Goodwin is right there in the background of the video. You got your most recent alum NBA player, practicing with two of the best in the league right now on your campus. It's not that serious. It's just cool they are playing hoops at the same place us regular alumni played hoops at.

Torch is right - at the very least it was weird to cut the video right before our guy does the drill

Saw on the Tweets page , the team did Karoke .  Seems the team does alot together and has  fun.. Ford seems to really get the concept, IMO.

Team chemistry so vital , a must .. Can that top talent???

Maybe to an extent, but why should we assume other teams won’t have good team chemistry too?

I disagree with those questioning his lack of scoring.  Do you think the Warriors want rookies coming off the bench and taking shots that could be taken by Steph Curry, Klay Thompson or Jordan Poole?  Or would they maybe prefer someone who shows they don't need to "get their points," but instead are willing to do everything to make the stars they already have better?

Goodwin got to the league using his skill set, not the skill set that most people think is necessary.  I think Yuri can do the same thing.   Time will tell.

I understand wanting to compare Yuri to Goodwin, but the similarities pretty much stop with them both going to SLU. Goodwin is 3-4 inches taller with a 6’10” wingspan. Those are major differences in a league filled with absolute freaks. Collins needs to become a 35-37% 3 point shooter to have a real chance. I’m not optimistic, but hope I’m proven wrong.

JGood had a great freshman year playing a decent amount at the point guard spot. I may be mistaken but think that’s when/how he got the triple double.

Correct. He got the triple-double in the midst of an absolute tear that January. He missed a triple-double the game before by 1 point and 1 rebound, and the game after he missed another triple-double by 2 assists. He then put up 15 pts, 10 rebounds, and 2 assists against VCU.

Am I the only one that thinks this is kind of a bad thing for Jordan?

He was going to presumably play for the rebuilding Wizards and now he might not be able to crack the rotation for the Suns super team favored to win the 2024 championship.

I think beal should gift him 5M for coming along with him.

There is a decent chance he becomes the starting PG on a team that will contend for a title

I understand that, and I still ask why did Travis Ford put all his recruiting eggs in the Phil Forte basket to the point that half your recruiting class decommit. Regardless of your point, it’s a red flag.

I don’t really disagree with you but think there is more randomness to the process. Forte was able to land a few guys (finally) and then decided to leave. It is bad timing but not sure how controllable it all is.

You know I talked about this last night, recording. I, and I assume many fans, read it as "current players" to which I responded: well at least we don't have any candidates. But maybe it was transfers and non-signed recruits. Idk, it's a hell of a coincidence. But at the end of the day, why are players being signed more interested in playing for the assistant recruiting them than the head coach of the program they are being recruited to? That is my question.

Assistants do the bulk of recruiting, as you know. It is not uncommon for players to feel more attachment to an assistant.

You actually think people on this site have any influence at all on Fords status? It’s none. Zippo. And you can’t say recruits aren’t effected by the Ford hate on here and then say we can effect change. You guys have made it clear, your going to run your mouths about this every 15 minutes until the only people on here are the haters.

Yes I do, and it’s likely not through posting on this site, so at least we can agree on that.

The haters are out again. What have you guy’s said here that you already haven’t said a dozen times? I feel like Bill Murray when I come here.

People who care - aka “the haters” as you call us - will keep complaining until there is meaningful change. History tells us that change will not involve Ford being SLU’s head coach.

While surely this is in jest I always wonder why Apple is treated like some deity by its users?  And why those users feel the need to ridicule people who don't use the same phone as them.  I just don't see android users, or really any users of other competing apple technology proselytizing how great their product is.

It is strange, especially since Google/Android is frequently ahead of Apple from a pure phone tech perspective

    + Gibson Jimerson.

    Only one basketball is needed.

Have you ever stayed up to watch the Golden State Warriors, especially in their prime, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, Wiggins, Poole, Draymond Green?

This is basketball, correct, as in making baskets, scoring the ball. Try it. You might like it.

Lol. You can’t be serious. Last year, Yuri shot 32% from 3 and Love shot 30% from 3.

Yes, I agree with your idea to get two of the best 3 point shooters ever and let it fly. Using that as a comparison is comical.

I’ve read the Comments, attended 6 SLU games this past season in person (SLU went 4-2), and watched most of the other games on TV. I am aware of the known issues and know what I observed.

If I was in charge of the SLU Men’s BKB program, I would advocate doing what it takes within the current rules to keep Yuri  Collins for his 5th Season and pair him with Caleb Love and Gibson Jimerson, at SLU.

SLU needs to win now with the Big East TV contract up in 2 years.  SLU would have a better chance to win and win big, win as required, with Yuri and Caleb Love with Jimerson in Billiken Blue. Objectively and unquestionably the team would be better, significantly better, than what’s there now.

A backcourt with Yuri and Caleb Love is one of the funniest ideas floated on this board. Do we get to play with 2 basketballs too?

It has always been that way because SLU doesn't have a band program.  SLU used to not have a band play at the games until alumni on their own started bringing instruments to the games and created the "Trumpetiers".  SLU decided they wanted a band at games after finishing second in the NIT tournament in 1989 and student interest in the basketball program was  as high as it has ever been.  Well student interest in playing in the band was so low they not only needed alumni members to fill out the band, but they needed high schoolers from the band director's high school band.

So if you only want a band consisting of students, the sad fact is you are probably going to end up having no band at all.  Maybe, no band at all is the actual goal.  If it is, the right thing to do would be to just admit it.

I appreciate the history lesson on this topic. I’ve always wondered about the composition of the band.

I’ve never watched a Billiken softball game.  Out of the blue I remembered they were in the tournament.  Checked to see how they were doing. Saw they were headed to the bottom of the 7th - on the verge of elimination.  Season over.  Tuned in. …..and I can’t believe I’m saying this but I agree with you - it is a better spectator sport than collegiate baseball, at least in the case of this  bottom of the 7th.

Non-stop.  Single, HBP, walk and smash to right, catchable but dropped.  Runner scores either way for a tie.  Drop means we win.  Wow!  Sorry to miss the next game which starts in about 10 minutes.

Baseball people fail to realize that any sport is better to watch than baseball, including softball.

It’s easy to say that now with hindsight being 20/20, but at the time every single person on this board was more excited about Williams than any of those other guys. Williams was showing up on preseason lists of the ten best shooters in college basketball.  The fact that he flopped majorly seems to be making a lot of people forget that.

Williams was severely overrated. Many people realized it at the time by simply looking at his stats. He had an out-of-body game against Michigan State but otherwise his %s showed he wasn’t a sharpshooter. Regardless, Williams wasn’t recruited to be a guy at the end of the bench even if that’s where he ended up.

Rivera was always a stretch as an A10 level player.  I’m not a fan of these “fill the roster” types Ford picks up late in the recruiting season from out of nowhere. Rivera, Diarra, Cisse… what’s the point??  Surely we could pick up a serviceable role player that at least fits in at the D1 level.  I’d even take a shot in a Rashad Williams type over those guys… Rashad didn’t work out but the potential upside was greater than any of those fillers.

I don’t mind it. Do you expect us to have a roster of 13 guys who get minutes? If not, filing spots 11-13 with guys like Rashad Williams is a recipe for disaster.

A major SLU donor overpaying for Yuri and watching the most disappointing season/worst team chemistry in recent memory probably plays into the situation.

think about what lighting 6 figures on fire, then watch SLU finish 97 in the NET must feel like.

I’d be done with donating to NIL for life if that ever happened to me.

You might be done, but someone worth $1B+ won’t be done
