  1. It's Steve's world ... we're just in it.
  2. Where would be if that ref hadn't screwed us at Marquette with that five second call? If, if, if. Whatever happens, this has been a successful season for our Bills. These guys have been through a lot and epitomize what a team is supposed to be.
  3. St. Joe's loss is too close to tournament time. Look for Pitt or Oklahoma St. to replace St. Joe's as a #1 seed.
  4. Brad is stubborn, but he isn't crazy. I knew sooner or later he would realize that it's OK to play zone when the other team doesn't shoot it well from outside. He's Dick Bennett's protege but he doesn't have to be his clone.
  5. "my question with Lisch is where does he play and how does that affect his decision?" Cust curious -- did you ask this question when Crean recruited 4 guards in the last two classes?
  6. What Roy said. Tommie is one of the best rebounding guards I've seen at the high school level so he could definitely play small forward in the A10. Luke is rugged enough to play small forward as well.
  7. "A team we should schedule - Princeton. I had no idea until recently that St. Louis is their 2nd largest alumni base." I agree. Princeton usually has a decent RPI and is discplined on offense and defense. Also, as we already know, there are some pretty good players in New Jersey that get overlooked by the BCS conferences.
  8. http://www.iolaregister.com/sports1.html The bad news is that Allen County's season is over. The good news is that coaches who haven't evaluated Tisby yet won't get a chance to see him at Hutch.
  9. Maguire plays the 4 because Civic Memorial is a team of midgets, not because he doesn't have perimeter skills. That game against East Side wasn't a fluke -- the kid's been hitting from three land and the free throw at an incredible rate all year and he's just a sophomore. He finds ways to score right now just by moving without the ball, using ball fakes and posting up smaller players. If Maguire's handle improves a little, he will pretty much be unstoppable. Think Matt Carroll at Notre Dame.
  10. This isn't an exact quote but it's pretty close. "Let me put it this way", Brad said, "We have a high dependence on Dwayne Polk. Anthony Drejaj has played the point for us at times but not at the level that I would like. I think he's better suited at the two guard."
  11. http://www.iolaregister.com/sports5.html "Most of Tisby's 25 points came from the inside but it was his three-point shot from the outside at the final buzzer that touched off a celebration by ACCC fans as ACCC beat Colby 73-71 in a Region VI playoff game Wednesday night." ----------- "Allen County advances to the Region VI quarterfinals Sunday in Salina. The Red Devils play Hutchinson (28-3) at 7 p.m. at the Bicentennial Center."
  12. With continued solid recruiting I hope we can trade in that LeSabre for a Mercedes Benz S Class in the near future.
  13. http://www.jcfloridan.com/servlet/Satellit...orts!index.html "The leading scorer for the Indians on the night was Newborne, who finished the game with 19 points and 12 rebounds for a double-double, while Foster was right behind him with 18 points. Okaloosa was lead in scoring by Sanders, who finished with 14 points, while Elliot had 13 and Danzey had 10 of his own. Chipola will now travel to the National Tournament which is set to begin on March 16 and run through March 20."
  14. No, because Duke would never play a road game at SLU.
  15. "If it is not 2-1 (which we were discussing in the thread), then I'm less interested. I think "never" is incorrect. Stop and think about it." Look at the out-of-state freshmen and sophomores on Duke's roster. Ewing -Texas, Dockery - Illinois, Williams - Oklahoma, Deng - New Jersey. Any Duke road games over the last two years in those locations? Nope. K doesn't have to schedule payback games to get blue chip recruits. Duke is Duke, they're on TV more than Leave it to Beavaaah ... reruns. But Duke was more than happy to play Valparaiso and Butler this season and last -- at home.
  16. http://www.chicagohoops.com/articles/bellevilles.html "Arthur Sargent, a 6'4 inch small forward, was red-hot as he scorched the nets for 26 points. Sargent finished 9/11 from the field including 5/6 from 3-point range. At one point in the game he connected on 4 consecutive 3-point bombs. An outstanding wide receiver, Sargent is favoring the University of Missouri for football"
  17. His length and shotblocking ability would make him a better matchup against CUSA forwards than Sloan is. But when it comes down to it, he's only averaging 6.4 and 4.3 rpg in 25 min a game in a 3 bid conference. So no, he wouldn't solve our inside problems.
  18. "Brad faced many of the lower-tier teams in CUSA this year." Romar faced even more in his 9-7 season. See? http://www.kenpom.com/rpisked.php?year=2002&a=71 Team RPI Depaul 192 (twice) East Carolina 172 (twice) So. Mississippi 203 UAB 154 Nobody's ripping Romar, I'm just stating the facts.
  19. http://prepsports.stltoday.com/ssi/prep/st...+stifles+Borgia Here's what impresses me most from the article: "The first half was sporadic at best for Vashon, which faced a 1-2-2 Borgia zone that disrupted the Wolverines' vaunted transition attack. Borgia wasn't getting much done on offense either, and Meyer finished eight-of-21 shooting from the floor, two for 12 in the first half." ---------------------------- "Meyer, whom along with Polk has signed a letter of intent with St. Louis University, often met a tandem of Vashon defenders, who either doubled-down into the post or rotated out on the perimeter to stop the scoring threat." Coach Irons did exactly what he wanted to do against Luke defensively, yet he somehow managed to squeeze off 21 shots. They didn't go down in the first half, but just the fact that he could get off that many shots against a squad of quick athletic players all focused on denying him the ball is very impressive. Being played straight up defensively at the college level will be a welcome relief.
  20. A 9-7 record in a 6 bid league is much more impressive than a 9-7 record in a 3 bid league.
  21. I showed up at 7:35 pm, saw a line of about 600 people outside the door, turned around and got back in my car. You weren't getting into that game unless you showed up and hour and half before tipoff. For a team that everyone loves to hate, the crowds sure do come to see the V in droves. I was shocked to learn from the Post Dispatch box score that Luke scored 22 of Borgia's 40 points, considering that Coach Irons was at the Desmet earlier this year scouting Luke and devising how to shut him down. If Luke had any help at all -- which he hasn't all year -- this could have been a game. As a consolation prize I took in the Poplar Bluff/Chaminade tilt at UMSL. Chaminade had no answer for Tyler Hansbrough but Poplar Bluff had no answer for Tommie Williams who torched the Mules for 37 points, often with Ben Hansbrough covering him. The difference in the game was Poplar Bluff's three point shooting -- they were on fire all night. Ben has nice size for a guard at 6'3 190 lb but he is as slow as Drejaj. I'd take Jarod Leonard over him at this point and Dustin Maguire over Jarod.
  22. Coach K doesn't schedule up-and-coming programs on the road. If you don't play Duke on a neutral floor in a tournament somewhere or at Cameron, you'll never play them.
  23. Brad is learning as he goes just as the players are. I think he's finding out that his blind adherence to the Dick Bennett model isn't always the best approach. You've got to put your team in the best position to win, even if that means doing stuff you're not 100% comfortable with.
  24. Good point. But instead of Duke, I'd ratchet it down a notch and arrange to play a Kansas, Texas or Florida on the road. A 30 point blowout at Cameron Indoor serves no purpose.
