  1. Is cankles contagious? mhg
  2. Let's have some patience here, fellas. Coach said he completely redid DP's shot this off season, and it may take a while to work into shape. DP still has his wheels, and has not been a liability on D in the past. So let's sit back and watch how things develop in the next three games. mhg
  3. His no look passes were so cool last nite, gives the receiver of the pass an extra split second to set feet and shoot. Should be able to help LM the most, since he takes a while to get his shot off at times. This should truly be a great season to follow our Bills. mhg
  4. Off of the SLU athletics site: Watch from Hawai`i via the Internet: The Billikens' game at Hawai`i is available via webcast through Hawaiian Telcom and Honolulu WB affiliate KFVE-TV. Fans can purchase "iTickets" for $9.95 by visiting www.hawaiiantelmedia.com. mhg
  5. I would just love to be able to get it on the radio! Does anyone know if we can get it off of KFNS online? My reception for 590 off the am radio is so pxxxpoor it's incredible. mhg
  6. Thanks for posting, don't be a stranger. All I can add factually is that the team almost never practices on a Sunday, so I doubt anyone has info from today. Perhaps someone saw the guys workout on Sat. mhg
  7. I think volfan was the unnamed source for the SI article on the Rams that said the first round picks on the D line suck. mhg
  8. that has to be one of the funniest things I have ever seen. Just caught my funnybone. Thanks alot, OS. mhg
  9. Steve I was thinking winter break time would be best, not thanksgiving. you will be here so much longer for winter break. let us know which games look best for you over the winter break. women's games...bluecrewprez, you out there? mhg
  10. In the past we have all gotten together for a chat room event, going to a local venue to catch a Billikens road game. Would be good to do it when Steve is in town, of course. Steve, could you look at your schedule and let us know when would be best for us to meet and greet? Maybe we can get better treatment than SportZone gave us last time as well. Also, we talked about getting together for a women's game sometime during the season. Would be nice to meet Blue Crew Prez at that time, so we may thank her personally for all her efforts. BCP, could you suggest some games that might work well for you and we could kick it around here as well. Shimmy G might want to know we are in the house, too. mhg
  11. This question of lack of access to air travel just came to light today. If this is an ongoing problem, we will have difficulty retaining coaches, as they need to be able to get around to see and impress recruits. This should be brought up at the next Billiken Club meeting for sure. In answer to your question, I think if the above is true then we should be sure we are within the legalities of the NCAA to assist the team if we can. I guess talk with Margo Lubiss or the AD office to see what can be done to help out. mhg
  12. NB Probably wouldn't do you any personal gain to belong to the Tip Off Club if you are out of town. There are occasional trips when the team goes out of town for exotic trips, but I have never heard there was much money savings to do it that way. Would be roomed at the same place as the team, but that wouldn't be necessary. I have gone up to the games in Chicago when we played DePaul in CUSA, and going to the booster events before the game was fun. As an alum, you could probably access those events without the TO Club. I figure contributing whatever you feel appropriate to the arena would be your best way to help. Whenever they go to the big hitters in town, the percentage of alumni that contribute is always an important number for them to throw at these folks. They don't want to contribute to an organization that doesn't have its own involved as well. mhg
  13. We haven't given the absence of LM enough space in this discussion. I thought he was one of our brighter stars at the end of the difficult season last year. I thought he played very smart, shot the FT exceptionally well, and rarely made mistakes. He rebounded a fair amount as well. Coach said he may be ready for EI. If he is, I would watch his mobility and jumping ability very closely. Surely by the end of the season he will be able to add to the offense and the defensive intensity. If he can play the 3 some, he may allow Liddell to rebound some as he tries to defend the opponenent's 4. mhg
  14. I guess you guys never heard about showing up your opponent? Have you been reading this board at all? Obi is obviously hurt, limps after two or three trips down the court, and very overweight. This guy was all state as a jr in Texas. Let's lighten up, see what plays out. He will certainly be red shirted, and if not, will barely see the bright side of the scoreboard all season. There is no point guard on this team. There obviously is a maze of possibilities. Looks to me whoever has the ball in the middle of the court as we come down is the point guard. In the second half of a blow out like this you don't want front line guys hurt, you play young guys to give them a chance to get their legs. Luke Meyer just got the cast off his foot four days ago. He can do some drills, but isn't ready cardio-wise or orthopedicly to play competitive bball yet. He may be ready for E Ill, depending on game conditions. You dress him cause he is on the team and deserves to dress out, but he wasn't going to be used. When you're playing a walk on, a freshman recovering from and injury, another freshman, a sophomore big man, and another sophomore, the play is going to be ragged. My only gripe with the game was the horrible outside shooting. Really would have liked that to show up better, especially in the first half. The key to this season is improved outside shooting over last year. If we don't have that, then they will continue to double IV and we are back to square one. KL looked smoother with his shots than against UMSL, and I think we'll be ok, but I am concerned. mhg
  15. Charlie Tuna has a show on 1380 on Wed nite, and I was listening going home from our game. Floyd was on and made a point to say that the Shootout/Vashon game wasn't a done deal yet, but would probably happen. Guess it isn't. Floyd must always be in control, and this isn't his show. I'm not surprised this has happened. mhg
  16. granted he's not Ahearn, but he was averaging 20 ppg in the previous two games, and got only 10 tonite. mhg
  17. It can work if TL is the leading rebounder for the team each nite. That will be the key, of course. How will we handle the other team's 4. If we need to bring in VN or JJ, how will we look? Really won't know by playing UMSL and Maryville. mhg
  18. My take home message was that they were going to work on D more. He's been so concerned with the offense and running, he has let the D go a little, so he will challenge them more. Spoke about how much he likes this group, how they clown around before practice, but when the horn sounds they are all business, then clown around after practice. Really liked the FT shooting. Said nothing about Obi. mhg
  19. Looked to me that he was visibly limping in the second half. Hope he isn't pushing things too fast for himself. Red shirting is really in his and the Bills' best interest, IMHO. The team overall is so much quicker than last. When Obi was in, I was thinking that he would have done well on last year's team, but not this year's bunch. mhg
  20. as recently as last week this was true. may have changed since. anyone with more recent info? mhg
  21. I hear Cheryl is one of the final four for the Stanford job. If picked she will go. mhg
  22. got to get this in before Roy does, saw him on the other side of the meeting. another great meeting, Cheryl Levick, Brad and Earl Austin were there. Cheryl..excited over women soccer in the NCAA, men #1 seed in soccer and beginning of bball season. arena..expects two big corporate gifts in the next month, right now we are at 23.5mil toward the 35 mil goal. spent time today with the design of a bball practice facility attached to the arena...everyone was pleased and excited. Not a done deal, but she is pushing for this hard. Brad-starting 5 DP, TL, DB, AD, IV. Obi has lost 18 lbs, still over the weight he was when he last played. Knee not up to strength yet. Will play in the two pre season games tyhen decide what to do with this year. IV has a younger brother, Alex, 6-7 sophomore. BH most improved player on the team. AD most competitive kid I've ever coached. We will rebound by committee, when we are in the four guard lineup. FT 77% in preseason. Tomorrow will be the first time we will be in the Saviss Center to practice all year...(what a crock! That is an mhg editorial, folks. Exactly why we need our arena now) AD 43% 3pt, DP 44% 3pt. DB not where we want him yet. Earl- Tomorrow we will sign Dustin McGuire, best perimeter shooter in the area. Likens him to Drew Diener, but more mobile. We now have a team going in the right direction, 1/3 of the team next year will be from St Louis. Stressed in most emphatic way what a GREAT impact Billiken Madness was to local recruits who were at the event. 8 prominent HS players were there, mainly through word of mouth. Earl spoke of the energy there that nite, the electricity of the event. Tyus, Suggs (Washighton, MO), Waller and Shopshire (sp?, sorry) from Ft Zumwalt West, Guffey (6-8 Lafayette), Kramer S and fountree (McClure N). Said we need now to capitalize on this momentum boost. Alex Tyus is now interested in SLU, but we are still an underdog. He is classified as a jr in Cincinatti. J leonard--had a series of surgeries, has not been seen. John Bradbury, 6-10 Jr Desmet big change from last year to this year. Alumni-Perry in Italy, Izik in Israel, Love-China. There are no local bigs who might help us for next year. Probably a JUCO, and a development type guy like BH as well. Will sign in the spring. Earl has no names to offer for us. Great meeting, excitement abounds. See everyone tomorrow. mhg
  23. AJ I called Scottrade the other day, angry as can be over why the stock trade I had enterred had not been completed when the stock clearly had reached the limit price I had quoted, when the guy politely told me I had enterred a different stock in the order slot than the stock I thought I was purchasing. It must be in the air or something. mhg
  24. no clue to his reasons on this, just passing along info. I'm sure there is much water yet to pass downstream in the recruiting of young Mr Tyus. When you are this high on the radar screen, and the list of schools with interest in him is a who's who of D1 ball, many pitfalls can hold us back. Obviously, a good start to the season is imperative. Last year I was disappointed with the squad's performance, especially in light of the lack of hockey in town. This year's Blues team may actually give the Bills a greater opportunity to give the local community something positive to cling to. I really like the tag line for the Bills' marketing, 'Your Home Team', a direct slap at Mi$$ou. mhg
