Vashon showdown on Saturday, though.
  9. A frontcourt of Vouyoukas and Frericks would be somewhat similar to Dayton's frontcourt of Waleskowski and Finn in terms of size, style of play and athleticism. Waleskowski can shoot the 15 footer, though.
  10. Charter is replaying the Lafayette/Marquette game from Friday night. It was a low scoring affair but Lawrence shows some nice hops and smoothness to his game.
  11. I've never met you David, but I'd wager your quickness is better than Ian or Ross :-)
  12. They're in the same predicament we are - the more athletic teams in the conference just jump over the top of them. And when their threes aren't falling, things tend to get ugly.
  13. It shouldn't have to take an injury to Frericks for IO and Ian to see more minutes. Varner has been a trooper but it's really time for him to take a seat.
  14. What made Evans special was his Julian Winfield-like running and jumping ability. He could change the momentum of a game with his jaw-dropping alley dunks in traffic andd ability to rebound out of area at 6'4. Without the crazy athleticism, he's just a 6'4 spot up shooter.
  15. Don't be fooled by three-point percentages. In high school, those percentages may be inflated due to the quality a shots a particular player gets. Cardinal Ritter plays in a league where Evans can shoot over the top of unathletic 6'0 small forwards. And when they play against better teams, the focus of the opposition is on stopping Barnett which gives Evans a lot of uncontested jump shots. Blake Ahearn's three point percentage his senior year at Desmet was actually lower than Evans, but he was shooting 40% from three against much better competition.
  16. The first chance will be at the Riverwar All-Star game on Saturday, March 27 at UMSL. The slam dunk contest is at 5 pm and the boys game is at 7:45 pm. Polk and Meyer will suit up for Missouri and Liddell will headline the Illinois squad. Matt Shaw, Justin Dentman and Xavier Price are also scheduled to participate so the Missouri team will have its hands full. Check in at www.showtymebasketball.com as the event draws nearer on the calendar. The second chance to see our recruits in action together, of course, will be at DJ's annual all-star over the summer.
  17. Warren Buffett, Peter Lynch and Ben Graham would probably contend that picking the right companies should probably account for 40% of that breakdown. But I see your point - winning is the most important factor in attendance, especially in a city where professional sport attract the lion's share of the sports dollar.
  18. "I am sure Drejaj will be our starting point when the season opens next year as coach trusts freshman as much as he trusts paroled felons." Very nice! Might use it for my next sig :-)
  19. Drejaj is the slowest 6'1 guard in our conference. It was bound to catch up with him sooner or later and this year it's caught up with him.
  20. Lasalle's power forward is better than any frontline player we have. Heck he's probably better than any frontline player UAB has, and those guys abused us. There's a lot of quality big men on the east coast.
  21. Any recruiting edge we can get will be helpful. Most of the prep schools are on the east coast so a lot of big men who don't make the grade after four years of high school end up there. Instead of settling for Duquesne or LaSalle, maybe they will start to give the Billikens a look.
  22. Sorry, we will struggle until we get away from all these 6'8 high jumpers and into the A-10. That's just reality. If we go anywhere next year, it will be because the young guns are better than advertised.
  23. Obviously you didn't see Eddie Basden rip us a new one the last time the teams played.
  24. We're not going to see the type of hardcore fan support you and I crave until Meyer and Polk bring their considerable high school fanbase with them to the games in the coming year. As it stands, most fans of Borgia, Vashon, East St. Louis, etc. could care less about Billiken basketball and they are the most fanatical basketball fans in town.
  25. Josh drove down the court as far as he could until he got double teamed, pivoted and threw it to a cutting Sloan. Instead of stopping and popping the mid-range jumper he barrelled down the lane and got hacked with no call. Sloan had less than a second to make a decision - he made the wrong one.
