  1. Schasz, Have you played the Eagles in Oldsmar? If not, I recommend it to you.
  2. In an Ohio heartbeat! What do others think?
  3. Santa Clara are the Broncos. I believe Santa Cruz are the Banana Slugs.
  4. I remember someone mentioning Ms Levick as a hopeful candidate when Woolard announced his interest in USF. I think she would do well at SLU. I hope she likes marketing and fund raising. What is the timeline for hiring the AD?
  5. I was living in Tampa when the Cardinals left Al Lang stadium after 42 years in St. Pete. I saw several games there. I remember feeling sad when they left.
  6. Not versed at all re: USF. Just a wild speculation on my part. I have heard that Woolard and Pizzoti are friends and have mutual respect.
  7. I haven't heard anything, but I speculated that once Woolard got settled at USF he would make her an offer.
  8. I agree, it is a very positive move for SLU and will be viewed that way by many applicants for the vacant position.
  9. Yes, Bennington did go to MSU after leaving SLU. I don't know his record there, and I believe he died while still a coach at MSU, but I don't recall the details.
  10. I tend to agree with you -- on picking your boss. Coaches can exert a lot of influence w/o being on the search committee. In fact sometimes more. However, the most important thing is to get someone who has the energy and ability to move SLU forward in all aspects. And I believe the committee will do that.
  11. Where did you hear/read that Jill is on the search committee?
  12. Do we have a search committee in place? Any information regarding that process.
  13. I certainly believe that Brad's input should be sought, but I don't think he should serve on the search committee nor any other coach. Their influence should come from behind the scene.
  14. In reading the story it is difficult to know what accurately transpired. USF needed to land Woolard which is why he probably was offered more $. Otherwise the search process may have looked bungled. Since Woolard wasn't the overwhelming choice, he may have some difficulty winning staff support. I wish him well. Now... lets hope SLU finds a new AD who will move us forward.
  15. >When Oliver didn't get an offer over the weekend, and when the >university president talked about having a second round of >telephone interviews, Oliver realized that he was going to >get that offer and bailed out. Did you mean to says "when Oliver realized he was not going to get the offer?" Other wise it seems strange that he would withdraw because he actually believed he was going to get the offer.
  16. Published: May 11, 2004 TAMPA - University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft will speak with athletic director finalists Doug Woolard and Jon Oliver again before making a decision on the Bulls' AD. Genshaft will contact Woolard, Saint Louis' AD, and Oliver, a senior associate AD at Virginia, by telephone, USF spokeswoman Michelle Carlyon said. There remains no timetable when Genshaft will announce Lee Roy Selmon's replacement. Woolard, 54, and Oliver, 40, were unanimously recommended to Genshaft by USF's 12-member search committee. In a local poll (Tampa Bay) 81% favored the selection of Oliver whereas 18% favored Woolard.
  17. I agree. If selected, he'll take it. Largest University in FL, wanting to elevate football and more money. Hopefully SLU can find an AD who is a visionary and who can market and fund raise.
  18. Interesting articles. I think USF will go w someone who has recent football experience and my money is on the MSU associate AD. USF is the largest school in FL and they have a short D-I history, but I think they want to be a football school. Woolard will remain at SLU for a few more years which may be a positive.
  19. This announcement doesn’t surprise me, but it does disappointment me. My math tends to agree with yours. If all goes well 2007-08 will be the first season. The announcements have been somewhat contradictory which is probably due to having to move the site from the Lindell area, water issues at the current site and slower than expected fund-raising. However, to have raised 200M of the 300M goal is fantastic. I think the research center should take priority. It will bring in a lot of money in research grants and enhance the reputation of the university. And the university’s first priority is academics. I firmly believe that the arena will be built and it will be a state of the art facility. Now someone mentioned on this board about increasing the soccer venue to MSL standards which I believe is 25,000. If St. Louis got a MSL team the university’s facilities would be the logical place for them to play. And… with the increase in size we would be in a great position to bring back football at D-II to start. I can fantasize!
  20. I wonder the same thing - the arena news is a by-product of an article rregarding on-campus housing. The lack of information from the University or the athletic department increases the degree of speculation rregarding the project from it won't happen to it will happen jsut more slowly than hoped.
  21. The lack of committed dollars to the arena is not particularly good news. However, the long silence, I suspected was due to a less than expected supportive response which also is most likely affecting the naming rights. And the underground water issue will no doubt add additional costs to the project. I would think that Fr. Biondi is not a happy camper :-( . SLU's fund raising goal of $300M is very aggressive and two major building projects: the arena and the science building. I think both will come to fruition just not as soon as hoped.
  22. Thanks for your response. When I first moved to NM I was invited to go to Trinity Site (open 1 or 2 days a year). a very worth while trip. The histroy of the A-bomb in NM (Los Alamos and White Sands) is most interesting.
  23. White Sands is a desolate, but beautiful area of NM - high desert. I'm curious, how does it compare to the desert in Iraq.
  24. an ice rink... why not. Apparently, there is an underground water source. The Arena - a creek runs through it. Naming rights: the Hope Arena, it has a nice sound. I know that Paul Reinert S.J. and Bob Hope were friends. I have no doubt the arena project will be a first rate and comprehensive facility. I just hope they don't scale back the 13K seating capacity.
