Yikes, imagining a weirder looking member of the Bird family.
-
You are presuming they didn’t start looking until Ford was gone. They’ve been looking since at least January. Schertz was not the only one considered, even if he ends up being the only one offered.
-
Yeah I had to chuckle when, I think the same poster, suggested Schertz has brought their program so far already that moving to SLU would be a step down for him at this point.
-
He's also been fired from every job he ever had, usually after failing and embarrassing himself and his employer in some way. He's currently listened to by dozens of people on the town's third choose for sports talk.
-
SLU was a lower seed (as much as the WNIT has seeding) than either Min or Troy. I assume it is a road game unless perhaps our opponent's facility isn't available.
-
The latest a SLU basketball team has been still playing?
-
My autocorrect will make it official when he does.

Gregg Doyel acknowledges in this column it is an open secret that Schwartz may bring 4 starters with him. Julian Larry though is expected to stay.

After that performance, we'd all be perfect additions.

O.T. Conference Shuffle ( OU and Texas inquire about joining SEC)
ARon replied to BLIKNS's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
If the commish has a move to make, it would be to pounce on any/all basketball only schools that are made second-class citizens in the Big East the moment any ACC refugees join the conference. -
In this era the AD needs to have the next coach in mind at all times. The good years, the bad years, always. The AD (and boosters) should have 3-4 names whose agents they are prepared to call with very little notice. Sustainable success will involve being able to have your coach poached and immediately turn around and make another good hire..

ISU MBMs are saying Schertz was briefly following some guy named Chaifetz on Twitter before hiding it this weekend.

End of a (mediocre) era. Travis Ford is out.
ARon replied to ARon's topic in Billikens.com Main Board
Given the timing of how it came out Martin (and undoubtedly Frank and others) have had the news for weeks and agreed to hold the scoop until the Bills season officially ended. -
After the last few years I don’t blame him for not be too enthusiastic about starting over somewhere. But time might heal that up and help him get that fire back.

Travis will still probably coach the team at the A10 tourney. It will be announced that he "not returning" not that he is fired with immediate effect.
-
Keep in mind two of the best years of RM's teams are in the record books as JC's first two seasons.
-
Hopefully it has more to do with the Post Dispatch's budget than SLU's plans.
-
Maybe I'm remembering it wrong but I thought it had been communicated that Crews wouldn't be back before they even played the tournament games. Perhaps it was just that it had communicated internally to the team.
-
I'll be concerned if it is not announced that Ford won't be back before Tuesday's game.

Lisch is/was a better athlete than he gets credit for. And let's be honest that's really just a matter of the way US sports fans view athleticism through their preconceived notions re: skin tone. That being said, whether or not one group of guys is more athletic is not the point. It is the difference between recruiting athletes and recruiting basketball players. Ford has throughout his time at SLU recruited athletes first and foremost. Now that can work if you and your staff can coach guys up, especially if you make a point of recruiting athletes that have that desire to learn and grow. But Ford and his staff have shown they are not that group. Guys gets a bit better under them, unlike Crews where players would finish a season the exact same as they started, but not significantly so. And without calling anyone out, it's clear that some of the athletes they recruited had no desire to be coached or improve themselves. At the risk of preparing to fight the last war....at this point SLU is better off hiring someone that can coach up a bunch of 2*s they've recruited/NILed versus someone who can recruit the big names. With the NIL era, the game is moving in the exact opposite direction of Ford's strengths.
