  1. No college president had as much power and control over a university as Dennis Spellman when he was at the helm of Lindenwood. It may be worth mentioning that he eliminated tenure at Lindenwood. SLU was only preparing for measures that would weaken tenure.
  2. Its way too early to get philosophical about the rankings. Relax! Incidentally, Creighton lost another one tonight on the road against Tulsa. The Hurricanes move to 6-3 with the 2-0 win. The shutout goes to none other than Mark Pais who is having a good senior campaign. In case anyone cares, Pais has been in goal most of the season including in the win over No. 4 New Mexico.
  3. No, but it could easily happen in the postseason.
  4. In Division I, the committee focuses on the RPI. I think we will have a much better idea regarding post-season opportunities after the Ohio road trip to play Xavier and Dayton. VCU and Charlotte should also have low RPI rankings when they are released. Things are looking good for an at-large bid.
  5. Thanks for the report. Absolutely perfect night at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
  6. The rankings are based largely on institutional data covering things like admission denials, alumni donations and such. There is also a survey that administrators fill out to rank other institutions, but even with this, the law school debacle probably had little effect. Maybe SLU should report fake data like Emory.
  7. It looks like Lee played limited minutes in the overtime loss at Denver.
  8. Rutgers lost to SIU-Edwardsville and No. 2 Creighton over the weekend. We will see where the team is at the end of the season. The same is true for SLU. But the Bills are so much better than they were two seasons ago and are worth watching again. Join us!
  9. Good win, but as I said on Sunday, probably not a signature win for the Billikens. The Louisville team that came to play tonight is probably not a Top 25 team. But it is further proof that McGinty has this program headed in the right direction. The lineup was similar to Saturday with the addition of Brangman. Kristo was in for the first half and was part of some of the best offensive sequences we have seen in a few years. Sweetin played for much of the game and looks in full form. Adnan would come on and get the goal. Maglasang and Hidalgo played as well. The head official was obsessed with the possibility that the Bills were wasting time and even issued yellow cards to Roeckle and Bryce over the matter, but at that point I think they were just f___ing with the official.
  10. Besides the gimmicky player reversal short corner and one direct kick from Sweetin, the team did not have a particularly good night on set plays. Louisville should be fun, though looking at their record, they have a 0-3 loss to Maryland and a 3-1 win over a mediocre Belmont from the OVC. The game on Tuesday may be closer to a must win than potential signature victory.
  11. A few UMKC fans were giving him a hard time. He was mostly quiet through it, but then got his first goal of the season and then literally asked the fans how they liked his goal.
  12. SLU defeated UMKC (0-3-0) in the pouring rain. Maglasang, Graydon and Kristo scored in the 3-1 win. I have never seen so many short corners in a game before. The box score indicates that SLU had 19 corners including 12 in the first half. A particularly clever short corner left UMKC unprepared and gave Maglasang the look he needed from Sweetin. McGinty continues to experiment with the line-up though the back line of Heskamp, David, Manning and Roeckle seems set. Kristo and later Adnan and Kalil Karl were second half subs for Hidalgo, Sweetin and Maglasang. Respect to Graydon who answered a few a__hole fans from Kansas City. The answer came on the field with a quality off-balance strike after settling a pass from Adnan. Graydon later asked the fans how they liked his goal while he prepped for a corner.
  13. I was told that Fr. Garanzini was the one who coined the infamous joke: -What is the difference between God and Biondi? -God knows he's not Biondi
  14. Thanks for the clarification. SLU is independent while Fr. Biondi is tied to the Jesuits. My point: the lay board hires and fires the president, not the Jesuits.
  15. Not this. SLU is entirely independent. They do not report to the Missouri Jesuits or the national organization. Not for executive leadership. Fr. Biondi is not the only long term president. Boston College, Canisius and others have had long standing Jesuit presidents. This is true, in part, because the institutions have struggled to find Jesuit priests to take the jobs. That is why institutions such as Georgetown no longer have a Jesuit at the helm. Even Fr. Garanzini at Loyola University Chicago has been there for ten years. He moved to Loyola after serving as Dean of the school of education at SLU. He did not like Biondi. For reference: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Association_of_Jesuit_Colleges_and_Universities
  16. SLU is entirely independent from the local Diocese and the Vatican. No rotations.
  17. Boards essentially report to the man or woman they supervise. Things have to get bad (like loss of accreditation bad) before the average board will move to make a change. Turnover in the high level administration has been an issue for a long time though maybe not as public. The Board was surprisingly quiet when the financial aid professional judgement went public a few years ago. The only thing that is surprising is the quality of the undergraduate experience, considering low faculty and staff morale.
  18. I meant to add: I think Donte showed real potential too.
  19. Thanks for the report. I decided not to stick around for the game yesterday with the threat of severe weather looming. The game was cancelled due to lightning before the half. As for the men, I agree wholeheartedly with the earlier comment about the freshmen Heskamp and David.
  20. One of the more enjoyable games of the last few years. I hope you all do not mind me mentioning here that the women are 2-1-1 (with the exhibition). The loss was to Ole Miss on the road. After a terrible season last year, fans can see the new coach on display againt a ranked Marquette after the men play Drake tomorrow.
  21. I understand and please do not take offense to this because obviously you are a smart guy but not a lot of schools come close to Columbia in terms of percentage of internationals. I think only USC has a higher percentage. SLU, on the other hand, is close to average for Doctoral Extensive institutions.
  22. Thanks for the post. I lost my old staff ID so I guess I have to start paying for games for a change. It sounds like it may be well worth it this season.
  23. US medical schools admit very few international students, but overall, SLU has 900-1,000 international students. The premise of the Center for Global Citizenship is to serve both international students who study here but also domestic students who study overseas.
  24. I am a little confused. The Center for Global Citizenship already exists in Des Peres Hall and they have quite a lot of capacity. What is going on with West Pine? The link does not work. FWIW: international studies programs do not matter in any of the major college ranking systems.
