BILLIKEN NOTABLES

Saint Louis (10-15, 2-10 A-10) plays its third straight game against a first-place A-10 team Tuesday when it faces No. 25 VCU in Richmond, Va.

The Billikens are coming off an 81-68 road loss against Rhode Island. Two games ago, SLU lost 51-44 at home against Dayton. VCU, Dayton, Rhode Island and UMass are in a four-way tie atop the league standings.

Milik Yarbrough leads the Billikens in scoring (10.2 ppg) and rebounding (5.1 rpg). He is one of seven freshmen nationally who leads his team in both scoring and rebounding average.

Ash Yacoubou is second on the team in scoring with 10.2 ppg. He is also second on the club in rebounding with 4.8 rpg. Yacoubou leads the Billikens with 24 steals.

Davell Roby is third on the Billikens with 9.3 ppg in A-10 games. For the year, he leads the team with 49 assists.

Mike Crawford scores 6.9 ppg and leads all Billiken guards with a 49.1-percent shooting mark from the floor. Marcus Bartley is tied for third in A-10 in three-point field goal percentage in league games, hitting 44.4 percent (16-of-26) from long range.

Billiken head coach Jim Crews is in his third season at the helm. The back-to-back A-10 Coach of the Year is 65-29 in three seasons at Saint Louis, 419-377 in 27 years overall.

Earlier this season, the Billikens battled then No. 16 VCU to the wire but fell 63-61 on a last-second shot. VCU leads the all-time series 4-3.

The Billikens have dropped six in a row against ranked opponents. The last time SLU defeated a ranked opponent was 3/17/13 vs. #25 VCU in the A-10 Championship title game.

Saint Louis has advanced to the NCAA Tournament the last three years, a school record. Additionally, the Billikens are one of 10 programs in the nation that have advanced to the third round of the NCAA Tournament in each of the last three seasons.

RECAPPING THE RHODE ISLAND GAME

Despite a career-high 21 points from Miles Reynolds, Saint Louis dropped an 81-68 decision at Rhode Island Saturday.

Reynolds was 4-of-5 from the field and 13-of-15 from the line to account for his 21 points. That bettered his previous career best of 19 against North Carolina A&T, a game in which he went 14-of-18 from the line.

Davell Roby scored 15 points, grabbed five boards, dished out four assists and recorded three steals. His 10-for-10 performance from the line is the best perfect shooting mark by a Billiken from the charity stripe since Marque Perry went 11-for-11 against East Carolina during the 2002-03 season.

Milik Yarbrough turned in 14 points on 6-of-9 shooting to give the Billikens three freshmen in double figures. Reggie Agbeko tied his career best with nine points on 4-of-5 shooting.

The Billikens shot 51.4 percent from the field, 33.3 percent from 3-point range and 76.5 percent from the free-throw line. Rhode Island had an 81.8 percent shooting mark from the line in a game that saw the Billikens and Rams combine for 67 free throws.

SLU was hampered by 22 turnovers, which Rhode Island turned in to 32 points. URI’s Jared Terrell scored a game-high 23 points.

SLU vs. VCU | LAST TIME OUT

Treveon Graham’s layup with 0.9 seconds left gave No. 16 VCU a 63-61 Atlantic 10 Conference victory over Saint Louis Jan. 23 at Chaifetz Arena.

Milik Yarbrough scored 13 of his team-high 15 points in the second half for the Billikens and tied for team-high honors with six rebounds, helping SLU earn a 36-29 advantage on the glass.

Austin McBroom tallied 12 points, while Ash Yacoubou posted nine points and six rebounds. Marcus Bartley had eight points and a career- and game-high seven assists, and Davell Roby chipped in eight points.

YARBROUGH LEADS TEAM IN SCORING / REBOUNDING

Freshman forward Milik Yarbrough is one of seven freshmen nationally who leads his team in scoring and rebounding average. The others are:

Stanley Johnson, Arizona

Jahlil Okafor, Duke

Tanner Leissner, New Hampshire

Pascal Siakam, New Mexico State

D’Angelo Russell, Ohio State

Desean Murray, Presbyterian

In A-10 games only, Yarbrough averages 12.2 ppg, which is tied for 21st in the conference.

In all games, Yarbrough is 15th in the A-10 with a .488 (101-207) shooting mark from the field.

Yarbrough’s 11 field goals made at George Washington are tied for the second most by an A-10 player in league play this season.

Yarbrough was named A-10 Rookie of the Week Jan. 12 after averaging 22 ppg in road tilts vs. George Washington and Davidson.

YACOUBOU CONTRIBUTING IN FIRST YEAR WITH BILLIKENS

Junior guard Ash Yacoubou came off the bench for the first time in the URI game.

The Villanova transfer, whom SLU head coach Jim Crews lauded for his work ethic and attitude during his redshirt season a year ago, is second on the Billikens in scoring (9.6 ppg) and rebounding (4.8 rpg).

Yacoubou drained a career-high 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting in the win against Saint Joseph’s.

Yacoubou posted his second double-double of the season with 18 points and 10 boards against Duquesne. His other double-double came against Rockhurst on Dec. 2 - 11 points and 10 rebounds.

ROBY PLAYING MORE AGGRESSIVELY

In Atlantic 10 play, freshman guard Davell Roby is third on the Billikens in scoring with 9.3 ppg.

Roby’s career-high 16 points at Fordham led the squad. It was the first time he led the team in scoring this season.

Against George Washington, Roby connected on a career-high four 3-pointers en route to 14 points. He followed that performance with an 11-point effort at Davidson.

During the nonconference season, Roby averaged just 1.7 “two-point shots” per game. That average is up to 3.9 per game in conference play.

ROBY PERFECT FROM THE STRIPE

Davell Roby hit all 10 of his free throws against Rhode Island.

It is the third-best FT% in school history and the best perfect FT% since Marque Perry was 11-for-11 at East Carolina on March 8, 2003.

Here are the best free throw performances in school history (min. 10 made):

1. Maurice Jeffers, 14-14, vs. Missouri State (12/23/00)

2. Marque Perry, 11-11, at East Carolina (3/8/03)

3. Davell Roby, 10-10, at Rhode Island (2/14/15)

Ryan Grant, 10-10, vs. Chicago State (1/15/92)

Monroe Douglass, 10-10, vs. Evansville (3/4/89)

Roland Gray, 10-10, at Cincinnati (1/11/87)

REYNOLDS TO THE LINE

Miles Reynolds scored a career-high 21 points at Rhode Island thanks in part to a 13-of-15 performance from the FT line (and 4-of-5 from the field).

In Reynolds’ previous career high of 19 against North Carolina A&T, he went 14-of-18 from the charity stripe.

His 18 trips to the line in the North Carolina A&T game are still the most by an A-10 player this season.

Despite missing four games and averaging just 12.3 mpg, Reynolds is third on the Billikens with 77 trips to the line.

CRAWFORD IS EFFICIENT

Sophomore guard Mike Crawford leads all Billiken guards in shooting percentage (.515, 34-66) in A-10 tilts.

He drained a career-high six field goals on eight attempts against Fordham and was 2-of-3 from long range.

Crawford was efficient in collecting a game-high 15 points against UMass, finishing 5-of-6 from the field, 2-of-2 from 3-point range and 3-for-3 from the charity stripe.

For the season, Crawford is fourth on the team in scoring with 7.0 ppg overall and 8.5 ppg in A-10 games.

BARTLEY ON POINT

Freshman point guard Marcus Bartley has started the last 11 games for the Billikens.

Against VCU at Chaifetz Arena, Bartley dished out a team-season-high seven assists. Bartley, who has hit at least one 3-pointer in nine of the last 11 games, is third in the A-10 in 3FG percentage in league games (.444, 16-36).

MCBROOM GOES THE DYNAMITE

SLU’s leading returning scorer from a year ago (7.3 ppg), junior guard Austin McBroom is third on the Billikens with 7.9 ppg. He is third in the A-10 in 3-point field-goal percentage (.447, 38-85) in all games.

McBroom has hit big shots for the Billikens in his career.

Against VCU earlier this year at Chaifetz Arena, it was McBroom’s runner with less than a minute remaining that put the Billikens ahead by two.

McBroom, who scored a career-high 26 points against Bradley, hit the game-winning 3-pointer against the Braves with seven seconds remaining.

It was McBroom’s 3-pointer with less than three minutes remaining against North Carolina A&T that completed a comeback and put the Billikens ahead for good.

Against Southern Illinois in the season opener, McBroom posted 24 points thanks in part to five treys. His biggest shot of the night came with 10 seconds remaining when he buried the go-ahead three.

Last season, McBroom hit a big shot late in a game at Duquesne. With the Billikens trailing by one with less than a minute left, he buried a three from the right side to give SLU the lead for good.

BLOCK PARTY

Senior center John Manning leads the Billikens with 22 blocks.

Manning tied his career high with four blocks in the first game against Rhode Island.

Manning has 70 blocks for his career. He needs six more to crack the Billikens’ top 10 all-time.

CREWS IN THIRD YEAR

Back-to-back A-10 Coach of the Year Jim Crews is in his third season as the Billikens’ head coach.

He is 65-29 in three years at Saint Louis, 419-377 in 27 years overall.

Crews was tabbed the 2012-13 UPS NABC Division I Coach of the Year, Sporting News’ National Coach of the Year and the A-10 Coach of the Year. He was a finalist for the Naismith Coach of the Year award.

He has been a part of 16 NCAA Tournaments as a player, assistant coach and head coach. Crews played on Indiana’s 1976 national championship team and also won a title as an assistant coach in 1981.

SCOUTING VCU

Virginia Commonwealth University (Richmond, Va.) enters Tuesday’s game 19-6 overall and is tied for first in the A-10 with a 9-3 mark.

The Rams are coming off a 79-66 victory at George Washington on Saturday.

Treveon Graham leads VCU with 15.9 ppg and 6.4 rpg. Melvin Johnson is second on the squad with 13.2 ppg.

Briante Weber, who was leading VCU in assists and steals, suffered a season-ending knee injury on Jan. 31.

VCU is second in the A-10 in scoring offense with 73.8 ppg and ninth in scoring defense, allowing 65.5 ppg. The Rams average 10 steals per game, which is first in the conference.

Solid, because I was getting worried because that site never let me down two weeks in a row.

First row not working either. WTF. Screw you cbssports. Have a free streak like nbcsports

Good thing, I had a backup plan to stream tonight if we had too. Granted, I would of had to purchase that channel first.
