  1. plus there has to be able substitutes. example, if a tired josh fisher is still more effective than a fresh phillip hunt, you let josh play.
  2. billiken law said, "And your statement regarding his talent not being "that good" does that mean SLU's isn't "that good" either, since MU did lead the entire second half and won the game? Are USM and SLU even? Is SMS 'that' superior to SLU in terms of talent?" i am an enough of a realist to know that slu doesnt have the talent that the bearcats have and if they try to play them straight up like marquette did, the billikens willl lose. my guess is that coach soderberg will not play into mr huggins hands and even then the odds are they too will fall, especially considering the game is at the horrible shoemaker center. as to the crean comment i made, i know he isnt stupid, so which one of the multiple choice answers does that leave? while i recognize that crean has done a marvelous job turning the program at marquette, that doesnt mean i have to like the guy. there is a reason the attitude of the program from the top to the bottom fan has turned obnoxious and it all starts right there with mr crean. good for the warrior fans, but that doesnt win them or crean friends outside of milwaukee. as to sms, that team is indeed better than most give it credit for. the problems sms have are a terrrible conference that doesnt allow their rpi and reputation to grow with it, and a coach that seems intent on becoming the next off the court spoon rather than consistently doing his job. personally like spoon, hinson has shown he has a good mind for the game and knows how to prepare what he has to compete. right now, sms might be the best team in the state of missouri. one thing is for sure, cant argue with any claims they might have. they beat us and missouri sure cant stake any claims the way they have performed this season.
  3. what about it? i dont see mention of it in the post you responded to. what are you asking?
  4. i know enough about hockey to fill a thimble and talk for about 2 seconds. ironically, in high school i followed the blues a lot and my wife's parents had season tix that i got to take her to and use often. since mr hull left town, i have not watched one second of blues hockey. and wont.
  5. wouldnt that be just the most hillarious twist to the whole b.s. of the extra marquette home game?
  6. and while some of us never questioned his coaching abilities and "bloodlines" experience, the one thing i wasnt sure of was his recruiting abilities. well wisconsin has had nothing but success of recent years and i guess his last wisconsin recruits are now what juniors and seniors? his recruiting "reaches" while at slu have all worked out better than anyone would have dreamed. next year he has what i think is the second best recruiting class in my 20+ years of following billiken basketball and if that last scholarship turns out to be a homerun, it might be the best. and most rumblings say he has the head start on most of the underclass talent in st louis as well. no, i have no doubts, brad soderberg is a diamond.
  7. i agree nashville. our style we let lesser teams stick around, but conversly will keep us in the game with far better teams. one thing old spoon used to preach is stick around till the end and who knows what might happen. what crean arrogantly did last night was stupid. to think he had the athletic talent to play cincy more or less straight up was eiher just that, stupid, or else arrogant. he should have seen after saturday, that his talent isnt that good. to be honest, marquette is no deeper than we are in "real talent". it is just that crean plays his 10 players, brad has chosen to play 7. i have never been a big believer in the players getting tired and not being able to play 35 minutes stuff. my gosh, these are young men in the prime of their lives. they dont get tired. let the best play. now injuries and fouls are a different story.
  8. just to point out the absurdity of the list, we need to e-mail espn and point out that mccauley needs to be included.
  9. the positive that i take out of the brandon morris situation is it only reinforces that brad can judge talent. morris never scored like that in juco. brad knew he was a player. too bad our academic policies hamstrung us.
  10. while i agree ross varner is not going to be an all-american this year, i am amazed at the number of people that apparently think coach soderberg is such an idiot that he would play such a totally inept player if he truly had the player(s) other than frericks that could do better on the inside for us. while we all obviously see ross get beat in the open court on an one on one situation, or make a foul, miss a free throw, etc. are you really focusing on the number of times he does indeed block out effectively which allows reggie or josh maybe to ****** a rebound? or how about the times he sets a super screen so that reggie or drejaj have an open three? look i know as well as anyone that the likes of justin johnson or izik are more athletic players. and judging from the fact that izik is now getting more time and ross less, izik is obviously starting to finally get it. but to come in here and detail ross's actions is totally unwarranted. you should all be p!ssed off at justin and izik and ian for not getting it so ross cant play. they should be the root of your frustration. ross is doing what ross can do. leave him out of it.
  11. i loved the story a poster put here earlier this week detailing welmer in the 80's telling a coach to remember him when the coach moved to the bigger conference. terry moore is an up and coming very young man. by his condition and looks, wouldnt be surprised if he was early 30's or even younger. i.e. enterprising young man wanting to move on to bigger and better conference that will pay more, wouldnt mind the future big east people putting in the word for him. this tells me that we might be playing short in the games with louisville, cincy, depaul and so florida as well. ahhhh that is something to look forward to. like a good kick in the groin.
  12. marquette has proven a few times now by actions of late that everything is about them and not their brethern, why would we expect otherwise? i would look to the snake a.d. they apparently have up there now. i do not put crean in the middle of it a bit. same with green in so miss. this is all a.d.'s b.s.
  13. i actually believe that biondi/woolard would have sought the conference's blessing BEFORE even considering the option. did marquette do that? or did they just run it by the rodeo commish while he was downing another old crow and water?
  14. keith lee of memphis? he graduated before the gmc let alone cusa.
  15. count me in the group that had a celebration when rucker retired! i like sansone better than o'neill and welmer. but he does have that "dont cross me" face on like valentine. you are correct on that.
  16. i think brad is talking sure thing. 12 wins probably puts the team in the top 3. 9 or 10 probably puts a team in that dogfight of 4-8. in all likelihood, 4, 5 at most go to the tourney. so any of the 4-8 teams would be in the running for the last spot or two and that probably leaves it up to the smoke filled room. brad wants no part of that, thus 12 wins gets him at least 3rd place likely so that is my read on that statement.
  17. marquette and dayton have about 60 rpi's and charlotte's is barely below 40. if the goal is to get a below 40 rpi (what always seems to be the dividing line of in or pray), i would think we need better quality wins than those 3 bubble teams.
  18. KWYJIBO SAID, "That said, the real villain in all this is the C-USA Commissioner/Rodeo Clown Banowsky" man you hit that right. i never thought i would miss our old commish, but this guy hasnt done much of anything right since taking over. i am betting he forces the conference tourney to texas next year so he wont have to be inconvienenced. i say good luck to those staying behind in this nascar b.s. league.
  19. both josh and drejaj have shown they arent afraid to step up. reggie is the main option, but we have players that can create an opportunity if need be.
  20. i dont understand the double secret stuff either.
  21. i would think a kid from the not good parts of detroit would love a trip to walmart.
  22. let's say there is 10,0000 fans in attendance that night. i say 20 will be there for southern miss. so 5-1 means that 100 marquette fans show up. awful lot of lost souls meeting in green bay just to say hi to brett. my guess is it will be about 5,000 true marquette fans about 20 so miss fans and the rest brett farve fans. sad thing is he probably shows up at some supermarket opening the next day and signs autographs for nothing. why did they spend $30 the night before? the whole setup just stinks (i wanted to write sucks, but i am trying to improve my language for thicks' sake).
  23. 1 of 3 would result in probably our only "quality" win of the season and probably place us squarely on the tourney "bubble". that bubble will be shared with all the big 10, big 12 and acc wannabe's that the committee so likes to cater to. no, 1 win wont do it imo. but we shall see.
