  1. He played in a refereed full court scrimmage before the season started with the team at WP - I guess Brad wanted to add depth to both sides. He played very well, handled the ball, and got off a bunch of 3 ptrs, several of which went in. He'll make 'em forget about Robertson out there.
  2. Time to get rid of "rural." I propose "out-state."
  3. What a big chance your are taking... I agree; I also know you can't play 5 guards at once in spite of Brad's and Spoonhour's preferences. I also recall you're talking about the big's being projects at the time of signing...but that comes with the territory unless you are very lucky. I think the final judgement comes after their last 2 years, and it's hard to recruit on the unknown. In retrospect, the Frericks signup has proven to be a disappointment...but it looked good at the time. It's too soon to pass final judgement on Ian and Bryce.
  4. Intelligent response...JJ won't get it.
  5. There are times when no snide comment seems adequate - Catbert...I have a hard time with fair weather fans who whine when things aren't the way they want them to be. I continue to spend time on this board because there are enough high minded participants who engage in intelligent observation. They know who they are...
  6. You missed my point - did we know the future when we signed him? Go on record right now about how you feel about the KL and TL recruits. I think they are superb. What I readily admit is I don't know how the future will play out. How will I react if they are subject to Floyd McLain type physical problems? I will still say it was a job well done to get them to sign.
  7. The 2 centers were not recruited in the same class - Bryce was a redshirt from day 1. At the time, it looked like we had a good handle on inside players going forward. We expected two full years from Tom. All the recruiting decisions are made without seeing the future. I get tired of the hindsight BS. You make your best decision, based on what you know at the time, and then you work with what you've got.
  8. Probably every good coach agrees with that approach...but sometimes what's produced anonymously in the practice gym doesn't translate to the bright lights of the arena. That's why I say, give 'em a taste, a small dose. It helps clear the mind. We were all high on Vashun after a few practices...but it hasn't shown up yet in real games. I'm not ready to write him off, but let's give everybody a chance to respond to the bright lights.
  9. Acquired? Didn't take me long. Like a fine wine - smooth start and long finish.
  10. Johnson earned a place in the lineup, and might even have beaten out Newbourne. He clearly has the physical gifts that we would want in a recruit at that position. He has good control of the ball on short shots, and he was 3/3 at the line, with a nice, soft stroke. That being said, I think Ian and Bryce and DC etc. all needed a few minutes in the first half - adjustment, exposure to different styles, and comfort level mean a lot. DP has 8 full games under his belt, and is just beginning to look really comfortable out there.
  11. Scooch is spelled skootch - where the hell did you go to scool? :+
  12. I think Soderberg could be the long term answer - every time you change the coach, it creates chaos. Regardless of what happens this year, we already have a good flavor of Brad as a floor coach. I'd settle for a Norm Stewart type era from Brad, but that requires longevity at the head coach position; the assistants can move on when they need to.
  13. Struggling at DeSmet is not the same as struggling at the local public school - in this case, Parkway West is in the same neighborhood - central west county. That is not a pan of the Parkway system where a student could pursue a course of study that would prepare him for any top college. It's just that the core curriculum at DeSmet is college prep and not easy. I'm a SLUH alum, but both schools are Jesuit, and I'm making an assumption here on the curriculum. I'm happy to be set straight by a DeSmet grad if I'm wrong.
  14. I thought the original thread was well within the bounds of the board.
  15. He shot an airball on the baseline for his first shot - it was way long; too much adrenaline. The 3 ptr was pretty.
  16. They have broken ground - enough to know there's more water there than originally expected - which required some time to revamp the plans...I'm not worried; it will get done.
  17. Same here; I'm bringing 3 more guys. 118, E, 1-4
  18. If a girlfriend ever asks if you want a Lady Jane Grey massage, you'll know exactly what she means...
  19. No, but I've heard they're only shooting 30% in scrimmages ;-)
  20. It's the same ball and the same hole, and all these guys hit those shots at their last level, and they hit them in practice. It's a confidence thing; if you're not hitting, you suddenly aren't looking aggressively for your shot...and when it's forced on you because you're wide open, you think to much and defeat the great muscle memory that got you to D1 in the first place.
  21. I saw him; I meant, why didn't he play? He has a nice stroke, and when we're shooting the way we are, then he should get his opportunity to miss also.
  22. Also, on the post game show, Brad said he was satisfied with the defense. I thought their guards penetrated to the basket too many times for uncontested layups. Our offense was uptight; theirs was loose - how else can you explain those in your face 3 pointers? We're lacking confidence; we can score.
  23. Cute wife and friend; I'm satisfied with the switch...
