  1. Coach K doesn't schedule up-and-coming programs on the road. If you don't play Duke on a neutral floor in a tournament somewhere or at Cameron, you'll never play them.
  2. Brad is learning as he goes just as the players are. I think he's finding out that his blind adherence to the Dick Bennett model isn't always the best approach. You've got to put your team in the best position to win, even if that means doing stuff you're not 100% comfortable with.
  3. Good point. But instead of Duke, I'd ratchet it down a notch and arrange to play a Kansas, Texas or Florida on the road. A 30 point blowout at Cameron Indoor serves no purpose.
  4. Every team in CUSA is athletic compared to our squad.
  5. Being without Reggie for three games kinda limited our scheduling options. Even at the end of the season we had to scrap like heck to beat a bad Houston team so I seriously doubt we would have beaten a top 150 RPI team in the first month of the season. Scheduling Duke with all the turnover we'll have next year would be suicide. The ideal schedule IMO would be to limit the cupcakes to two, play one heavyweight, two NCAA tournament teams and fill out the rest of the schedule with top 100 cailber teams. We would have a reasonable chance of going 8-3 every year in that non-conference scenario while still maintaining a good strength of schedule.
  6. East Side won going away but 6'4 swingman Dustin Maguire was the show. Civic Memorial really only has two guys that could matchup athletically against Liddell's squad which made the kid's performance even more remarkable. They knew that Maguire was getting the ball and the Flyers still couldn't stop him from scoring, either from the perimeter or in the post. And the kid rebounded like a demon against the Flyers stacked frontline. I was sitting with some East Side fans and the chatter at the game gradually changed from "lucky shot" to "damn, that kid's a SOPHOMORE?" My favorite play was Maguire's hard dribble drive, stop and pop from 21 feet over two East Side defenders. The Post Dispatch has him down for 29 points (8/13 from the field, 5/8 from three) and 13 rebounds, which sounds about right. Easily the best peformance I've seen by a sophomore this season.
  7. A healthy Darren Clarke has a some good upside. For the Billikens to match up athletically against the better teams, we really need him to steal minutes away from Drejaj next year.
  8. He's at Allen County Community College in Kansas. Since he's only played 9 games, I imagine he just joined the squad about a month ago. I have no idea where he was before then.
  9. It can't be any harder that it's already been. We haven't made the dance in four years and next year will probably be five.
  10. "If we are going to compete for titles in CUSA or the A10, we must recruit lean, strong, and very athletic forwards" In CUSA, definitely but in the A10, not really. St. Joe's, Dayton and Xavier do just fine with three guard sets in that league. Landing a 6'6 jumping jack would to play small forward would give us a decided advantage, though.
  11. I think all of the guys who've attempted to play the position have been character guys but the only player I was really comfortable with at the position was Waldman. Josh is clearly the best point we've had since H which goes to show what a drought we've experienced at point.
  12. I really hope Tommie got a 17 on the February ACT exam because if he didn't, Brad is in a really tough situation. Je'kel Foster is averaging 16.5 ppg, 5 rpg, 5.5 apg and has hit 81 three pointers at a 40% clip playing against top notch juco competition. He also has a better than 3:1 assist to turnover ratio. If you take the dispassionate view, we can't turn down that type of production for a kid who may not even qualify, especially after being burned academically by Morris and Kern the previous two years. Foster, on the other hand is an honor roll student at Chipola. If Tommie doesn't qualify by the spring signing period and Foster wants to come, we've got to take the sure thing and hope Tommie comes back home after prep school. BTW, the Newborne kid scored 22 points in Chipola's first round victory at the FCCAA State tournament. Newborne is also an honor roll student.
  13. I saw where Kansas and Oklahoma were listed in Foster's profile but the interest is "low" and no offers have been tendered.
  14. Frankly, I would be shocked if Luke scored more than 15 pts in this game. The V will just double team on the perimeter and make him give up the ball. Unfortunately Moosman is the only other ballhandler Borgia has and he is too short to give Vashon any trouble.
  15. We're not offering the last scholarship to anybody but a power forward. We're offering the last scholarship to a power forward and possibly reserving a scholarship for Foster if another one opens up. If you email Telep, he probably doesn't even we have only scholarship available. He's just an Internet guru, he's not God.
  16. Shipley is quick with the ball (good handles), but he isn't physically quick. He's the type of undersized combo guard that is all-world in high school because of his strong offensive fundamentals but looks out of place against high major athletes (see Spencer Laurie). He's also streaky as hell (see Anthony Drejaj)and as you noted, very slight. Should be a nice pickup for a school like SEMO. Matt Lawrence is the man. He's really a 6'6 guard who plays a lot of post in high school because of his height and long reach. Mixes it up pretty good inside for a skinny dude, handles the ball as well as Meyer and his outside shot is just as good. Doesn't have Meyer's mid-range game yet. If he puts on 15 lb, you'd have a player very similar to Indiana/Iowa star Luke Recker.
  17. "This is a sad night. This will probably be the last game Louisville will play the Bills in St Louis." A little premature aren't you? Louisville is moving to the Big East, not the Far East.
  18. I'm coming down with the same thing so there won't be much yelling from me tonight.. I'll just pump my fist in the air in violent triumph.
  19. For us to get to 20 wins, don't we have to beat Depaul en route to the finals? It's either us or them.
  20. Somebody tell Mike Claiborne at KFNS. If he toned down the hockey talk and the shilling for Ed "TV" Levy, maybe he could increase the audience for the afternoon show by a few percentage points.
  21. All but one of Louisville's losses are in conference. They were 11-1 out of conference against a very good schedule.
  22. "the high flying freshman for althoff put on another fine show. why he isnt playing varsity with the talent he has is a mystery to me." Maybe Coach Lieb is of the Soderberg school of coaching - unless you're a transcendent defensive player we'll see you next year, son.
  23. "Highly overrated", if that was what was written, does not mean "not a factor". It means it's one of the factors, just as thicks stated.
  24. "Everyone hopes for the best from recruits. We've got people here comparing Liddell to Hughes, Polk to some of the top guards in the country and Meyer compared to the great shooters SLU has had (Waldman, Highmark, etc)." Most of the posters here have admitted they haven't seen these players play - they are hopeful but they don't state these hopes as fact as you tend to do. As for comparisons, Liddell isn't the athlete or shooter Hughes was in high school, Meyer is a slasher not a spot up shooter and Polk, well, he really is one of the top guards in the country :-)
