bonwich
I'd completely forgotten who played Alexis Zorbas. For God's sake, we can't have that kind of potential cross-reference to a Billiken (unless he earns 20 hours in a single summer).
Billiken Law
It's not like he has an incredibly difficult name to pronounce. And besides, so he's Greek. Does that mean any time SLU has a foreign player we have to come up with some ethnic nickname? Many of these kids also HATE nicknames fans stick on them. Billiken Rich
I'm still wondering why the Golden Eagles had to stop being warriors. My God!!!!!!! Oh no, I just mentioned the supreme being! In a minute I'll be saying the pledge of allegiance!!!!! LIGHTEN THE HELL UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If Ian doesn't like it I'll desist. If you don't, tough. GO WARRIORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (as long as they aren't playing us)
Billiken Law
Aren't we fiesty today! All I'm saying is that the kid's name is Ian. It's not that hard to pronounce. At MU we had Odarty Blankson who all the fans called "ODB." He hated that. But if we must call him "Zorba" what do we call Izik, since he's foreign too? As for the mascot thing, don't get me started on that. It was the decision of 2 administrators (both of whom are no longer at MU). Of course, it could be worse. bonwich
My Jesuit and Wisconsin brother Mr. Law apparently missed why my tongue was firmly in cheek with the initial post. The actor in question would have been Anthony QUINn. Can't we all just get along :-)?
Schasz
For consistency purposes, if we refer to Ian as Zorba...then Izik could be Fidler for Fidler on the Roof!
NashvilleBilliken
Yeah, those mascot's aren't very creative. I've always been happy that we have a unique, politically correct (at least for now, in few years they may find something wrong with it) mascot. I never knew why we didn't capitalize on this more...the whole country should have heard of a Billiken.
bonwich
The Fiddler was Russian. If we're going to be linguistically accurate, we have to give Izik the nickname "Chuckles."

Billiken Rich
What if a young Col Sanders played football for Ole Miss???? Those are the worst mascots I've ever seen! What does the current mascot look like anyway?

NashvilleBilliken
Yeah, the Internet Movie Database (www.imdb.com) is an awesome site. I can't tell you how many arguments that site has settled for me. I was there the second this whole contraversy started...I hadn't heard of the movie either.
