  1. I don’t see anyone taking a pass on Dayton. Yes Crutcher is a stud. I’d give him my preseason POY award if I had a vote.
  2. http://mosaicwealth.com/mosaic-today/ Hometown Hero Talks Life After the NBA. Pretty good podcast with Scott Highmark interviewing Larry Hughes. Hughes is a true asset for this city.
  3. It never happened according to recent history books, but UMass may have been pretty good in the early to mid 1990’s.
  4. Transfer window is still open.
  5. This article is dated March, 2020. Lorentsson didn't sign until April. Perhaps he just didn't update.
  6. Would you listen to him if you were on a carefree highway traveling with some rainy day people?
  7. Pritchett has more important plans than one more year of college hoops. https://www.charlotteobserver.com/sports/article243951807.html
  8. I saw your previous post and thought it was good. I gave it a Good Post. I’m just trying to steer this boat back to basketball, getting some hoops conversation going. (No reason you would recall some of my earlier remarks, but I’m playing Goodwin 35+ a game.)
  9. Trying to talk HOOPS!!!! Enough of this other nonsense that these young 'uns want to spout about. We'll score 100 every game. Goodbye bully ball, hello run and gun. Stir up some conversation and let 'er rip.
  10. I'm starting the best 3 point shooters we have, plus Collins to distribute and one rebounder. Perkins, Jimerson and Jacobs start. That puts Goodwin on the bench. French can board and bring the ball up court when Collins is on the bench.
  11. I'm positive if you ask the NCAA Taj they would tell you their rationale. Email them.
  12. And the transfer waivers are rolling in. Just wanted to make Taj feel grumpier than normal.
  13. Blackmon had a shot at the Indiana HS scoring record set by Damon Bailey until he tore his ACL in January 2020. He was hitting about 30 ppg, against 4A opponents, when he was injured. He is about a 38% three point shooter and listed as a Combo Guard. His brother James Blackmon Jr, went to IU. He could score, but had trouble defending. Another brother, Vijay, walked on at IU but jumped over to Lindenwood last season.
  14. Thanks for the link. Very interesting and certainly impressed on me how difficult this pandemic is on collegiate sports.
  15. I assume this is a Statesman rivalry statement.
  16. I like it. Like the Arch and River combined on the crest. Slick.
  17. Two statements kind of sum up Ford’s offensive. Late last season Ford said he doesn’t run plays for Goodwin. He lets Jordan create his own offense. On Coach Stuen’s podcast last night he said Coach Ford wasn’t critical on shot selection. Add those two up and you can see Ford doesn’t have a strict structure on offense.
  18. Interesting. Xavier talking heads put together a podcast with Coach Ford Stuen. https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/ford-stuen-st-louis-assistant-coach/id1509497863?i=1000485654141 He is totally open about being Coach Ford's nephew and how that has helped him. He said Uncle Travis tried to talk him out of coaching when he first spoke with Ford. Coach Ford told him that coaching was 25% basketball, 75% other stuff off the court. Stuen, as Director of Player Development, he couldn't be on the court, so he really didn't "develop any player". He was in charge of logistics, gear, camps, etc. He has been on the phone quite a bit during the quarantine building relationships. He said it was strange going from a support staff to a coach for the same guys. Jordan and Hasahn are in the last wave that remembers him as a Graduate Assistant. The new players know him only as a coach. He is going from Big Brother to Mentor with the team. He had to get on a player for not going to class last season. Said he wanted to handle that, not elevating it to Coach Ford. What is unique at SLU? Stuen: "Because of our players, our identity is being physical. He said we morphed into it, it wasn't planned. They are trying to get more skilled players (mentioned Yuri) on the team now. Toughness is through Coach Ford, that is who he is. No BS on the court. Ford doesn't say much about shot selection, offense kind of takes care of itself. But if you are on D and he sees you aren't playing hard, you are coming out." Coach T. Ford is a believer in a huge scouting report. Diving in at a high detail. Ford changes his team scheme based on personnel. First team had to play half court and move in and out of a zone. We don't deny the ball, but we put a lot of ball pressure. Strong help side, stop the ball first. Rebounding is always on the forefront. First hour in practice is breaking down principles. Talked about recruiting overseas, Ray G. brought in a new way of thinking on recruiting, how Gonzaga did it. Sent him over to the Canary Islands to a tourney. Can't wear college logos, as the scouts want these players to stay home or go pro. Lot more involved than recruiting here. He was looking for a big. Maybe the only college coach at the tourney. He was able to build some relationships that he is still using. He found Lorentsson over there playing against a team from Atlanta. We know he sealed the deal, but said "Now we are still trying to get him here." "If you were playing a dodge ball game, which 5 head basketball coaches would you want on your team?" Answer: Coach Ford is kind of old, so I'm not going with him. Shaka #1, Anthony Grant #2, Eric Musselman #3, Greg Paulus #4, Cuonzo Martin #5
  19. Count me in the opposite camp. I see no reason to mimic Europe. I love the Fire, Galaxy, Timbers, Revs, Rapids, Crew, etc. We play soccer, not football. We don’t say St Louis Cardinals BC. My personal first choice is also St. Louis Stars.
  20. The Carolina Panthers play football. This Charlotte team plays soccer, not football.
  21. Recent history shows the NCAA grants 2/3 of all waiver requests. Through May 24, 2019 the NCAA committee for legislative relief had approved 66% of transfer waiver requests across all sports for the 2018-19 academic year, down from 73% in the four previous years combined, according to the NCAA.
  22. If either Medley-Bacon or Stockard III get a waiver, the Ram picture will be different. (What is going to be interesting is if players will press for a transfer not knowing what the season may develop into....no OOC's? pushed back to spring? will there be a season?)
  23. Opinion: For me a rivalry has to be more or less equal on both sides. One side can say there is a rivalry, but if the majority on the other side doesn't care, then it is one sided and for me not a rivalry. We all agree, on this board, that Dayton is our biggest rival in the A10. I wonder what the fan base in Dayton says. Who do they feel is their primary rival in the A10? I also like it when the rival is within travel distance. Olean NY is not within easy travel distance, so I don't feel any extra passion for that game. Besides alumni who reside in NY, how many Billiken fans attend a St. Bonnie v SLU game in NY. You know VCU holds Richmond as their chief rival. Nothing says you can't have multiple rivals, but I doubt if many VCU fans would list SLU among their top 3. SIUC for sure would fall into my definition of a rivalry. SW MO would too, if we ever resume play. Being the farthest western outpost in the A10 impacts rivalry development. Butler could have grown into an intense rivalry, but that story has been told.
  24. I acknowledge your opinion but totally disagree. Let's keep hands off the bar hopping 20 - 29 year old's and their still legal softball leagues, right, who have three times the increase in incident rates since late June as does the 10 -19 group and oh by the way, can vote. Let's blame the teenagers, who yes are equally irresponsible out in society, but it isn't because of the sports. It's because their parents/guardians haven't set the right example. The episode Page cited with a HS + football player causing 14 others to be quarantined was because the player was out party hopping with his buddies over July 4. The player and several of his buddies all tested positive. Who set up this party and who chaperoned it? The incident was not because of youth sports. That group contracts the virus with or without sports. The number count is the same with or without sports. Page has missed the mark and is looking for a scape goat. We have friends whose teenage son contracted the virus while working at a golf course. There is no talk of shutting down golf courses. (Too much $$.) If we want to protect our teens, let's eliminate them from the work force. I am done b*tching about what I feel was a blatant political move. Let's get back to hoops. And I apologize for a political rant on a basketball forum.
