  1. The old saying about not saying anything if you cannot say anything nice applies here. Not a good loss.
  2. This is a new game and a new opportunity to achieve success. An expected win by 1 pt by ARST means either team can win. With a little luck wee will do so tonight. Go Bills!
  3. Willie Reed had multiple problems, his choice of agent, and his choice of wife being two of them. People make mistakes when they are young, unfortunately for him his mistakes cost him a lot.
  4. That is news to me, thank you very much.
  5. I do not think you are correct here. I will quote an old friend of mine who was very high up in the Federal Government. "We may achieve nothing, but the really important thing is to be here."
  6. Torch you make it sound like NBA pensions have no relation to the maximum salary obtained over a number of years. This relation basing payment upon top income over a number of years is the way pensions are calculated for everybody that qualifies for pensions in any organization. First you have to meet the standards to get into the group getting the pension and fully vest, then comes how much you are going to get once you start getting paid from the pension. This "how much you get" issue depends on how much you make in any specific number of years. For example Social Security (which is not a regular style pension) will pay based upon your three most productive years when you were working and contributing to it. If J Good is already in the NBA pension, he will eventually get some payment from his pension. How much depends upon how long he is in the NBA and how much he makes per year. I may not be correct, but this is the way pensions everywhere work.
  7. Look here people. I am certain that given an even playing field, some coaches will be better than others in the long run. I also believe that Schertz is better, much better in the long run. That said, college basketball is not an even playing field. Conferences are different from one another with the different levels of money and the level of the players they attract and retain. Again there is nothing standard or equal about attracting or retaining players. I know you can think NILs will do the trick, and they indeed may kin some cases, but not in all cases. So, trying to look at the real broad picture, SLU is a good team with a good coach, and with sufficient means to play the NIL game to some degree. There are many schools that can do better than we can, and I would think (and this is my opinion, which you should feel free to disagree with), we are not at the bottom of the pile, and we may indeed be in a reasonably good level and have good prospects for getting much better. Some of our good prospects are due to having Schertz as our coach, and the nice facilities wee have at SLU do not hurt our prospects either. Whatever level we actually wind up getting to in terms of how good we get to be, wherever conference we find ourselves to be next year or a number of years from now will be due to hard work, and, to a lesser degree due to luck and opportunities coming our way. I am old and may not see this happen but I think we are in good shape and will get a lot better with time. Go Bills!
  8. i have been without power since Thursday, got it back early this evening and had to straighten out the garbage accumulation in my computer. I finally got here to see the Bills board and was extremely happy to see we are going to the NIT. I think they deserve it, Go Bills!
  9. Loyola wins, the season is over for SLU. Too bad but losing is part of playing.
  10. I think we have a good chance of beating Loyola Chicago today. Yes, the team had a tough game yesterday and won. Yes, they are not fully recovered after yesterday and Loyola Chicago is well rested. Loyola could win this one also. However, it looks like it took SLU most of the conference play during the season to get into being a good playing team that fights to the end. The game yesterday was proof of this. The issue today is this, are they just too tired to perform like they did yesterday, or not. If they can play as they did yesterday I think we will likely win. Go Bills! The second issue in my mind today is whether or not St. Bona will be able to beat VCU today. This will make it a whole lot easier for SLU to get to the finals, assuming we win today.
  11. SLU's MBB team has a lot of injuries and people who cannot play. But we just do not give up. Regardless of what the opposition does, we fight to the end. We did today and we won. Now we have to beat Loyola tomorrow, and, with divine help, St. Bona has to beat VCU tomorrow to help clearing our path to the finals. Whichever way it goes, we will do our very best to get the job done. Go Bills!
  12. I know this will sound like nonsense to most if not all of you, but let's hypothesize that whoever wins game #4 (either St. Bona or Duquesne) manages to win game #8 against VCU by a miracle of heaven. SLU then would be paired with the winner of game #8 in game #12, the semifinals. This will make a victory in the semifinals much easier for us than beating VCU. And it would make it easier to get to the final game of the A10 tournament, and whatever comes afterwards... The probability for having this kind of outcome is LOW but it is not O. Who knows what will happen. Go Bills!!
  13. Like it or not we will go against Davidson tomorrow. We can win this one. Go Bills!
  14. Crews took over a team shaped by Majerus, but was not able to create a similarly effective team by himself. I think/hope Schertz will be the opposite of Crews.
  15. However, in the not too distant past, someone watching a Cardinals baseball game at the ball park was hit by a spent bullet and required medical care.
  16. I interviewed at John Hopkins Medical School during my senior year of college. This was 1967. At that time, the Johns Hopkins Medical area had tall chain link fences with barbed wire, lots of security and there was a rule that to go to the parking areas after hours you had to get an armed security escort. Not for me, thank you, I went to Georgetown Medical School instead. I am not saying that DC was safe either, but no big city is really safe.
  17. 3 wins means we will beat VCU, or whoever else manages to beat VCU ahead of us, that will get us to the championship game. The key for us is to be able to beat VCU.
  18. Avila is indeed a great player, however he needs a lot of support from a team that is well attuned to play with him. This support was lacking for a good part of the year because of various reasons. Jimerson played better than Avila this year. However, the team has played better, with more cohesion, by the end of the season. I think if we can beat VCU we might just be able to win the A10 tournament. If we lose against VCU we may not go anywhere after the A10 tournament. And, if we beat VCU but lose the championship game we might, just might, go at large to the Dance or go to NIT. This is just my opinion, it is not based upon facts or stats, just on the way I think it will go.
  19. The truth is that Duquesne made an extraordinary effort to win this game and despite all we kept on going and wound up winning it by 2 pts kin OT. Well done Bills! Lets keep the never give up attitude in the A10 tournament. All the best to our team!
  20. This one was a tight game and Duquesne was doing a good job against SLU. We did not play our best game ever, at times it was not pretty, BUT we never gave up and kept on going until we won the game in overtime. Whatever it was that worked it worked at the end of the game. A win by 2 points. Well done Bills! Now onto the A10 tournament in DC
  21. Hate to say this but Duquesne is not playing like they have the worst offense in A10, at least not in the first half of the game. Go Bills and beat them!
  22. This is a tight game so far, judging by the first half either team can win this game. I see no clear advantage on either side. I hope we win. Go Bills!
  23. Let's say it is not likely we will get a double bye this season. We still can win the A10 tournament although this will not be easy to do. It is not over until it is over. Go Bills!
  24. My understanding is that Pestello will not leave until June. If I am not wrong about his retirement date, we currently have no president capable to speak for SLU to A10 until the next president takes over. This places us at a disadvantage in transferring our School's desires to the A10 board. If Pestello is still president of SLU he cannot speak for SLU or bind his successor to his opinion in this matter. I would not want May's opinion presenting SLU's desires to the A10 in this matter.
  25. I am not going to comment on the refs. The second half was not good for us. We lost the game, too bad but that is the way it is. Now onto the next game.
