  1. There is a lot of chatter in Eastern Iowa that Notre Dame is working back channels to hire Fran McCaffrey away from the Hawkeyes. Keep an eye on that seat once Iowa is knocked out of the Big Dance. Fran's wife was an All American for the Lady Irish so this could be seen as a dream job for the family to move to South Bend.

How did non of the journos in the room ask what the hell clicked yesterday.

From a defense standpoint I think having a dedicated strategy much different had everyone focused in on their jobs. Lord knows our base defense has everyone lackadaisical for some strange reason. We all saw it this whole regular season.

Basketball is a game of runs. We've never been able to have a long sustained run because we are always trading baskets. We don't get many turnovers and if we do get a stop, we either turn it over or give up a 3. The math don't work trading baskets unless you get a long chain of 3s for 2s. It was freaking great to finally see that big run yesterday. If we can keep the focus on defense we should see more against VCU.

fordham doesnt have 10,000 fans.   that is new york fans jumping on a bandwagon.

I get what you are saying, but it depends how loose of a definition of "fan" you use. Most people I attended SLU with are casual fans at best. They normally don't pay any attention until we show up in the AP Top 25 or get to the conference championships game. Then they post tons of stuff about the Billikens and selfies decked out in Billiken Gear. I am sure Fordham has scores of thousands of those type of fans still living in Gotham.

well the sec was competing for the national championship as much as other conferences in the late 60's and early 70's and was recognized as one of the top conferences, so even if your racism claims held water, he was playing in one of the most competitive and toughest leagues in america.  and i am pretty sure the sec was not an all white conference as you contend either.

second, maravich's nba career showed he could play with anybody.  if you are trying to say this pretender all time scorer was in the same level of talent as maravich, i guess we will find out soon when he plays in the nba correct?

I don't know what you are talking about. I never made any racism claims. Nor am I saying anything about Detroit Mercy's player.

I am only pointing out the context of the record. He did not play against black players when putting up those numbers. Yes, he played in the NBA on one of the worst teams in the league. Pete was a great scorer but he was not better than Larry Bird or Kareem.

And how can you say the SEC was one of the best conferences? Because they had Kentucky? One team? Only the conference champion got a bid to the NCAA tournament in those days and it was Kentucky and Adolph Rupp every year. It didn't matter if the Pac-10 or the Big-10 had 5 of the top 10 teams only one made the tournament. I don't buy into your SEC was as good a conference or as competitive as the Big10 and Pac10.

geez, there is no comparison.   talk about a hollow "victory"   one guy only has 3 varsity seasons and no three point line the other plays 5 with a 3 point line.   yes, put an asterick on this record!

Yeah, but Pete only played white players in the segregated SEC so there already is an asterisk on that record. Can you imagine how many points Larry Bird would have scored in that scenario?

Notable HC candidates, per the internet:

Chris Mack (53) - Can likely secure a better job. Would hire

Mike Brey (63) - Same boat as Mack? Would hire
Tom Crean (56) - Downward trend. Similar to Ford reboot. Pass
Rick Pitino (70) - Old, sleazeball. Similar to Majerus reboot. Still pass
Darian DeVries (47) - Drake HC
Dusty May (45) - Florida Atlantic HC
Ryan Odom (48) - Utah State HC
Pat Kelsey (47) - College of Charleston HC
Matt Langel (45) - Colgate HC
    Speedy Claxton (44) - Hofstra HC/alum

edit: Chris Beard (50) - Young, sleazeball.

I still like Steve Prohm as a possibility. He's made a Sweet 16 before (granted it was with Fred Hoiberg's recruits). He has been able to recruit NBA talent to both Ames and Murray which is no easy task. He has his shot in the Power 5 and underperformed so he may be comfortable being comfortabley paid at a mid major and not jump at the first Power 5 offer that comes along. I know losing Halliburton to injuries both years he had him led to his demise but I never heard the whole story of his dismissal. Did he lose the team or did injuries and the NBA sap the team of players. If he lost the team I would be apprehensive about hiring him. If not, he's a good candidate. Great offense and Xs and Os guy.

The collective can, in theory, give money to whatever Billiken athlete they want, or not give money to whatever player they want to. I agree they will probably go along with whatever seems in sync with the Athletic Department and Coach agree on, but legally they don’t have to.

I wonder if funds would be considered to lure in a superstar soccer player that is an elite gamechanger to make a run at a another soccer championship. Or maybe that would cause resentment in the clubhouse that one player was making seriously more coin than everyone else.
