Taj79
Surprised we got some votes: http://espn.go.com/mens-college-basketball/rankings One in the AP poll to rank us at 38th; six over in the ESPN Coaches Poll to rank us 35th. Temple, despite a loss and an OT win at home, still safely entrenched at 21/24.
NextYearBill
Imagine if Xavier was 12-4 conf 24-6 overall. They'd be #12 in the country
SaintLouBlue
Imagine if Xavier was 12-4 conf 24-6 overall. They'd be #12 in the country True, but they also would have beaten: Vandy, Purdue, Cincy, and probably some other stronger competition along the way (Gonzaga, Memphis, SLU) to have only lost 6 games. Too bad the teams we beat out of conference decided to nose dive this year.
NextYearBill
Had Xavier played our exact schedule, with exact same results(but beating SLU twice) - they would be #12 in the country
billiken_roy
Imagine if Xavier was 12-4 conf 24-6 overall. They'd be #12 in the country if we had xavier's non conference schedule we might be 18-11. their SOS is 47 ours is 96. while we were playing portland, vermont, alabama state, arkansas state and texas southern they were playing consecutive games vs georgia, vandy, purdue, butler, cincy, oral roberts and long beach state. so had they pulled a 24-6 they would be deserved of a top 10 ranking likely. NextYearBill
the fact they have all those bad losses and are still a bubble team blows my mind
The Wiz
Cupcakes are vote killers. People who vote in polls and to some extent the selection committee look at SOS and big wins.(wins against ranked teams). If we want to garner more attention then we have to get rid of the cupcakes or at least play an A team for every D or F team we play.. NashvilleBilliken
Imagine if Xavier was 12-4 conf 24-6 overall. They'd be #12 in the countryPerception is reality. Schools like Belmont and VCU get a lot of pub because of recent success...Xavier is in the same boat. However, none are really that good. Meanwhile, nobody has a clue that the Billikens had a good season and are primed for a good post season. Hopefully that will change. All it takes is one good year to get the ball rolling. Billboy1
Once MU moved into conference play their schedule got considerably tougher-but their non conference schedule was worse than SLUs. naturally, that gets overlooked by the pollsters

I still think we'd get screwed
The Wiz
Once MU moved into conference play their schedule got considerably tougher-but their non conference schedule was worse than SLUs. naturally, that gets overlooked by the pollsters MU did have a weaker OOC schedule than we did but they could afford that luxury because the B12 was a better conference than the A-10. By the time MU reached the end of the season they had met the 2 criteria for voters...good SOS and big wins.

Agree totally but why were they ranked so high before conference started playing the bsker's dozen of cupcakes-all at home except for Old Dominion. NextYearBill
Same reason Xavier was #8 in the country at one point. Biased voters with agendas. People talk about that fight like it actually mattered. They just arent that good
